Inspiron 15 Problem, HELP!

My Inspiron 15, beeps 4 times, in 2 intervals and then 3 times once, and then it just turns off. My screen usually just stays black, but sometimes the Dell starting up logo can be seen. Also the it sounds like it starting to start up, but then just stops. It was in the rain for less than a second, but other than that I don't see any reasonable explanations for it to be broken. Help?

Touchpad gestures/scrolling/pointer not working after windows 8.1 update on Dell Inspiron 11 3137

Just got a brand new laptop, Dell Inspiron 11 3137, and updated to windows 8.1. The touchpad does not work properly now; gestures/scrolling/pointer not working. I've spent over 16 hours getting windows 8.1 installed and then troubleshooting this issue. I've contacted Dell; updated the driver from Dell, even tried installing the latest driver from Synaptic. I even tried setting the Synaptic app to run under the windows 8 version.

Touchpads have been around a long time. It's the last thing I expect not to work properly.

At this point I am ready to send the laptop back and call it quits on windows.

Can anybody help with this?

Inspiron E1505 and Windows 7

I recently did a clean install of Win 7 after reformatting my harddrive on my Inspiron E1505.  I have already run Windows Update and it installed an update for my video card and one update for a ricoh xd-picture card controller.  However, under my list of drivers there are still two 'base system device' listings that I do not know which drivers to update/install.  I've checked several forums and some people seem to have this problem and I've followed several links but am still really unsure of how to fix this problem.  If someone can be straight forward and tell me what to do to fix this problem that would be greatly appreciated.  I also have a problem with my touchpad mouse.  The scroll functions do not work.  I have tried downloading an update for Win 7 straight from synaptics website but it would not install, saying something about it not being a valid Win32 application.

Dell XPS 14 (L421X) 30-60 Second Freezes on Windows Starting Up - Possibly due to Micron SSD

I've had my Dell XPS since February 2013 and have been experiencing issues with 30-60 second freezes when the computer loads Windows 8.

I thought that this might have been a software issue so have completely reinstalled the OS from the factory version of Windows 8 to a fresh Windows 8 Enterprise image - I am still experiencing the same issues.

All drivers are installed and I have installed all of the latest firmware releases - paying particular attention to the new firmware for the installed 'Micron C400 RealSSD 2.5" 7mm 512GB' disk drive which I believe is the culprit here. The latest firmware for the SSD has improved the SSDs behaviour (it no longer randomly disappears from the BIOS after a restart for example) but the 30-60 second freezing is still apparent - if I am able to open Task Manager in time it shows the disk usage at 100% utilisation but doesn't give any clues as to what is causing it as it simply displays a generic system service.

All Dell hardware checks come back with a clean bill of health so I am looking for some ideas on how to identify what the issue is here.

Broken Power Socket

My daughter allowed my XPS L501X to fall off a (low) table today. The power socket was bent in and sideways as a result of this. Upon dismantling the laptop I find, with relief, that the socket isn't soldered on to the motherboard but is a separate unit.

The problem is the power socket block screw connectors. The block itself is essentially plastic but is partly encased in a piece of thin sheet metal. Both the plastic part of the block and the metal case combine to create a screw hole which protrudes at 90° to the side of the block to then attach to the casing of the laptop base. Both this metal part and the plastic part have snapped off.

Of course this means the block will be a little loose BUT will this be dangerous? I'm not worried about the plastic part but the metal part. Does this provide some earthing/grounding?

Dell 15 7000 issues (audio, screen, trackpad)

Hi, I recently purchased a Dell 15 7000 and wanted to write about 3 issues I've had so far. I'm unsure if it is a hardware, or OS issue, but maybe you can help me figure out.

Firstly, the audio is always fuzzy when using headphones or earphones. Speakers work fine, but with all of the headphones and earphones I've used to test, the audio is always fuzzy. This isn't normal on other Dell products (and others) I've used. What's the problem and how can it be fixed?

SOLVED Secondly, I THINK this started after the windows 8.1 update, but I don't remember. My display turns off as normal (setting set to: turn display off after 3 minutes) but the problem is when I try to move the mouse or touch the screen to turn it back on. The screen just doesn't turn on. The laptop still has all the processes running (I can tell, by plugging in a USB and hearing the notification for USB insertion, sometimes my music continues to play even when the screen is stuck from turning back on). Pressing the power button just puts the computer to sleep, but when I turn it back on, it shows the Dell Boot screen, but then goes back to black. One solution I've found to that was to force shut down by holding the power button. VERY irritating. Another solution was the change the screen time-out time, but I would prefer if my screen were able to save power by turning off the display without getting stuck on a black screen.

SOLVED Thirdly, and most irritating, the track pad is TERRIBLE!! Clicking functions work fine, but the two-finger scrolling is completely glitched (hardware or software/driver issue?) The issue is that when I'm using two fingers to scroll down a page, it shoots me to the bottom of the page OFTEN as if the END button was pressed. If it helps, when I turn on reverse scroll, the two finger scrolling the takes me all the way to the top as if the HOME function was pressed. I'm afraid to uninstall the driver because I don't want to lose the finger gesture functions by installing another driver that isn't compatible. Inertia scrolling is disabled* Even when scrolling gently, this happens.

If anybody has solutions for these issues, please let me know.

EDIT:

More problems that I have run into worth mentioning. The WiFi would consistently disconnect and reconnect to my University's internet. Sometimes it wouldn't reconnect and just say "Windows is taking a longer time than usual to connect" and ultimately give me limited, non-working connection to the internet. A recent update to the WiFi driver fixed the problem and I have yet to have any internet issues thus far. Dell is notorious, at least from my experiences, for its glitch trackpads and unstable wifi. I'm glad they fixed at least one thing!

(Not really an issue anymore) ANOTHER issue I have encountered (most likely a software problem) is that after unplugging the charger from my laptop, the power options automatically switch to power saver, even if I had high performance selected. This happens every time I unplug my laptop. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but what happens is that when it goes to power saver, it reverts  to the "turn display off in 3 minutes when unplugged" setting, which causes my screen to turn black, which ultimately leaves me with the problem stated above, about the screen getting stuck on black.

I have countered the problem by changing "advance power options" and changing the "power saver mode" to turn display off in 31 minutes. Usually, it reverts back to 3 minutes every time I turn the computer on.

More details: the audio issue described initially is present with both headphones, earphones, and earbuds. I've used beats headphones, apple earphones, and generic earbuds to test the fuzzy audio sound and with each of those, the fuzz is still present.

Too many issues for two days in!

If this gets posted it will be a miracle. This is my third attempt at posting this. First off I am shocked I am not able to use chat for tech support (they were right there when they wanted to sell me something) 1. machine sounds tinny. almost sounds like something is loose inside, front right - if you tap it - it rattles. 2. when watching movies on Netflix, the screen flickers off and on. black, then back on. very annoying. 3. the escape key only works when it feels like it 4. sometimes when I hover over a button, its as if I clicked it. example - the "new post" button above, if I hover over, a compose text box opens up and I have not even clicked the button 5. the unit is extremely slow "waking up" after I "sleep" the monitor I hope someone can help with these issues. thanks.

Latitude D620 Wont Boot-Up

It worked fine last night, now won't start up. When I push the 'FN' button while booting, the left Keyboard Status Light blinks, and the other two do nothing. So far I have uninstalled/re-installed the RAM to no avail.

When I don't hold-down the left Keyboard Status Light, only the left 'Device Status Light' comes on.

The laptop does nothing else.

Dell XPS13 Ultrabook won't start up

My Dell Ultrabook 13's screen suddenly winked out during use and now I can't get it to boot up at all. The battery's charged up (the indicator shows 5 lights), but when I try to start it up, nothing happens.  Holding the power down for a few seconds while the laptop is unplugged gets the backlit keyboard to flash, but the screen's totally dark.

Oddly enough, nothing at all happens when I have the laptop plugged in and try to start it.  No flashing keyboard or anything.

Any advice?

Dell Inspiron 15 replace wifi adapter

Hello,

My father has an older dell laptop which started to get problems with his internet connection.

For some reason, the laptop rarely connects to the unsecured network at the camping where he lives at the moment. Most of the time it will take half an hour, or it simply won't connect at all.

So my question is: Can I replace the wifi adapter with an Intel® Centrino (N 2230 for example)?

I know I'll have to download the new drivers, but could there be any hardware conflicts?

Some specs:

  • Model: Dell Inspiron 15 N5050
  • CPU: Intel® Core i3-2350m
  • RAM: 4GB DDR3
  • HDD: 500GB
  • Wifi: Dell 1701

Dell XPS 12 (Haswell i5, 9Q33) won't shutdown, UNLESS the power button is held for 5 seconds

HI everyone.

A few days ago I received a Dell XPS 12, bought from the Dull Outlet store online, and it simply won't shut down unless I force a hard shutdown by holding the power button for a few seconds.

It came with Windows 8 installed, and had the issue then. I installed the 8.1 update from the Windows Store, and the problem persists.

If I click the button to 'Shut Down' the laptop says 'Shutting Down...' on screen (as you'd expect!) then the screen turns off, the keyboard backlight fades out, and the fan shuts off. Is stays this way for a few seconds as if it really is shut down, but then without fail it immediately comes back to life and powers on.

I've had issues in the past with various PC's not sleeping, and waking from sleep because of WakeOnLan settings etc, but they were always sleep issues, not shutdown issues. I've never known a PC to wake it's self from a full shut down before! Is this likely to be a hardware issue?

I've tried all manner of fixes I've found online over the last few days but nothing at all helps.

I've...

  • used Windows 8 'Reset/Refresh PC' feature reset it to the factory settings
  • turned off all hardware options which to 'allow this device to wake' etc
  • turned off WOL and WoWLAN
  • updated all the drivers to their latest versions
  • made sure all WIndows updates are installed
  • all the CMD 'powercfg' tips and tricks I found
  • turned off all syncing and skydrive features etc
  • reset the BIOS, updated the BIOS
  • even tried a random tip to disable IPv6 in the network card settings
  • Disabled all Homegroup sharing

Nothing works! There is no clean way to turn off the machine.

I'd rather not have to send it back to Dell and get it fixed, but it is well within it's warranty so that might be the only fix?

The one thing I've not tried is removing the CMOS battery, which some folks way works, but that would involved voiding the warranty wouldn't it?

If anyone has any other suggestions or has managed to fix a similar problem, I'd love to find out how you fixed it!

Thanks a lot,

Rich

Was it registered by amazon.com before they sold it to me? How can I complete this task and have the ownership transfered to me. I also tried registering the laptop through the service tag number and it says the product is already registered. please somebady help me!

XPS 15 touch HDD upgrade

Hi,

I got an XPS15 i7 QHD 16gbRAM with 32gb mSATA + 1TB HDD then I've upgraded the main disk to a SSD 512GB (Samsung 840 Pro).

I was surprised to see the Windows Experience Index showing the disk performance at 5.9 only. Is there any issue with the 2 SSDs (32gb + 512gb) configuration? I'm using Win 8.1.

Thanks
