What does the serial number on my laptop tell me about the product? Specifically, is it a code that tells me information regarding the product? I currently have a Latitude and the serial number is
<Service tag removed>
Does this tell me where and when the product was made along with the type of product that it is? Any help is appreciated.

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 15) stands on cooling pad, which is connected on the D3100 USB port. If I turn of the laptop the fan in cooling pad turns off. But after a few seconds fan starts to work again as D3100 has its own power source. So I also have to disconnect D3100 from the power or disconnect cooling pad from the D3100 to turn off the fan in the cooling pad.
Is there anyway to tell D3100 to turn off power from USB ports when there is no connection with laptop?
And of course I could connect the cooling pad to the laptop. But that is what D3100 should be for.
How can Dell not consider a serious overheating problem with my Inspiron 17 7778 2-in-1 a replacement option. I have less than 40 hours on it have been on the phone with tech support multiple times and it is currently in the "repair" cycle and I have been without my business computer for over 2 weeks while they authorized / sent the return box, entered in the system and diagnosed it. How does one contact someone at Dell with a level of authority to do something other than state that they do not really warrant their product they just give customers the run around.
I just found out that if I tap my iPad Air 2 on the front of my Alienware that it just shuts down and sometime disables the charger. Is this because it's plugged in the same extension as the charger so it makes a circuit and so shuts down the charger and computer? I also noticed that it said that audio jacks were being used as the menu popped up when I turned my computer back on which is weird as nothing was inside of my audio jacks.
The touchpad on my Dell Inspiron 7537 is not working. The cursor disappears, and the touchpad is not recognized. Sometimes when I start the computer the touchpad works fine until I type something with the keyboard - then it disappears again. When I look in Device Manager I can only see the “Dell Touchpad” if I click on Hidden Devices. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it, updated the driver, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, and reinstalled Windows 10. After I reinstall Windows 10 the touchpad works for a short time, and then disappears again. I also replaced the touchpad itself. I have run out of ideas to try. Any suggestions?

My laptop came with pre-installed windows 8 which was updated to Windows 8.1. I had been facing many problems with the system. So I tried to restore factory settings by booting through recovery DVDs that I had prepared earlier, and then planned to update to Windows 8.1. When I restarted laptop, I selected to recover from DVD and format all disks option. The process stopped at 26% and I got this error 0x4001100200001005 which asked to contact Dell support. Then I again tried to recover using the Hard drive partition option. It also stopped at 32% and showed the same error. Then I tried to boot in the normal way through windows but got the error "the boot configuration data for your PC is missing or contains error" (status: 0xc000000f). Now I am stuck. Kindly help at the earliest. I am not concerned about data since I have it on external hard drives. All I want is my laptop to be running.
I frequently attach and detach the keyboard depending on what I am doing. I already had them inspect it under warranty, and while that fixed the random shut-downs unrelated to the keyboard, I still experience issues occasionally when attaching the keyboard in which the laptop just instantly powers off. It only happens sometimes when I can't get it in straight right away. Is this a defect with the model or what is happening? Can it be resolved somehow?
I recently received a Dell Latitude E5570 with Windows 10 for work and the keyboard/trackpad does not work. The wireless keyboard and mouse I use when docked work fine but the keyboard and trackpad built into the laptop do not work. The touchscreen keyboard also works just fine. Is my kayboard/touchpad broken or is there a lock on Windows 10 and/or on the Latitude E5570 that I have enabled?

The compatibility list for SED NVMe support states that the DDPE tools will support SED (OPAL) hardware encryption for the PM961 but I don't see the SM961 listed and I thought the only major difference was TLC vs MLC. On the 7480 it shouldn't make a difference at 2x, but the write speeds will be much better on the SM series.
Is it compatible? The performance of the Toshiba XG4 is unacceptable. The PM961 would get closer, but it'd be best to retrofit an SM961. Thank you for any help offered.

I have my XPS 13 9360 for about half a year now (since November last year), but now the touchpad is starting to act up. I'm experiencing the following issues:
- From time to time it suddenly thinks I'm scrolling, even with a single finger on the touchpad, this is "unlocked" by left clicking the touchpad, but that often only works for a few seconds to minutes.
- Tap clicking is not registered anymore, almost always paired with the above issue.
I'm running Linux (Fedora 25, kernel 4.9.11 at the time of writing) since the beginning since I need it for my work.
I've ran the diagnostic accessed through F12, which found no error. I'm fairly positive at this point that it is a hardware issue, since it often happens when the laptop is under heavy load (though also during regular use) and a tiny bit of mechanical pressure on the laptop casing above the center of the touchpad fixes it.
The reason I'm trying the forums is because when I try to enter a support ticket it wants me to execute the Dell Diagnostic program, which I cannot do since I'm on linux, but I also cannot continue before doing that or having diagnostic data.
As I said above, at this point it seems like a hardware issue to me, but I'm open to suggestions.
P.S. I'm from the Netherlands, but I couldn't find a Dutch forum so here I am.
Hi, i have a big problem. I cannot turn on my computer. At first i got 4 short beeps, that meas a ram problem, so i tried to reseat the ram. I tried with only one ram in each port, the problem persisted. I took off the bios battery and tried to get rid off the "parasite current". This resulted the 2 short beep problem( no memory detected ). I`ve tried almost everything with 5 different rams. I read that the ports might be the problem, but i cannot find spare parts for my laptop(like other motherboard). What can i do to revive my laptop?

When i was bought my laptop, the bios is already locked by that shop. But now i want to unlock it, when I asked that shop for unlock the password they said that "they don't know the password" but i'm sure i didn't lock the bios. I want to unlock bios without disassemble my laptop. Please help me!!!!!
