So, I ordered a new system, and it arrived today. I go to start it up, and all I get is four beeps, nothing more. So, I call Dell, end up waiting about 10 minutes before I get to take to someone with a relatively heavy accent. He runs me through a bunch of tests, most of which I have already done, and now I have a service setup to replace the motherboard and the RAM.
So, Dell is just where it was when I left there 5 years ago. Still sending out systems that do not work, and then being so kind as to fix them after the fact. I just thought I would report this heartwarming story to anyone out there considering a Dell. I won't say don't do it, because there are so few PC OEMs left, and you can do worse, but the quality of Dell systems, and the quality of their preparation still leaves much to be desired.
Though, I do want to give praise to the Tech on the phone, he was very professional and knew his stuff.
It is just the idea of sending out a non-functioning system and then offering nothing but "we'll have it fixed in two or three days" and "I am sorry for your problem" delivered with little if any true feeling behind it.
Oh, and Forum Liaisons? Don't bother replying unless you are offering something more tangible than sorry. I am not interesting in hearing that hollow word from anyone else at Dell.
