Questions on Inspiron

The two(?) year old Inspiron (N5010) stopped powering up the other day.

  • Tried other Dell adapters that work with other Dell computers but it didn't make any difference.
  • Booting from the battery, which I don't quite know if it is charged (if I were to take a guess not because the LEDs on the bottom of the laptop does not light up).
  • I followed information from the web to take apart the N5010 to extract the hard drive. It is working fine.
So what can be wrong? Is it the motherboard but if so why suddenly???
In the meantime purchased an Inspiron 14z with Core i3. Other than Win8 UI 'fun' it is almost setup for the Win8 native system image creation to the external hard drive. The external hard drive has about 1.7TB of free space, this is a 500GB internal drive. Problem is, and I'm wondering if it is because of the very small SSD that is supposedly in there from factory, that trying to create the system image gives me an error of insufficient disk space! But there are lotsa' space!
Finally the Inspiron 14z does not have COA sticker on the bottom. I've googled it & some do say that COA stickers are not there any more. Wanted to hear some official words from Dell.
Thank you,
Rob
