Dell E6440 very noisy fans on Windows - but silent on Linux

Hi everyone,

I just bought Dell E6440 and I have a problem with almost constantly working, noisy fans. I had E6420 with i5-2520M, 4GB RAM, HD3000 and 120GB SSd and it was way much silent than my new laptop which is great but very noisy.

I have i7-4600M CPU with 8GB RAM, HD 4600, 240GB SSD and Windows 7 Pro now and I noticed that even if I turn on web browser with one card CPU temp reaches over 70 and even 83 C degrees which causes very noisy fan work almost all the time.

I send it back to service but they told me it is natural for that strong machine and it is normal producent acceptable values. I agree but it is only web browser with standard web page (not YouTube HD Video!)

I upgraded BIOS to newest version but the problem still occures.

I reinstalled Windows 7.

I noticed that after I installed every graphic card driver from Dell site chronologic it was getting better with every version but it is still very loud comparing to E6420.

Finally I installed Linux Mint next to Windows and guess what. It works like a charm! Very silent, without almost no noise or high temperature!

What should I do? I need Windows 7 to work. Maybe I should check what will be going on on Windows 10?

Service checked cooling system and cleaned everything twice so it is not the problem especially that laptop works great on Linux.

Please help!

Bought this computer yesterday and fingerprint reader doesn't work. I've installed Dell Data Protection (Recovery, Update, Endpoint Recovery, Security Tools... etc) and I still can't get the fingerprint reader working. I don't understand why it's not installed there in the first place.

Where do I send the laptop if it is not working? My husband had the computer in Ecuador for a few months and said it had never worked properly and had been showing signs of a faulty drive. This laptop was bought at Best Buy in March and of course we need to to use the warranty protection as long as it is still within the year since it was purchased.

Is my new laptop battery genuine / original?to the

I have recently purchased new laptop battery for my Dell Inspiron 15R (N5010). I tried to find the battery on dell official website but couldn't find it. So I ordered one from Amazon India website. It had mentioned that the product was from Dell. I received it today. It is behaving usually. It charged till 96% and then suddenly showed fully charged battery! As soon as I unplugged, it again dropped to 96% and then kept discharging at uneven rate as time passed. I just want to make sure that its a genuine Dell part.

XPS L502x laptop backlight ribbon cable lacks locking hinge

I bought a new keyboard for my L502x because the old one was beginning to wear out, and I noticed that on the motherboard the connector for the backlight ribbon cable was completely missing the little hinge that locks the cable in place. It wasn't broken, just missing. I have a photo attached, it's a bit blurry but you can clearly see that the little white connector at the top has no locking hinge.

Is there no way to get this fixed outside of just buying a new motherboard? My model was a refurbished one and did not come with a backlit keyboard to begin with, but I heard people say that the connector was there...and yet it still has no option of locking the cable in place, which is very frustrating.

(The keyboard does work regardless, I'm just mildly annoyed that I can't use the backlight)

XPS 13 Hard Drive

In May 2016 I purchased a Dell XPS 13 and paid extra for extra memory and a great processor, I paid over 1800 US dollars in total. The laptop lasted for exactly two weeks before the blue screen of death. Per Dell tech support my drive was faulty. After two weeks the hard drive was replaced but the laptop still does not work. I'm heavily reliant on my laptop for work and after paying 1800 dollars I have a plastic piece of trash to pay for it. I've requested a new laptop as I was obviously sold a Lemon, but they have refused each time. I'm so terribly disappointed and as this is my 4th Dell laptop I've purchased this will absolutely be my last. It's clear they are more concerned about their bottom line than putting out a quality product.

Inspiron 3520 screen randomly covered in white fuzzy horizontal lines

$

Hi all,

The screen of my Inspiron 3520 randomly becomes completely covered in white fuzzy lines; the entire screen.

There is no particular pattern for when this happens. It sometimes happens as soon as I log in and begin typing and/or clicking on the mouse pad, and on other occasions I can use the laptop for a good hour or two before it happens. Today, for example, I used the laptop for 5 minutes and it happened 4 times, with each occasion lasting about 20-30 seconds in duration. However, yesterday I used the laptop for over an hour and it didn't happen at all.

I imagine this is a hardware problem relating to a wire connecting the screen as it only happens when I'm actually using the laptop to type or surf the web etc (I can watch a film on the laptop for a straight 2 hours and it won't happen once, so long as I don't touch the machine). So I'm thinking that possibly the mild vibrations caused by me pressing the keys and/or mouse pad are causing a wire to disconnect or become lose. It doesn't matter if the laptop is 'hot' or 'cold: it's indiscriminate.

I have ran all the applicable tests on SupportAssist and no issue is found. I've also updated all drivers. About 6 months ago I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 and the problem stopped for a short while, so I was hopeful it had been a software glitch. However it soon started again and now it's happening so frequently the laptop is basically useless, other than for watching films/clips.

Any ideas/suggestions, guys?

Many thanks

Brand new Inspiron 15 3000 Series touchpad not scrolling

Just purchased a new Inspiron 15 3000 series laptop and booted it up for the first time today.  I am having difficulty figuring out the touchpad, specifically the scrolling.  It worked initially during set up, but then once I had that done, I can no longer get it to scroll - at all.  I have looked through all settings, and it seems like everything is right.  The drivers are up to date as well.

What can I do?

Wont turn on.

Hi, my dell laptop wont turn on at all. I tried plugging it in, thinking it was just dead, but it wouldn't turn on. i waited a few minutes, but then it still wouldn't turn on. i checked the light the show that it is charging, but the light wasn't on.

i tried unplugging everything from the laptop, taking out the battery, holding the power button for ten to twenty seconds, then putting the battery back in and plug in the power cord into the laptop. that didn't work. not even a screen with a text. i have tried looking at different diagnostics, but none fit the problem

What should i do?

Hello,

I have a problem with my new laptop and it happens only sometimes. It is around 1 month old and it had this problem from the beginning . The laptop is a DELL INSPIRON 3552

1. DELL LOGO appears

2. Screen backlight is ok

3. Windows won't start ( window's logo doesn't appear ) and if i plug an external mouse the cursor is on the black screen.

If I shut down the laptop from the power button and the start it again it works. It's very random. Once I had to restart the laptop for 3 times before the windows started.

Any ideas ?

Dell: even the bag is bugsy (Premier for XPS15)

I bought the expensive bag (sleeve) for XPS15. I was wandering... how could they put a software bug in it? :)

The bug is not in the software but in the magnetic closure that is too weak and reopens even if not wanted.

Problem with new dell laptop and smartboard

$

I'm hoping someone else has seen this and can make a suggestion...

New smartboard (well, smart interactive flat panel, model 4065) and new dell latitude 5570. When I connect the usb cable, windows makes it noise and installs the device. It works as a touchscreen, but not as a smart device... meaning it doesn't show in the smart settings, it says "No smart boards are connected".

I called Smart tech support and we tried everything. This panel works on an older dell laptop no problem. I installed the newest software, updates, chipset drivers, bios updates, everything. No go. I even tried on another new 5570 laptop and it has the same problem. All 3 laptops are Windows 10, x64 (10.0.14393), same smart software version (2016). The only difference is the 2 5570's don't work and the 1 5520 did work.

I clean installed windows instead of using our image, so it was just windows 10 with nothing else but smart software and it still does the same thing, works as a touch device but will not work in the smart software.

I'm out of ideas. Suggestions?

So I called Smart support back up and reopened the ticket. We tried forcing the correct driver on it via device manager and that didn't work. He had no ideas. Level 2 support said its not their problem because it works on an older laptop. What kind of<ADMIN NOTE: Profanity removed as per TOU>is that? Seriously thinking about returning it. If its not going to work on any new computers, why did we pay 3 grand for it? Anyway, no better or worse off than before. God, I hate Smart brand<ADMIN NOTE: Profanity removed as per TOU>

XPS 13 - buzzing sound during screen redraw

$

Hello,

I have a problem with Dell XPS 13, when something is redrawn on screen I hear buzzing sound. Sometimes it's louder and sometime quieter. Not able to found out why it is sometime louder. Tried to connect/disconnect to adapter, changed backlight intensity, WiFi signal, CPU load, file copy but it seems that intesity of buzzing sound is not dependent on any of these.

It is not easy to identify from where sound come from, probably from left side, near power connector.

Did anybody exprerienced same problem? How did you solve it?

Motherboard was already replaced, buzzing sound remain.

Thank you
