Brand new Dell XPS15 9560 not supplied with a genuine Dell Battery

I have a 2 month old XPS15 purchased form the Dell Outlet Store in the UK. I usually have it permanently plugged in, but recently used it on battery power for the first time. I noticed that the battery wasn't charging, and the indicator light at the front blinks alternately white and orange (one white then one orange)

After a bit of investigation I found the BIOS Battery settings saying that the battery was not a genuine Dell battery and therefore wouldn't charge. I have not changed the battery - the machine is exactly as supplied by Dell.

It now pops up a warning about the battery whenever I power on.

I tried upgrading the BIOS (from 1.1.3) but every time I tried it would fail.

Is it now standard practice for Dell to supply laptops without genuine Dell batteries?

I bought a Inspiron 11 3162. It ran out of memory and stop working. I attempted to reset the computer to factory settings. The system says that it did not have enough memory to run it. I tried again to reset unsuccessfully. Now my computer won't complete the Post and load to Windows. Can someone help me to fix this issue. My warranty expired.

I started having this problem with my Dell N5010 laptop, recently. The BSOD is occurring very often now, even after I did all these things:

1. Formatted the whole system, installed fresh copy of Windows 7 HP and updated the OS with all the latest updates.

2. Downloaded the latest driver from Dell support for ATI Raedon 5000 series graphics card and installed it.

Please help!

What's the best option for Inspiron 5559 hooking up multiple (2) external monitors, wireless keyboard & mouse?    Is there a docking station for this model?   Or, would I be better off to upgrade the laptop ?

I'm seeing the D3100 listed for using with USB 3.0, but, not seeing very good reviews for it.

The touchpad on the keyboard does not work - and the keyboard itself intermittently doesn't work.  I have an external mouse and keyboard attached.  Have disconnected them, updated the driver, updated bios, uninstalled and reinstalled driver, everything I have found in other posts and it still will not work.  When I updated the bios, Touchpad now shows up in devices, but the driver is for PS/2 Compatible Mouse.  Running Windows 10 Pro.  Any help?  Thanks in advance!

Inspiron 3847 stalled during BIOS updat--MAYDAY!!

I used the recommended file from Dell's driver recommendation, checked to make sure the upgrade from AO2 to AO8 was in the correct SSID family, and it proceeded for about ~20 minutes, through:

-Reading flash

-FFS checksums ok

-Loading capsule to memory buffer...done

-6 steps of Erasing, Updating, and Verifying Boot and Main blocks, but

-Stalled at "Checking firmware parameters... with WARNING: Do not exit the process or power off before the firmware process ends.. Sending the update image to FW for verification:  [  0%]"

Red letter heading states Updating ME. Please DO NOT POWER OFF!

It's been running for several hours with no further progress, shows CPU usage between 25%-30% on Task Manager, and the little bar on the header keeps rotating.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?! Some have suggested unplugging and others say End Task, but in either case it sounds like the possibility of bricking is high. One who unplugged found he had the BIOS update installed when he rebooted, so maybe there is a problem with verifying to FW (wherever that is) and the process is essentially finished. I Hope!

XPS 15 9560 Flickering Line

Good afternoon, I bought a DELL XPS 15 9560 about 2 weeks ago, and 3 days ago I've started noticing a strange flickering line in the middle of my screen. Sometimes the flickering is in the entire screen (but not common), however the line is ALWAYS here.
I use my laptop for multimedia work, 3D and so on. Until now it never overheated or had any harm done by me.
The screen is a 4K touch display, but I never use it as touch.

Recorded 2 videos with my phone, since when I tried using Bandicam to record my screen it didn't show up.

Battery found drained after shutting down.

Hello there,

I have a Dell Inspiron 3542 and for the past few weeks I have found that the battery drains after shutting down the laptop. The following is a step by step explanation of the issue :

1. After charging the laptop to 100 %, I clicked Start > Power > Shut down.

2. After waiting for like 5 minutes and ensuring that the laptop is, like "dead" ( no sounds, vibrations or anything ), I closed the lid and kept it on the table.

3. Next day, switch the laptop on and it does not turn on. The battery light flashes for a second and goes off. I connect the AC adapter and the laptop switches on. It shows 0 % battery.

I have run a full diagnostic check up of the laptop and the results do not display any issues related to memory, hard disk or the battery. Lid sensor also works perfectly.

However, I found something interesting. I checked the Event Viewer and I found the following logs :

1. Information 10-09-2017 21:16:51 User32 1074 None :

The process Explorer.EXE has initiated the power off of computer DESKTOP-GJRG6VA on behalf of user DESKTOP-GJRG6VA\Dell Inspiron 3542 for the following reason: Other (Unplanned)
Reason Code: 0x0
Shut-down Type: power off

// That's when I shut down the laptop.

2.Information 10-09-2017 21:16:54 Winlogon 7002 (1102) : User Log-off Notification for Customer Experience Improvement Program

3. Information 10-09-2017 21:16:56 Kernel-Power 42 (64) :

The system is entering sleep.

Sleep Reason: Application API

4. Information 10-09-2017 21:16:58 Kernel-Power 107 (102) : The system has resumed from sleep.

5. Information 11-09-2017 10:19:32 Kernel-General 1 (5) :

The system time has changed to ‎2017‎-‎09‎-‎11T04:49:32.500000000Z from ‎2017‎-‎09‎-‎10T15:46:58.855067000Z.

Change Reason: System time synchronized with the hardware clock.

// That's the time I switched it back on.

As seen, the laptop was shut down on 10-09-2017 21:16:51. But, did it enter Sleep mode on 10-09-2017 21:16:56 ? and the log shows it resumed from sleep on 10-09-2017 21:16:58, but I did not see any response like the screen turning back on or something.

Does anyone has a solution to this issue ?

M6700 with Win10 - please check your PCI-E /GPU Speed for me :-\

Hi there,

my second post here and I am still on the same issue for a good year.
Short: My Nvidia K4000M is not running full speed in my M6700, unless I un- and replug my power adapter.
GPU-Z shows the nvidia GPU to be working at PCI-E16@1.1 speed, not at @2.0 like it should - even under GPU stress (stress test rendering). Once the plug is re-plugged, it goes up to 2.0 and the full GPU MHz clock speed as it should.

I assume this is a bug somehow with Win10. Dell are a little slow / not 100% able to test (Dell Germany for me) and I was hoping a fellow M6700 / Win10 owner could do a test.

If you would please be willing to help, it would be: Boot up your M6700, run GPU-Z (portable and downloadable on the net) and select the Nvidia GPU and check "Bus Interface" for the bus speed.
THEN click on the "?" next to it and do a stress test render - best would be on a second screen as this moves the GPU load to the NVidia.

What happens to your bus speed? Does it go to 2.0 or stay at 1.1 under load?
(If only 1.1, try unplugging and replugging your mains adapter - retest -> ???)

I have tried different drivers, Bios, Optimus on / off, Windows power options obviously (link PCI-E power management state), NVidia power options etc - been through it with NVidia support dev, no luck.
A quick test on your side might track down a broader Win10 / M6700 bug though.

Thanks for anybody testing this!!
Best, Andrew

M5510 BIOS 1.2.29 & 1.3.0 Prevent Windows 7 From Starting

$

Hello

Using Dell Command Update I opted to update the BIOS (listed as 1.2.29 even though 1.3.0 is the current latest BIOS) and the Thunderbolt Controller Driver 16.3.61.275, also listed were the Graphics Driver and Realtek Audio driver, but decided to do those later.

After the update Windows 7 startup logo would animate indefinitely and not load the OS.

I tried booting in Windows 10 with success.

From there I decided to update the BIOS to 1.3.0, but still Windows 7 would not load.

So I downgraded the BIOS to 1.2.25, and now Windows 7 started a boot time chkdsk. This by the way is difficult to ascertain because the output displayed is squashed into a tiny vertical space the size of my thumb running across the width of the screen looking more like a corrupt graphic than a legible text as it should be. But I knew it was chkdsk from previous experience. All I could do is wait until it was done. Finally Windows 7 booted.

Does anyone know why this BIOS update either 1.2.29 or 1.3.0 prevents Win7 from booting ?

Is this related to the Thunderbolt driver ?

Additionally, once in Windows 7 using BIOS 1.2.25, I ran Dell Command Update, and now the graphics driver previously listed for update is no longer listed. Yet another false positive.

Thanks

Brand new 13" Inspiron 5000 wifi capped at 150mbps (dual band 3165ac)

Hi,

Just purchased a 13" Inspiron 5000, got it set up, things are going fine. Then I do a speed test on wifi. As background, I have 1gbps broadband with an Ubee cable modem/router that supports AC protocol. I have a 3 year old Lenovo laptop with an Intel DB 7260ac that pulls in 300-400mbps. I also have a 5 year old MacBook Pro with airport extreme b/G/n card that pulls in 250mbps. The new Inspiron only gets 150mbps.

I've been trying to figure out why. The 3165ac card in the Dell has a theoretical max of 433mbps. That's already disappointing, since gigabit broadband is now available. But working with that, I have the Ubee router set to N/AC only protocols, using 5Ghz, wmm on, 80Mhz bandwidth, SSID set. It seems like it should agree with the 3165ac card to negotiate the fastest speed, but it seems like I'm only getting half N speeds.

I have the latest Intel drivers, windows fully updated, removed all bloatware. All speed tests (ookla, Google fiber, Xfinity, etc) are consistent. Is this a limitation of the wifi card? Of note, I see the 3165ac is a 1x1 card. My Lenovo has a 2x2 card. I just makes no sense that my newest laptop has the slowest speed.

Hello,

Perhaps anyone could advise what to do.

Just noticed that my laptop isn't charging, checked the charger and cable - and strangely, it's the following. After I unplug the charger for a few seconds, and plug back in - LED lights up in green, as usual, but after a few seconds it fades and doesn't come back up. No charging happening either.

If it were fully broken somehow, I'd expect it to be completely "dead", so maybe this is something that could be remedied? Any suggestions?
