the wireless connection in my laptop is not working since I had to format my hard drive.

plugged in, not charging

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1525 in April 2008.

About 1 month ago I noticed that my computer would automaticaly shut down when the power cord was removed, I hovered over the battery icon in the bottom right corner and it said 0% available plugged in, not charging.

I googled the phrase plugged in, not charging and realised lots of people were having the same problem.

I have tried

  • restarting and shutting down my computer (with and without battery and with and without power cord)
  • removing and replacing my battery (while laptop is on and off)
  • a replacement battery from Dell
  • my sister's battery and power cord (she also has a 1525)in my laptop and get the message plugged in, not charging. My battery in her laptop will charge but my power cord in her laptop says plugged in, not charging
  • removing the battery with the laptop on then restarting the laptop and replacing the battery
  • uninstalling and reinstalling the Power Management Software
  • switching between power plans
  • flashing with current bios

All 3 batteries (hers, my original and my replacement) have adequate charge (50% or higher)

I run with Windows Vista Home edition

Can anyone help me or suggest anything else?

I have been to the local Dell distributer and they tell me to call Dell.  I have tried calling Dell but I keep getting put on hold for 30+ minutes.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Inspiron N5010 enter system password

My dad bought this for me overseas and I'm not from the US so I can't actually call support. My laptop haven't been used for a while because I know it's not functioning properly and when I turned it on again, it won't boot. There's just the Dell logo with press f2 and f12 (but they won't work too) and then the screen goes black with "enter system password" and I have no idea what it is. I remember getting this laptop fixed but the technicians can't get through this system password thing. How am I going to get the password? And I get through this, will I be able to restore it to factory settings? I'm trying to format my hard drive. Thanks

Hi, My laptop was getting very slow in last few days. But when i restart it 2 or 3 times it works properly. So i make a plan to get a backup of my files on external hard drive and refresh the windows. Today i connect hard drive and start copying the files. But within 3 minutes my laptop suddenly turn off. I try to turn it on but no light blinking no sound it seems dead. Then i attach my AC adopter and i see the light on adopter also turns off after i plugin to laptop. I again plug it out and first give power to AC Adopter, the light turns green on adopter. Then i plugin it in laptop and light of adopter again turn off.

In short it turns on if i plug it out from laptop and it turns off after plugin to laptop. Please help how to fix it.

Bios Wifi power management

E7440 & E7240 have this bios option:

Power Management->Wireless Radio control->Control WLAN Radio

Enabling this option powers the wifi card on/off when a wired connection is not present / present.

But, it also powers off the wifi card when the laptop lid is closed.  This causes issues in our environment.

Given that the behavior is not documented, it seems like a bug.  It'd sure help us out if the feature worked as advertised.  Could this be addressed in a future bios release?

Dell XPS 15 Keyboard Letters Work Intermittently

I have a Dell XPS 15 L502X that is about 2.5 years old. As of late, my keyboard has been having problems with certain letters on the left side (a, s, 1, 2, q...). What would be causing this problem? My external keyboard works perfectly, and I've tried the whole reboot with nothing plugged in. Also, there's no consistency. Sometimes, the letters don't work at all, sometimes they fire doubles/triples. Strangely I've had very few issues writing this post, but there are times when it's really bad. Any ideas what would be causing this? My thought is replace the keyboard, but I don't want to throw away money trying things. Thanks.

Trouble with Inspiron 9300 laptop

Hi,

I am having a problem with my dell inspiron 9300 laptop. The fan is constantly running on high from the moment I turn the computer on. The computer seems sluggish and slow and the CPU usage is all over the place. The system idle process is taking up 92 percent right now. It just started doing this the other morning when I cut it on. I have tried all the normal things such as a boot time virus scan, spyware scan, and scanning the registry for problems. I also tried blowing the fans and vents out with canned air, but there was no dust buildup. I tried to use the dell diagnostic utility on computer bootup, but when I click on "test fan" it shuts the computer off. The cpu temp stays at a constant 185 degrees Fahrenheitaccording to monitoring program. Can any help me figure out what this can be?

Thanks

I have a dell inspiron n5110. The usb port on the left side of my machine is physically damaged, the little part in the port that slides into the usb is pushed in. I am wondering if there is a way to fix it such as a replacement port or something else.

Refurbished laptop not refurbished to factory state - Intel Anti Theft - platform attack detected Studio 1558

I bought my Studio 1558 from Dell Outlet. It has been running great for a few years until recently when it started overheating. I opened it up and cleaned out the fan to aid in cooling, when I put it all back together the Intel Anti Theft kicked in and asks for the password to start up the system.

Having never installed the anti theft software I don't know what the password it so.  I called Dell, and the service representative looked into it and told me that it was installed by the original buyer who returned the computer to Dell and it would appear that Dell did not remove it when they refurbished and re-certified the system.  However to try to help me get back into my legitimately purchased computer from them I would have to pay to have the warranty extended or pay for a single incident support.  After probing further and trying to make my case that this is clearly an oversight on Dell's part they (at no charge) redirected me to Absolute (the company that makes the Intel Anti Theft software) to get it unlocked.  Absolute verified that it was installed on my system by the previous owner before my purchase date however they are unable to unlock my system unless the previous owner contacts them.  They said they would try to reach out to the previous owner but I haven't heard anything from them yet. Any advice on how to get back into my own system would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone else had problems with refurbished systems not actually being restored to the factory state?

New replacement battery and computer won't run off of it.

Hey guys,

I have a inspiron 1545 that I am working on.  My issue is pretty straight forward.  I bought a replacement battery for it and it shows fully charged in the battery icon in the task tray.  I go into bios and all seems to be good there.  So the computer is saying the battery is good.  When I disconnect the AC plug to run it off the battery it shuts off as if there is no battery installed, kind of like just pulling the plug on your desktop and there is no power going to it.  I tried going into the device manager and deleting the microsoft acpi control and rebooting with the new battery in and still nothing.

Any Ideas??

Thanks in advance,

Jon

XPS 12 Won't Power On

So I got my new Dell XPS 12 Convertible, but it will not power on.  Light on power switch slowly flashes on and off, keyboard lights slowly flash on and off.

I've tried holding the power switch off for 20 seconds.

Battery status indicates full charge.

I have it plugged in.  Light on AC unit is green.

What else can I try?

XPS 15Z L511Z Screen

Started out as a dark spot in the top right corner of the screen. Now whenever I touch the screen or move the laptop the screen almost goes black (screen looks black but when looking at it at an angle it is just really really dim). I have been looking all over the internet for a solution but have yet to find one. Seems like a lot of people are having the same problem. The weird thing is when I connect the laptop to an external monitor the display works and the laptop screen becomes bright again, besides the dull top right corner. LCD display part # is KW90D. Have done a lot of research and I'm ready to buy a new screen but would like some assurance before I buy. Thanks

Is this an SDD issue?

After having issues with slow startup and programs starting to freeze, I did a factory reset.  Unfortunately, even after performing the reset startup is still very slow.  In addition, it has been updating  windows, which is to be expected, but I receive an error message when I try to create a recovery point.

I ran a PC Diagnostics and it gave me the following message -

Critical Hardware Maintenance
Next steps: The diagnostics results indicate that a part replacement is required for your system.Dell’s record indicate Your limited hardware warranty and/or service contract(s) associated with this system are expired. Call 1-800-822-6031 for low-cost, out of warranty phone support to resolve hardware and software issues.

Replace Hard Drive

This is quite disturbing as I have an SDD not HDD and would it expect it to me more stable.
I'm running the ePSA Pre-boot assessment now. The first test said that the hard drive was fine, every thing came back good, which is a complete contradiction to the PC diagnostic.
It has now been in Thorough Test Mode for the past 2 hours and is now at 99%.
What else should I try?  I don't want to spend money on another SDD if that's not the issue.  Any ideas.

Laptop shuts off when moved

Hi,

I have purchased the Dell Inspiron M5110 a year back. The laptop shuts off when moved or even if the screen is adjusted. I checked all the forums for this issue and tried to diagnose. As suggested in one of the forums when I removed the battery and connected the laptop to the charger the laptop remains on and the issue does not occur.

Please let me know how this issue can be resolved and approximately how much it will charge?

Thank you.

Wi-Fi connection problem Dell XPS 14" intel core i5

$

I have a XPS 14" with Core i5, 4GB RAM with Windows 8 preloaded

I am not able to connect to the Wi-Fi in my home. The laptop is just a few days old so I have not tested Wi-Fi connectivity in other places like Starbucks, etc.

I am 100% sure that my wireless (Cisco Linksys) is working normally since I have other devices and three other family members (kids and my wife) that connect no problem. We are not doing anything fancy with security or firewalls.

I can connect to my home Internet by using the ethernet cable (that is how I'm connected at the moment).

Ironically, I was able to connect to Wi-Fi for a short period of time (about 1-2 hours) a couple times only to see the Signal/connection just stop working. I am pretty good with computers and work professionally in software sales.

I have downloaded many updates from both Dell and Microsoft including product drivers. Ive run so many updates that I couldn't tell you all of them but (as is common with Windows products) I have spent many cycles (update / restart) updating hardware drivers, etc.

Please let me know how to troubleshoot this as all of the standard Windows & Dell help suggestions are not making a difference. (i.e. forget the network, disable and re-enable, unistall/reinstall driver, etc).

Thanks
