Hey,

My Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 laptop was working fine until today, it's refusing to boot now. I had a virus, but Avira seemed to clean it up properly, so I thought everything is ok now, but upon restarting my laptop I didn't even have the "Dell screen" anymore. I've been googling about this issue for hours, but no one seems to have this kind of problem. Most users get stuck after the POST screen, but I don't even get there. I just press the power button and that's it - laptop starts, but shows nothing. 1 time out of 10 I manage to boot, and then it works perfectly, even rebooting Windows works then, but once we turn it off it most likely won't start again for the next 7-8 attempts.

Things I've tried:

- Removing battery, held down power button for 60 seconds

- Running Dell Diagnostics test (both regular and thorough mode) - it didn't find any errors

- Starting up with and without battery

- Flashing BIOS (A14)

- Reinstalling Windows, even tried Linux

- Removing memory modules, trying to boot with a single stick (I got 2 x 4GB) - won't change anything 

So it looks like a problem that only occurs from time to time. Is it a hardware or a software issue? Anything else I should try before I send it to repair?

Hello guys,

I bought Dell inspiron n5110 3 years ago and after the installation of windows 8.1 it worked very fast. But now from 4 months this is very slow. it takes 2-3 minutes to boot up and 1 minute to login and then again 1 mintue to load applications. Its very slow and when i ran dell diagnostics from F12. It gave me:

Error: 2000-01 47
Validation: 17827

and

Error: 2000-01 42
Validation 51131
Msg: Hardrive 0-S/N 5VJDEQ

Please help me . its urgent.

I have noticed on game eg warframe my computer freezes what I mean by this is the audio continues to repeat the same sound and the screen freezes showing the last image before the 'crash'. The only way to turn off my computer is by a manual restart. My laptop is 2 years old nearly. Did just update my graphics Nvidia Gefore GT 555M. Please help me solve this issuse

Hi all,

I just got my new XPS 15, amazing laptop but there's 1 big problem,

A high-pitched scratching/screeching noise is produced from the power button area ONLY when the power is plugged in and the battery is fully charged.

I've seen other forums and others have exactly the same problem, Any ideas?

I found this example http://z.mk/e6vq , the power is plugged into the laptop at 6 seconds.

My Inspiron 15 R is making continuous beep sound during the startup and ends after windows is loaded.

Tried the advanced diagnostic by pressing F12 to check if any failure persist. However, none found.

Tried removing the battery and holding the power button for 15 secs procedure. It dint help.

Keyboard is perfectly alright no keys are stuck.

Any suggestion/ ideas will be very helpful.

Hi guys,

I recently purchased a new XPS 15 and have already received one replacement unit since my purchase. The initial laptop had a bad bluetooth module and now the replacement laptop has either poorly installed speakers or they're simply blown as they just vibrate and buzz like crazy. The replacement also seems to have an issue with the touchpad where the touchpad itself or the buttons stop working when resuming from sleep mode.

This is my second attempt at buying a Dell computer for personal use in the last 10 years; I had such a terrible experience with support and product quality last time that I swore off Dell but after reading all the reviews of the XPS 15 I was convinced to buy it. I'm amazed at the lack of quality control on these products and was just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues or experiences to this degree.

I'm so fed up that I'm actually returning this product altogether and getting a refund for the full amount and I think I will be swearing off Dell products for home use from here on out.

Hello,

the laptop suddenly started overheating when playing games that aren't particularly HW demanding (Aura Kingdom, medium details).

Idle / browsing CPU temperature is about 50-60°C, which is a bit on the high side, and after several minutes of gaming (no heavy load, about 20% CPU usage) the temperature climbs to 90-100°C and eventually the laptop shuts down.

The fan is working, nothing seems to be obstructing the air flow, laptop is being used on a flat glass surface, there's no visible dust accumulated. Using A19 BIOS driver, which I believe is up to date.

Thank you for any suggestions.

PS: Normally I'd start somewhere else and wouldn't spam the forums, but after several hours of browsing the support site I'm just too frustrated. I wanted to run Dell PC Diagnostics, which failed to recognize my Service Tag. I wanted to write an Email or join the Chat, but those options are not supported in my region (No Email support in Europe?? Seriously??)

I've had my new Alienware 14 laptop for about a year and just recently the AlienFX lighting hasn't been working. The lights turn on for about 2 seconds when I turn the laptop on and then they go off the same thing happens when I plug in or unplug my external mouse. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Alienware command center and I updated the BIOS on my computer and I did a clean boot, but nothing seems to work please help. Thanks.

I own a M6700 and have had a few problems with it so Dell upgraded me to an M6800. Problem is that my M6700 had an IPS screen and this feature is no longer available with the M6800 so I reluctantly opted for the matt 1920x1080. I currently have both machines while I transfer data etc so I did some comparison photos comparing the screen quality.

M6800 on the LEFT (matt standard) and the M6700 on the RIGHT (IPS)

I am really disappointed with the quality of the M6800 screen (matt 1920 x 1080). I can't believe this standard is acceptable. I mean this is a high spec laptop and Dell offer a screen this bad? The viewing angle is almost unusable. Left to right angle - not so bad, but up and down is so bad that I have to constantly move my head up and down to get an understanding of the colours on my screen. Everything thing is washed out and lacks vibrancy with a blue tinge through it. 

Does anyone else have this problem? I mean, I understand that it wont be as good as the IPS, but this screen doesn't even come close to other laptops in the $1500 - $2000 range (Sony, Samsung etc..) and Dell quoted my M6800 over 4 X that price!

Is this normal or do I have a dud? Is this a known characteristic of the LG, AUO or Chi Mei etc.. screens?

Thought we could accumulate some data on the M65 laptop here.

I'll try to eventually move the important data from there to here. I think we have all moved on from XP by now.

RAM Expansion:

I upgraded from 2gb to 4gb. Win7-64 sees 4gb, but says only 3.25gb usable. After some Internet research, seems its a problem with most Intel 945 based laptops (including Lenovos and HPs). Still, an extra 1.25 gb is better than nothing (over 50% increase is still good). Even though the Quadro FX-350m has dedicated memory, I think it also takes some shared system memory. I wonder if that can account for the missing 0.75gb ... or is it just the 32bit limitation thing.

It was pretty cheap at Crucial ($75) CT524379 4GB kit (2GBx2), 200-pin SODIMM Upgrade for a Dell Precision M65 System

I think WindowsUpdate offers this same driver in Windows 7. However, if you are installing 7-Pro, the generic driver will load on clean install. You have to go into System/Hardware/Device Install Settings and allow drivers to download from WindowsUpdate. Then WU will offer it, or you can update driver from DeviceManager. In Windows 8 you have to install it manually. I only tested the 64bit driver in Win8, and it works fine.

The Windows driver ID for the 32-bit driver is 20254023 (68.6 MB download). The Windows driver ID for the 64-bit driver is 20254024 (87.5 MB download).

Windows 7 Pro 64 (Clean Install):

Clean install.
Go into System/Hardware/Device Install Settings and allow drivers to download from WindowsUpdate.
Update FingerPrint Reader driver from WindowsUpdate
Update  nVidia Quadro FX 350m video driver from WindowsUpdate

No other drivers seem to be required (Modem, Ethernet, WiFi, Card Readers, etc. all seem to be working)

Friends,

               I have been using vostro 1510 for last 6 years and it was working very good. Few months back my adapter stopped working suddenly. So i bought one chinesse adapter compatible with this. But after some time suddenly i got msg that this adpater is not compatible ( not of 90 W) but actually its compatible. From that day i started getting some horizontal lines at the bottom of my screen. earliee those lines used to get fade with time but now i m getting few lines permanantly on my screen at bottom only. Now even my mouse pad is becoming less sensitive with time. Is it becuase of wrong adapter i m getting these problems. How to check my adapter is compatible or not. From where i can get genuine service for my laptop to rectify as well as replace defective parts in jalandhar punjab.

I have just recently received a new XPS 13 with the new haswell i7 processor, 8gb RAM, 256gb ssd, and windows 8.1.

I really like this laptop, but it makes a really bizarre noise. It happens constantly as soon as its powered on, like a high pitched whirring sound from somewhere beneath the keyboard. It also seems pretty inconsistent, like it flickers in frequency, and when you use programs (e.g scroll through webpages) it gets louder.

Can anyone help me with what the issue is here? Any help appreciated.

I laptop has been running incredibly slowly recently, so i decided to run the diagnostics test. I received the following error message:

RTC Accuracy Test

my laptop is not booting and need to find my service tag number but the sticker behind it has worn off.so this is my question,is service tag number and regularity number(model) the same???i found the regularity umber in a warranty book.please can anyone help?

I have Dell Latitude D510.  Recently the cursor has been jumping back when typing, so I find the last few letters appear earlier on in the document.  It's not a Word issue, as happens sometime when typing in Google.

Touchpad only has basic features activated.

Seems to relate to when I rest on the laptop, as if I hover it seems ok - but this is impractical & a bad typing posture!

Other non-Dell forums talk of several causes and several cures, none of which help!

Any ideas, or do I need a new laptop?

Dell Latitude E5540 keyboard and touchpad freeze. Sometimes when pressing Enter the keyboard and touchpad freeze but the laptop keep processing, so I need to restart my notebook to have the keyboard back, please help . . . Specs: 8GB DDR3 500GB HDD Windows 7 Pro x64, even with the preinstalled Ubonto have the same issue.

Whe I connected the charger of my XPS 14" ultrabook, its led behind the mousepad (the one that lights up whith a white light if it's ok, and with a orange light if it needs to be charged).

But right now it has an intermittent flash, going from white light to orange, repetitively. When I turn my Laptop on it sayed that it could't find the battery's number so it will not charge a thing.

Help.... I still have warranty time, but my computer is a need. Also I would have to pass all my files to a external hard drive 

If I don't have a choice I will have to contact to support, and How do I do that? ..... any telephone number for Mexico???

I had posted previously about where to get a keyboard, since I thought that was the problem: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19589084.aspx I marked that post as "answered", so I assume I have to start a new thread. I ordered new keyboard, but when replacement keyboard arrived, the same keys don't work on it. Bottom row of keys (Z,X,etc), space bar, Enter key don't work. Left shift and ctrl work, but not right shift and ctrl. Up arrow works but not the other arrow keys. USB keyboard works fine, all ok with it. Could there possibly be some problem other than motherboard? I've reseated the ribbon cable onto the motherboard socket many times, and I don't think it would work at all if that was the problem? Can anyone think of anything else to try? If motherboard is likely the problem, which model? I've gone to the configuration site at Dell, and while it lists many part numbers, the motherboard part is not listed. At Parts-People.com, they list two models, PP385 and PT113. I see the same models listed on Ebay. Is there any way to tell which I need, short of disassembling & removing motherboard? I know I would have to do that when replacing, but don't want to do it twice. Thanks, Steve

HI,

I have a Dell inspiron 14R 5421( touch and W8) and my laptop won't turn on with no beep or anything, just no response. I have tried the Drain flea power thing and it succeded. But after i shut down my laptop, the same problem appeared. I tried it again but the second time was a failure and so on. I still have my warranty. I just bought it at 10 March 2013. the AC adapter is in good condition. What I should I do? and what are the procedure for warranty ?
