Dell Insprion

Hello,

So I'm having a lot of issues with my laptop to which it was upgraded to Windows 10 (which has been working great since tbe upgrade came out). Starting on Friday, my laptop would continuously freeze (Cortana and windows are not responding). So I did system restore which worked but it was going beyond slow.

I tried resetting my laptop but it kept giving me there was an error and couldn't restore to default.
I tried the boot options which found no errors.

Now it doesn't even load, I start the laptop and it gives the Dell Inspiron loading and then restarts continuously.

Any advice will greatly be appreciated!

Thanks!

Stylus for inspiron 7000 series

So I just got my inspiron 13 7000 series 2 in 1 special edition. During the ordering process it offered me to add the active stylus to my order. I assumed since it popped up as an accessory for it that it was compatible. Ask sales, they say yes it is. Naturally the stylus arrives 3 weeks before the laptop of course. I can't figure out how to get it working with the laptop. Tech department tells me it isn't compatible. I also assumed the laptop would have come with a stylus, wrong. So here I am 2 days, multiple calls, and hours wasted with no response on returning the stylus and no answers to which one is actually compatible. I have never dealt with such awful customer service. I spent a good 3-4 hours today alone being bounced from department to department phone wise, on hold, waiting in queue for live chat as well only to be told I have the wrong department. All I want to do is return the *** stylus and find out which one actually works. And also why mine didn't come with one to start with. Between the awful customer service, waiting 3 weeks for my laptop to ship, the difficulty in returning the stylus, I am so ready to just send the laptop back and be done with Dell all together. I am seeing so many complaints about their service and products it is sad really. You cannot be THAT busy that since before thanksgiving your call and chat wait times are HOURS. then again based off the amount of dissatisfied customers...I can believe it. Has anyone had a GOOD experience? Should I just return everything while I can and run far away from Dell?my gut sure is telling me to. Because if such a small issue is a big problem then what happens with something major?

I want to change the fans on my laptop but before I order the wrong parts, could someone please advise as to whether both fans are identical, i.e. just turn one over,  or whether there is a left and right hand version?

Dell Touchpad properties does not work well with Windows 10 Universal/Modern apps

I have a Vostro 3560 that I upgraded to Windows 10. This system is supported with Windows 10 as per Dell's website. One major problem I have is that touchpad gestures act completely different on desktop apps verses modern/universal apps. I currently have two finger scrolling set to work well with desktop apps, but on modern apps the scrolling is so fast it's all but useless. Changing the scroll speed setting in the Dell touchpad app only seems to affect desktop apps with any reliability. The Edge browser (which is a universal app) sometimes seems better, but universal apps such as pictures are unusable with my touchpad. I hope that Dell will update these apps to correctly work with both desktop and modern/universal apps because right now the experience is very frustrating!

Blank screen with PEG on M17Xr3

Upgraded my GPU a week ago to a 580m and all is working fine in Window, the reason for upgrading is Nvidia drivers are better in Linux then AMD.

It turns out there is something up with the M17X bios that stops powermiser form working right,

according to that post if I disable my integrated graphic it will work fine, or though this is not ideal its something I don't mind doing.

Only problem is when i switch to PEG using the stock A12 bios my screen dose not display anything, if i hook up an external display i can use the laptop no problem just with out the internal display, it used to worked fine with my 6870m.

Issue with battery life after downgrading to Windows 7 from 8. Dell Inspiron 3537

I have the said model which usually gave me a pretty decent battery life of 8-10 hours but since I switched back to Windows 7 and even after downloading all the necessary drivers from the Dell website the battery life has reduced to approx 4 hours. The power saver doesn't do a thing and its just very inconvenient to keep on plugging it to the charger.

In windows 8 there was this built in software called the Dell Intelligent Display I suppose, which is the only thing that i don't have in Windows 7.

Can anybody help me in getting that?

New XPS13 (9350) Battery Indicator Flashing Amber/White

Hi,

I've had my new XPS13 for about six weeks. It has been working fine.

Last night as I was using it, the screen suddenly went blank and I can't find any way to get it working again.

There's one clue though. When I press the power button, the light under the trackpad (which is, I think, the battery indicator light) starts flashing. It flashes amber twice and then white once. It repeats this a few times before stopping.

I assume this flash pattern is trying to tell me something, but I can't find any documentation for this. So can someone please help me out with a couple of things.

1/ A pointer to the documentation for these flash patterns.

2/ A suggest for a solution for my current problem.

Thanks,

Dave...

Inspiron 15 (3552) - can't switch off touchpad

Hi - I'm wanting to switch off or disable the touchpad for someone who hits it by accident when typing, they prefer a standard mouse.  Machine running Windows 10

This is obviously normally straightforward.  Here I've tried:

- going into mouse settings, looking for touchpad settings - none found.  No Dell touchpad setting option in Hardware and Sound category of Control Panel.  Nothing when I search from Start Menu or look through the folders of apps.

- Dell drivers page reports it to be a synaptics touchpad - so I've tried the synaptics driver and the Dell one, still no synaptics options available on Mouse Settings dialog.  Both drivers report successful installation, but it seems like neither are actually doing anything?

- on device manager, Windows lists the touchpad as a ps2 compatible mouse - using standard Windows driver, no disable option.  When Synaptics driver installed you get that listed in system devices - disabling it has no effect.

- BIOS - no touchpad options

Any advice very much appreciated.  Seems that system originally came with Abuntu and has been "upgraded" to Windows 10 by someone else - everything working OK as far as I can see.

Many thanks, Geoff

Forgot to mention using win 8.1

BIOS update Latitude E6400 from A12

Hi

on my Latitude E6400 I am on Bios A12, but I would like to upgrade to a current version, hoping this will solve my issue when pluging the device to an external FullHD Samsung TV, which causes the Dell to freeze in the firs place. Also I hope this will fix or improve the overheating and downclock issue when looking flash based media. (Windows 7 and fresh Windows 10). Reducing resoolution and color depth didnt really held on this issue.

So I read in this forum that I cannot just install the new Bios, rather going through the Bios versions.

The Dell-Helppage did not help at all, since its only states dependencies for Biosversions above A30.

So does the community have a hint for me how to update the Bios properly, as I cant efford ending with a bricked device.

Looking forward to hearing from you and thanking in advance,

Maru

Unable to Install Windows on XPS 13 (9350)

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased an XPS 13 Signature Edition (7 days ago) and love this laptop but have had numerous problems with it out of the box. I had Windows 10 Home preinstalled and ran Microsoft's big update for Windows 10 called Threshold or 1511 from Windows Update. After this update finished the laptop was no longer able to detect any network adapter hardware. I wasn't able to install the driver for the adapter without the installation wizard failing and the Device Manager included nothing regarding the network adapter anymore.

Instead of trying to troubleshoot this any further I just decided to format the computer again. This is where things went down hill quickly. I will admit, I don't know much about UEFI, Secure boot or GPT, so I think my lack of understanding potentially caused the following problem.

I loaded a bootable OS iso on a USB drive and plugged it into the computer. The issue was the computer wasn't detecting the thumb drive. Upon further research, I had to enable Legacy Option Roms and disable Secure Boot in the BIOS (UEFI). Upon doing this I was able to see the USB drive under Legacy Boot after pressing F12.

When I go to the point where it asks if I want to create a new partition or format current partitions I tried formatting the main partition but received an error message stating windows can't be installed because it's a gpt partition type. What I did afterwards was delete all 4 partitions listed.

The problem was I did not want to install an OS using the old school partitioning method. I wanted to be able to use UEFI, GPT, and so on. I am not sure what happened after removing those partitions but now I can't doing anything to this computer.

I am unable to create a partition when Legacy Boot is enabled because I am told no hard drive could be found. So I went back and enabled Secure Boot and disabled Legacy Boot Options rom so I could install windows on a UEFI partition. I even got a UEFI recovery media drive from Dell and I cant use any of the restore/recovery features without errors. Everything results in a generic error message or states a required partition is missing.

If I run ePSA Pre-boot System Assessment (Dell Diagnostics) I receive an error message stating Hard Drive - Not Installed. The odd thing is the BIOS can see my hard drive but nothing else seems to see it. If I run Device Configuration from the boot screen my hard drive is also listed as Non-Raid Physical Disks: PCIe 1.0, PM951 NVMe Samsung 256GB S29NNXAG919783, 238.6GB. I even restored the BIOS back to Defaults and Factory Settings.

Would anyone be able to offer some assistance on how to fix this? I am stuck one what I can do from here and speaking with Dell Technicians over the phone didn't get far either.

Laptop Only uses SSD Storage, not RAM storage at all - Dell Inspiron i7559

I just got this laptop a couple weeks ago and it has been giving me so many problems.

I've already used 217gb/256gb of my SSD. However, my laptop comes with 8gb of RAM, which I have no idea how to access.

Is there a way that I can use the storage from my RAM?

or do i just have to buy an SSD with more storage?..

Can see other wireless networks but not mine.

My laptop uses the Dell wireless 1397 WLAN mini card. I have had this problem before and fixed it. I currently can't see my network on my laptop but can see all the others in my flat. I am using my wireless network on my phone. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver. My router is on channel 12 and there is no option for me to change the channel width on the advanced tab of the properties of the adapter. I have changed the router channel bit then my laptop says the configuration settings it has saved are different and I can't get on that way. I know this is fixable because I did it before. Internet was on and fine yesterday. Please help.

Windows installed updates a few days ago and wifi quit working. I uninstalled the windows updates from that day, updated the WLAN driver and even updated my BIOS and nothing seems to fix the problem. It says I am on local only access but when I connect to the modem I still have no internet to diagnose problems. Any help would be awesome!

Dell XPS 13 - won't charge battery

I have an XPS 13 from 2012. I do not have the power cord that it came with, but do have  a new one that is Dell brand. When plugged it, the computer will work, but does not charge. When I start up the computer I get a message that I am not using the correct cord. This cord has worked for the last 6-9 months.

I did call Dell out of warranty service and they ran some diagnostics that all checked out ok.

Any ideas?

Win10: XPS 15-9530 Touchpad Goes Unresponsive Occasionally

$

I upgraded my XPS 15-9530 to Windows 10 and since then, the Touchpad will occasionally go unresponsive.  It happens once every 3-5 minutes and goes unresponsive for 5-10 seconds.

The Dell Downloads site for XPS 15-9530 shows the "Dell Touchpad" utility version 19.0.9.4, but it seems like Synaptics is much farther along than that: the official Synaptics driver download page shows version 19.0.19.1.

Does anyone know of a good way to work around this issue?  My main goals here are: (1) I want to keep two-finger scrolling and two-finger tap as right-click, and (2) I want this issue resolved.  If switching to Synaptics's downloads works then I'm happy to do that; I would just need to know whether I should download the "PS/2 and SMBus Devices" link or "I2C Devices" link at www.synaptics.com/.../drivers.php

Latitude E6540 Chipset update doesn't "take"

Whenever I go to the Dell Support area for this W7Pro computer, I run Dell System Detect and it finds the Service Tag and Express Service Code numbers and offers me Chipset_Driver_3664N_WN_9.4.0.1027_A03.EXE.

But after downloading and installing this update (which always is "Successful") and Restarting, the download site says I am still not updated. Further, when I go into Device Manager and look at the Intel entries under System devices, all of the driver tabs for these still say I am running 9.4.0.1023 version from 7/25/2013.

How to resolve so I don't face this question every time I look for new updates?

I've attached the log for the installer which shows actually a couple of installations including the first one from July!
