Studio 1558--Battery will not identify-- power light blinks orange, orange, orange, orange, white

Any help would be much appreciated-- i a bought a  new battery and charger--- computer works off charger but says battery cannot be identified, will not charge. any suggestions? It is a dell charger and an toshiba battery
