Use inspiron 15 7000 (7537) with no battery ??

Hi,

I have a new Inspiron 15 7000 Series (7537) and I see in the owner's manual that the battery can be removed.

I normally use the laptop at home and don't need the battery, so I was wondering, would it be possible to remove the battery and use the laptop without it on a daily basis??

Thanks,

Internet connectivity lost after reinstall of Win7 Home Premium

Let me set the problem. My Dell XPS L502 is running Win 7 Home Premium. It has an Intel i7 processor and 8 gb ram along with a 750 gb hard drive. This machine started causing problems with some programs and the programs could not be installed. I had seen this problem a couple years ago and solved it by reinstalling Win7. Therefore, I tried the same thing this time only to find that after reinstalling Win7, many of the drivers were gone. Including drivers for my wireless card and USB ports. I still have the use of the DVD drive and Win7 runs but that doesn't do much good. I do have "synaptics" control but I do not like the "touch pad" so I very much prefer an external mouse. I have tried several things which do not work. Most recently, I tried to force the Recovery Partition to open up its secrets using a post at: http:://smsoftdev-solutions.blogspot.com/2009/03/how-to-restore-dell-factory-image-when-PC -restore-does-not-work This reference seemed to offer possible solutions but none that I tried would work. I have also read that once a "Reinstall Disk" has been used, the Recovery Partition becomes "unavailable" which is precisely what the above reference talks about. So how do I manage to install the appropriate drive to give me "internet connectivity" so I can go to Dell and down load the up-to-date drivers for my system. Thank you very much for all the assistance that you will provide to solve this issue.

help. I need to talk to Canadian In-Warranty Technical Support, or whoever I need to, in order to obtain original windows install discs

I called the number in the box, that says call before returning this computer to the retail store.  The technician there listened to my issues and said I had to talk to software support, not hardware and transferred me.   That technician listened again then said he that I had to call Canadian support at 1 877 337 0342.   Thats the satelite company DISH Network.

So I try the 1 866 210 5778 again.  ( the number on the box ).   This time I tried a different series of buttons and was told to goto Dell.com/chat.

I go there and get redirected to http://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/19/campaigns/us_chat

obviously US CHAT.  So I try going through some trouble shooting options on the website inputting the service tag number and finally I find a place where I can request the windows install discs since I am in warranty (bought this machine two days ago by the way).

I enter the tag numbers and it says, sorry wrong country.  Click here.  I click and get the US/Canada site.  I enter the tag again and it says sorry, this is a retail sale.  Please register.  I register all my personal information and it says thanks.  No indication whether or not the discs are on the way????

So I go back and reenter the tag on the request original install disc page and it tells me to register again.  The whole time I am actually logged into the dell website.  My name appears in the top right hand corner.

Someone please call me.  Service tag FBY3QZ1.

I just want to install windows 8 onto the 240GB SDD drive that I replaced the factory 1tb HDD that came with the Inspiron 15R.

If not, I'm returning this computer tomorow and going back to ASUS, because it was a seamless upgrade on that laptop...

Also, why can't I just download the windows 8 install iso from dell's website, wouldn't this save us all money and frustration?

XPS 12 touchpad issues

I recently bought a new XPS 12 laptop and upgraded to Windows 8.1. Upon the upgrade i noticed that the touchpad works inconsistently after that. I have been able to get it to work by rotating the screen and then rotating it back, the touch pad then re-engages. The touchpad stays engaged as long as I don't go to tablet mode, but when I do and then go back to laptop mode the touchpad doesn't work. It does not go gestures, double taps, or move at a decent pace. It also doesn't show up in my notifications on the desktop. Any ideas?

Inspiron 13z 5323 has no WWAN wires and no SIM slot?

I had seen in the 13z Manual that the laptop supports full size wwan minicard. I bought myself a used Dell Wireless 5560 Broadband mini-card and am trying to install it. The issue is that as I'm following the installation instructions in my manual it describes two wires I need to plug onto the wwan card but they seem to be missing. I can clearly see wires connected to the wlan + bluetooth half mini card, but no remaining wires in view. Also I remember on my old XPS 1530 that the sim card slot was behind the battery, but I just can't find any indication of it on my 13z.

any help would be appreciated.

cheers

Extra hdd in inspiron 17r model 5737 dvd caddy issue

I have recently bought a inspiron 17 R ( model 5737 ). And i replaced the hdd with a solid state disk (240 Gb). I now want to replace the dvd drive with the original 1 Tb sata disk in a caddy. the ssd is working fine, but the 1tbyte disk in the caddy does not show in windows ( i'm booting from the ssd). The 1 tbyte disk in the caddy is showing in the BIOS, so the hardware seems fine.

can anyone tell me how to get this working? The bios is up to date and when i put the 1 tb disk back in the main slot it works just fine.

Thanks,

erwin

Help needed new HDD install dell 1545

Hi, i have been having a nightmare trying to install a new hdd on my inspiron 1545
so as you all know no OS disc comes with the computers...

What i have done so far...
I had backed up my important files and photos etc when i got a warning my hard drive was about to fail.
I restored it back to factory settings of the partition to try to get the operating system... that has worked... but its just a 300mb or so file... when i start that on my new hdd it needs drivers etc...

Have read on these forums and clicked links but i cannot find the correct drivers to install to get the operating system up and running.

Can somebody help me... there must be a download somewhere that i can just put it on a CD and install on my computer and all done right?

Why the hell is this all so difficult?

Thanks in advance!

Dell XPS L701X, Blue Screen of Death

$

Hi there,

I have a laptop (Dell XPS L701X) that arrived at my home in January of 2011. Its never given me any troubles except for very random Blue Screen of Death occurrences that started about three months ago. The exact error message that is displayed on the BSOD is:

"A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval."

There seems to be no correlation between what I'm doing and when the BSOD will appear. I do play an online game called EverQuest quite often, so most of my crashes are when I try to zone into another map/area of the game. However, like I said, that's just because of how frequently I play the game and it's by no means the only time when I crash. I've received the BSOD plenty of other times when the game wasn't even opened and I was simply browsing random internet websites (gaming forums, eBay, etc.). It will just freeze up entirely, display the blue screen, force me to hard boot and it will then start up as if nothing ever happened.

This went on for approximately the past three months up to and including about three weeks ago. In this instance, the BSOD (same error message as always) displayed and prevented me from starting up Windows after I hard booted. Instead of running Windows, it ran the Windows Startup Repair Utility and told me that there was an error that was unable to be fixed and that I should contact my system administrator. Upon seeing this I took it to a computer repair shop which told me I had 48KB of "bad sector" on the hard drive and that it needed to be replaced. This was the only issue they could see and told me that it was likely the main problem.

A new hard drive later (which I told them not to copy over an image of my old hard drive just in case the problem was software related) and I found myself crashing to the same BSOD literally ten minutes after getting the laptop home from the shop. Quite frustrated, I started doing Google searches like crazy. Every single result told me to:

  1. Remove any additional RAM/memory that wasn't factory-installed
  2. Stop overclocking the processor
  3. Stop dual-booting
  4. Run CPU stress tests to determine if it's a processor hardware error
  5. Run RAM/memory stress tests to determine if it's a memory error

... so I did. Suggestions one, two and three do not apply to me as I do not have any additional RAM/memory installed and I do not overclock or dual boot. Stress tests performed on the CPU and the memory (from two separate programs on each piece of hardware) told me that everything was running normal and that there were no suspected issues. Sure enough, however, thirty minutes after searching for more suggestions, I locked up and blue screened. Ugh.

I have all of the crash reports and DMP files if anyone would be interested in seeing those. However, they don't seem to help much because I'm not particularly well versed with hardware and Google searches don't really bring back information that's different from what I've read before. Since I don't seem to be able to upload attachments, feel free to just leave your e-mail and I can forward them to you.

My last ditch effort will be to obtain a new PSU for the laptop. Like I said before, however, I'm not particularly well versed with hardware so it's my understanding that a PSU for a laptop is simply an external AC adapter cable/plug feeding from the wall outlet to the laptop. If for some reason this has become defective and it's not  producing proper voltage, I'm guessing that could cause errors that lead to hardware failure and blue screens and all of that. Please do correct me if I'm wrong or if you have any other ideas as to what would be causing this.

Thanks a lot in advance and I appreciate the time and support!
