My wife's Inspiron was giving her messages that the hard drive had errors and could fail soon. I upgraded her Data Safe and made a disk image of her drive onto DVDs.
I purchased a compatible hard drive from Dell and installed it. I can boot from the recovery DVDs that were made when the computer was received. When it starts a recovery from either the recovery or archive DVDs the error number 4001100200001005 pops up shortly after the second DVD is put in.
I saw at another location that message can occur if the new hard drive is not an OEM installation. That seems a bit restrictive to me since I would think that restores are often done after a hard drive crash onto a replacement.
Any direction on a solution that can help would be greatly appreciated.
