Hi,

I was performing Factory Reset but got stuck. Dell AssistSupport cannot authenticate my Microsoft account. Any ideas what it can be? I cannot go back now so I need to move forward from here on.

Thanks

Seb

XPS 13 Intel AMT

Hi,

I want to turn off anything related to remote control of my XPS 13.

Ctrl+P during startup does not help me enter any Intel Active Management Technology settings and I have also found none in the Bios settings.

I am wondering if Intel AMT is enabled in XPS 13 models and if it can be disabled.

Thanks very much in advance!

Can't Decide whether I have 2.5" mSATA or M.2 SATA SSD

I recently bought Dell Precision 5510. Though I ordered for a PCIe NVMe SSD 256 GB, I was provided with SK Hynix SC300 SATA 256 GB(as per Device Manager and Dell Support Assistant). Firstly, how can a PCIe based M.2 slot support SATA? Secondly, the Dell Support Assistant clearly tells that I have a 84Whr Battery which means I can't have a 2.5" mSATA 256 GB. So, I should have SK Hynix SC300 M.2 SATA 256 GB. But when I try to update the driver to M.2 type, it doesn't. I can't open the laptop due to warranty issues. So, is there a way I can find out which kind of SATA SSD do I have?

Also, in BIOS System Setup's SATA Operation Menu, I have  RAID ON rather than AHCI. Does it have a effect on not displaying and reading the SSD as M.2? I didn't try to change it AHCI, due to concerns of breakdown of SSD.

XPS 13 Intel AMT

Hi,

I have been wondering how I could configure Intel AMT settings on a XPS 13 device.

Ctrl+P on boot does not work and the Bios Settings do not expose a relevant setting.

Is there anything enabled by default that would allow remote administration of my machine?

Thanks very much in advance!

(For the editors that approve the post: An identical question has been asked by colleague (Esokrates) today, but something with his registration process did not work (typo in email) so he locked himself out of his account, hence for us to know I ask basically the same question.).

BIOS A15 update for Latitude E7450 won't flash

When I run the file in Windows, nothing happens for about 15 min.  Then the various screens come up asking me if I really want to flash, etc.  When I then try to shut down, the system hangs at logging the user out.

A hard restart then works fine, but the BIOS isn't flashed.  Any thoughts???

Is this battery for my laptop still safe to use?

I purchased a new battery for my laptop (the primary chargeable lithium ion one) about a year ago and I haven't used it yet. It's never been in a computer or charged yet and I was wondering if i is still okay to use?

Since it has been a year will the voltage of the battery still be at a safe level? Will it still have a big enough charge capacity?

Will using it cause any harm to my computer? If that type of battery is stored not in use and never been in use for a year or a little more can any harm be done to it?

Do you think the "electronic fuse" on the battery has opened? I read this can happen on unused batteries that are stored for prolonged periods of never being charged.

Pointer jumps when I lift my finger off touchpad (XPS 15 9560)

Hi everyone,

As the title says really. I just want to see if others are having similar problems before I bring this up with Dell directly.

Some pertinent info: This is my second 'XPS 15 9560' and both laptops have had the exact same problem. All drivers are up to date, windows is up to date so I'm using the latest precision drivers from microsoft. I have tried disabling double tap dragging and enhanced precision to no avail.

I'll be happily moving my pointer around the screen and as I lift my finger to click on something the pointer will jump about 5 - 10mm in a random direction, often causing me to click on the wrong thing.

The fact it's happened on both laptops tells me others must be having this problem too. I can't seem to find anything specific on the issue though.

It's driving me nuts and would like to know if anyone who has had this problem has managed to cure it? I've heard installing synaptics drivers can help with some touchpad issues but then you lose touchpad functionality so seems pointless to me, also this fix was for the 9550, last years model so not sure how relevant it is, although my understanding is it's the same touchpad.

Hopefully someone can help, thanks

Mark

Don't buy alienware

Bought the 15r2, it worked well for a few months. Then the fans started revving. I learned that they give you a power supply unit that cant supply the power needed to actually run all the fans proper and keep the system cool. My motherboard fries, GPU burns out. I am stuck paying for a $1700 laptop that doesn't work. Cause the warranty only goes for a year unless you cough up another $700. I wont do that, because a computer that can burnout is an issue and I would still be replacing a laptop every year cause the product ***. Clearly they don't know how to build proper system, or they do and are just trying to gouge you for money. Dell and Alienware are a bad company, and their products are complete garbage. If you buy Alienware or Dell, you will be disappointed. Wish you could give lower than a one star. All these four and five stars are just what they want you to see, look at any other site other than dell and watch the stars drop. Dell just tells me, in a nut shell, "too bad so sad, there is nothing we can do about the garbage product we sold you". The Alienware system didn't even last hardly a year, and I only used it for about three or four hours a day or less. Now I am stuck paying for the last 600 on a broken piece of equipment, since I tried the payment plan. Should have just burned my $1700 to ignite my BBQ, I would felt better at least. Thanks Dell for taking my money, I guess it is my fault for trusting you.

XPS 9560 new BIOS causes fans to go full speed.

Not sure how best to describe this, also confirmed by others who have updated to BIOS 1.1.3

since installing the BIOS update the fans will rev to full at various times, rebooting is one time, they are forced to 100% with no ramp up, this causes a high pitched noise as the fans cannot cope with being revved up so fast.

When the fans kick in they will not kick in at 2500rpm (minimum), they will ramp up about 1000rpm faster then settle down.

This has never happened in the time I have owned a 9550 and 9560 until this new BIOS update.

I have reset the BIOS to defaults a few times, reflashed the update and it still does it.

Changing Dell power command doesn't help either.

I have read that this issue is already well known and I have tried to implement the solution suggested by Abraham in  but withouth any success. The cursor keeps jumping completely randomly when I am writing (not even using it) or using the mouse. The output of xinput is

⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ ELAN Touchscreen id=10 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ DLL075B:01 06CB:76AF Touchpad id=12 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad id=16 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=6 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Video Bus id=7 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=8 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Sleep Button id=9 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Integrated_Webcam_HD id=11 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Intel Virtual Button driver id=13 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Intel HID events id=14 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=15 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Dell WMI hotkeys id=17 [slave keyboard (3)]

so somehow it still sees the mouse device twice, but I was not able to deactivate one of them.

Inspiron 11 3179 not connecting to free wifi

Just purchased unit last week.  Went to the library and connected fine all day to free wifi. The next day it was very unstable and kept dropping out.   Same the day after etc.

No problem with my wifi at home or connecting to my own broadband device.

Similarly, the laptop would not stay connected to the hotspot from my iphone. Kept disconnecting after a few minutes.

I have updated the Wifi driver and changed the network adapter settings.

I can't test it until I get back to the library, but is there anything else that I should do?

Anyone else find that the touchpad is less than fabulous?

There doesn't seem to be any options for improving its performance other than setting the DELAY time.

Suggestions for improving performance?

xps 13 keeps freezing/crashing (blue screen)

My xps 13 keeps randomly freezing/giving me a blue screen error.

Consequently, I performed factory reset on my xps and while setting a user account/installing critical updates windows gave me an blue screen error. Additionally, while installing more updates windows froze on me.

Note: This all happened prior to me changing/adding any programs on to windows.

A few hours later, while watching a video my xps 13 froze on me again.

programs now installed on my xps 13 by me:

  • Winrar
  • Pot Player
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Bitdefender Internet Security

My xps 13 has passed all diagnostic test.

Could someone help me please.

Latitude 7480/7280 and WD15 no preboot keyboard

Hi.
I'm new to this forum, so please forgive me if this question has already been asked.

I have a problem with the WD15 dock together with the Latitude 7280/7480 series.

The problem is that a keyboard connected to the dock does not work in pre-boot.
So I won't be able to for example enter "bios" with help of the external keyboard, and even worse (for the users in my orginazation anyways) enter the Bitlocker PIN with the external keyboard.

My bios version is 1.0.8.

I have tried both the USB 2.0 and the 3.0 ports on the dock.
I have tried disabling Fast Boot in bios.
Tried disabling Thunderbolt (since the keyboard is working on a 5480 laptop, I figured that this might be the problem).
I have also tried enabling Thunderbolt Pre-boot modules, and Thunderbolt adapter boot support in bios.

None of this actually helped.

If I connect the keyboard directly on the laptop it's working.

Hopefully someone here has some kind of idea what might be the problem.
According to Dell support the keyboard should work in pre-boot when connected to the WD15 dock.

Regards
Björn

DELL XPS 9550 Blue Screen "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" error

I have started to see this extremely annoying issue with my 1 year old Dell XPS 9550.  In between activity, that being when I am using a browser (usually Chrome) or even an another application for that matter, the computer would just crash and show me the blue screen.  The only tip I've gotten from the error message is that it's related to "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" error.  Can someone help resolving this issue please?

XPS L501x USB and other Issues

Mine is a XPS L501x from Nov 2010, which I reluctantly upgraded to Windows 10 over a year ago.

The laptop was working fine until last month, although slower than it did with Windows 7.

Suddenly, the USB 3.0 ports (the one on the left and the one on the back) stopped recognizing devices, then sometimes the other USB port also stopped detecting devices.

Restarted a few times, updated the drivers, no luck.

Then it only started working when I connect a USB device (mouse, keyboard, HDD, USB Stick) and manually update the drivers about 4 or 5 times, but once I disconnect it, it doesn't recognize it the next time and I have to update the drivers all over again.

ALso, one day the power button wouldn't turn the laptop on, tried it a few times, it worked once but there were repeated three short beeps all the way into booting and normal usage.

Microsoft said that the laptop may not be suitable for Windows 10, so I downgraded to WIndows 7 64 bit, now the same issue persists with the USB 3.0 ports, except the fact that the drivers wont update at all. only the USB 2.0 port works. I tried everything like manually searching for specific drivers, changing the registry so that the power save option is turned off - still no luck.

ALso, since the downgrade, the Synaptics driver (specifically installed) won't work, no zoom options, it only works with a normal touchpad driver.

Please help as I have to get this up and running for a project soon.

Office License De-activates after running dell command update

Hi all,

on the odd occassion both at my current job and old job when running dell command update and updates are complete, i have found that on some machines, one of the updates seems to de-activate office which then you have to run: cscript ospp.vbs /act to get to re-activate it again (which does work) but why does this happen?

INSPIRON 3147 is the WORST computer EVER

$

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 3147 in March of 2015, less than two years ago, and last weekend, without warning, it died. I'm getting 7 beeps, so it sounds like a processor failure, and since I thought Dell was a reputable company, I only got the one year warranty, so now I'm screwed.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks to fix it, or should I just start the process of buying a laptop from ANY OTHER COMPANY, EVER?
