battery was not recognized, not compatible. Plugged in, not charging

Okay here's a long story :

- Laptop's motherboard replaced, got new battery and AC adapter

- turns out Dell gave me the wrong motherboard, I had an intel i5 and the new mobo was i3

(since this service was done 1 day before me moving permanently from Chicago to New Delhi, there was no way to fix this, stuck with the i3)

- after new mobo, everything was fine except the battery.  dies. Message in the battery icon was "plugged in, charging 0% available" a couple days ago

-left it alone for 2 days and now whenever i boot up i get a battery was not recognized, not compatible, and would not be charged by the system message. Message on the battery icon is "plugged in and not charging

-If I unplug AC power the battery dies.

. I really do not think its a problem with the actual battery although its still a possibility. It could also be drivers. are there drivers specific to a mobo i should be installing ?

I already tried

- disabling and uninstalling ACPI, although when i scan for hardware changes it appears like it never uninstalled. it just pops right back.

- taking out battery and power supply. shutting down. pressing power button for 30 seconds. plug everything back in and reboot.

-same thing as above but reboot with only power supply, and putting in the battery later

I'm pretty terrible with computers. PLEASE HELP.
