OS Recovery - no bootable devices

$

Hi

I was trying to recover the MS OS using a USB recovery drive, generated by the Dell OS Recovery Tool. The USB drive is recognizable on the BIOS setup page.

But when I chose the UEFI: USB drive option, it didn't work and showed that "System.was unable to boot. No bootable devices found"

I have disabled the SecurityBoot option and enabled the Legacy Boot option.

Can you help me with this issue? Please don't just copy the link of the guide. I was following the steps shown on the guide and there isn't anything about this issue.

Thank you so much

Coin Cell Battery Slot

My computer started acting strange when booting up and I was told it was the coin cell battery (the CR 2032) needed changing.   We took the computer apart and got the old battery out and a new one in but the Coin Cell Battery Slot had come unsoldered from the board so there was no connection.   Can the current slot equipment be re-soldered to the main board or do I have to purchase a whole new board?

Right arrow key not working

My right arrow key stopped working on my Inspiron 13 7000 2in1 (7359).
I googled for a solution and it seems like a ridiculous amount of people with a Dell laptop have had the same problem, yet I wasn't able to find a working solution.

I did some testing of my own and this is what I found:
- Latest bios update and drivers didn't help
- Diagnostic boot didn't find anything
- External USB keyboard didn't have the same problem
- Problem first appeared in Windows, but persists in Dell boot menu and  when launching Kali Linux from USB
- Here's the kicker though, when I press and hold the left arrow button and then press the right arrow button the right arrow button actually works, which is a nice short term fix, but I prefer to get a proper fix

I downloaded some tutorials from YouTube on how to open my laptop to check the keyboard cable and remove dust, but as I'm not an experienced hardware person I will only be doing this as a last resort.

TL;DR: I have 2 questions:

1) How do i fix this?
2) Why does this happen to so many Dell laptops?

Greetings,

Jor

Latitude E6430 ...a little help from Italy ...

Hello to all. I'm Max and I'm writing to you from Sanremo (Ligury - ITALY).

I've just bought a Latitude E6430 used, which was installed Windows 10 PRO (v.1709)

Configuration: 8Gb RAM - Intel Graphics 4000 - Intel quadcore i5 (2,70Ghz) - HDD 320Gb

I cannot configure the three keys below the space bar and (even) the fingerprint sensor.

This laptop it was originally purchased in France.
Best wishes, I'm in stand by for your kind answers.

P.S.: Excuse me ...for my not perfect English!

Power supply blue light switches off when I plug it into the laptop.

I have an Alienware 17 R3 and recently updated the BIOS and the other day I noticed the “annoying” blue ring on the charger switched off, to get it to come back on I need to disconnect from the laptop and switch off and on again. But several times since it will stay illuminated until I plug it in, the laptop hasn’t moved from my desk and the power pack has been under the desk so the only thing I think that could of damaged it would be this update.

It had a replacement motherboard a few months after purchase but now a few months out of warranty, is it only the power supply or worse?

Laptop says not charging, but battery doesn't go up or down.

I've been using the same charger for my laptop for awhile. But just today, when I turn on my computer it says that the AC adaptador is not recognized. The green light on the block in the plug is on, and there are no fraying wires or anything like that. It says "plugged in, but not charging" when I click the battery button in the bottom right, but the battery doesn't move up or down. I've tried restarting my computer, removing and cleaning the battery with a cloth and holding down the power button for thirty seconds without the battery in, and moving my charger to a different outlet, but nothing works. What do I do? Do I need a new charger?

PW7015MC compatible power supply

Hi, can anyone help please with advice on what the maximum rating is for power input to the PW7015MC Dell Power Companion (12,000 mAh)?

Is there a limit to which chargers I can use?

The label gives an input rating of 19.5V 2.3A, but I don't know if that's the maximum rating of the chargers that can be used, or whether that's the maximum it will draw, but more powerful chargers can be used.

For example, I have a LA130PM121 PA-4E charger with my WD15, this is nearly 3 times the wattage of my laptop charger at 130W 19.5V 6.7A. Is a 130W charger safe to use in the PW7015MC?

Or if can't plug the PA-4E directly into the power companion, can I safely power the PW7015MC from the WD15? Or should I only use the lower power laptop charger, which is just 45W?

It's more about convenience than anything else - using a charger that's already available as part of the docking solution rather than taking the laptop charger in out of my bag every time, as I'm sure one time I'll forget it...

Inspiron 15 7567 Video Playback issue

I have an Inspiron 15 7000 7567 with i7 1TB HHD+256GB SSD.

I have been having the issues many people have been having and now I can't find a solution to my newest one.

First, I had the grey lined screen appear from sleeping, which was solved with the BIOS update 1.2.0 and the new driver updates.

Since then I have had numerous other random symptoms. First, the screen flickers a couple times when turning on. Second, when unplugged everything freaks out for a second and then returns to normal. By freaks out I mean that sound distorts and video freezes. Third, there have been one BSOD with the unexpected kernel mode trap and one unexpected restart with no explanation in the event viewer except Event 41.

I contacted Dell support and they were less than helpful, turning off hardware acceleration in chrome and uninstalling and reinstalling graphic drivers.

My largest problem though has only become noticeable since that call, which is that any video eats up a large portion of CPU and GPU relative to what is normal and the laptop starts to work very hard, heating up a little and making noise. I checked this with both Chrome and Mozilla Firefox and two different video sites.

I downloaded and installed the newest Intel graphics driver that just came out (22.20.16.4836 ,A05) and just checked to see if it solved the problem. It did not.

I am in contact with Dell support but they take forever. Does anyone have any suggestion or solution? Thanks in advance!

Dell Inspiron 15 laptop "your device needs to be repaired" but don't have recovery USB

My Dell Inspiron 15 (5000 series, model 5558) laptop is coming up with a Recovery screen that says "The Boot Configuration Data for you PC is missing or contains errors" (error code:  0x000014c).  It says to use Recovery tools...but I don't have a Recovery Tool USB.  I tried to download the Dell Recovery Tool program and install it on my other PC, but it is a Toshiba, and it says I cannot install on a non-Dell computer.

How am I supposed to create a recovery tool if I don't have a working Dell??????  This is madness!!

Clean reinstall of Windows, booting to DVD

I have a clean copy of Windows that I need to install onto my Dell laptop.

I press F12 when I boot up the computer.  There is one option that comes up called boot manager, or something similar.  When I select that, the computer seems to boot to Windows normally (which is not what I want).

The other option is to enter the UEFI, and then go to the boot menu, I don't see a place where I can change from the hard drive being the primary boot drive to the DVD drive being the primary boot drive.

side note: this forum is tough to search (doesn't produce results) and I don't understand why there is no software section.

XPS13 AC adapter not recognized, battery not charging

$

I have an XPS13 9350 and on start up am informed that the AC power adapter is not recognized and the battery is not charging. I have the latest BIOS installed and conducted a diagnostic test after start. The error code generated is ePSA : Build 4304.07 UEFI ROM.  Although this started one morning after switching the laptop on with no discernible damage to the AC adaptor or leads, I have replaced the AC adaptor but with no change in error message. Placing the cursor over the battery icon shows the battery neither charging nor reducing. Any more suggestions?

Best Dell laptop for programming 2017

$

When looking for the best laptop for programming, you'll have a certain set of criteria that the device will need to meet, as well as features it will need to have. For example, you're going to need plenty of processing power in a laptop for programming, so that it can compile and run your code as fast as possible. Thankfully, modern laptop processors come with plenty of cores and high clock speeds, which certainly makes looking for the best laptop for programming easier.

You'll also want plenty of RAM. We'd recommend at least 8GB - if you're running complex code, and you'll need a large hard drive. If a laptop also comes with a solid state drive (SSD), that's even better, as it will help with the overall speed of your programming and coding - especially if you regularly rebuild the code you write with minor changes.

Having a dedicated graphics card isn't essential for a laptop for programming, unless you are coding graphically-intensive games that you then want to test out. Modern Intel processors come with integrated graphics capabilities that are powerful enough for pretty much all programming tasks.

Dell Latitude E5480

Dell managed to deliver a magnificent piece of kit which it says is the most secure, most reliable and most manageable business-class laptop. That Latitude 5480 does come at a hefty price though and compared to the competition, this notebook may feel underwhelming. However, Dell's forte lies in its services and aftersales. That particular model comes with a 7th generation Intel CPU, one that is an actual four-core CPU. While it has a far higher TDP than most of its peers (45W vs 15W), it is likely to be more powerful than even a top of the range Core i7-7600U.
