I have Inspiron N5050 Laptop and my motherboard just went bad.  I bought this computer on 06/06/2012, that mean my warranty expired just over 2 months and motherboard went bad.  Every time I try to start the computer, it gives me 7 beep sounds.  I called Dell and spoke to tech support, they confirmed that I do have bad motherboard.  They want to charge me $328.00 to fix this issue, which puts my cost of repair at 78%.   Is anyone else having this issue?  I know that other laptop have same issues and there was recall for it.  This was my first Dell computer, have always used Acer and ASUS computer.  Are there a lot of consumers who are having same problem?

recently i was having some trouble with my XPS laptop.it crashes anytime then shows a blue screen and some error code(0*000000F4).
I ran diagnostics and got some error in hard disk test.
Error code was 2000:0142.
Computer is still working but sometimes crashes then i have to power off and restart it.
My Dell complete cover has expired..:(
Do i have to get my hard disk replaced?
Can you tell me how much it will cost me?
 or there is anything else that i can do?

I recently replaced the system board on my Dell Inspiron M5010 Laptop after the factory one went bad. After Replacing the system board I noticed that the laptop was running a bit hotter than normal even with the CPU fan running. So I took the laptop apart again and noticed that the Thermal Paste on the Processor was dry and cracked as well as the Thermal Paste on the GPU.  I then replaced the Thermal Paste with Antic Formula 7 Nano Diamond Thermal Compound and put the laptop back together. Now when I power the laptop on the CPU Fan only runs for about 3-4 seconds as soon as I push the power button and then does not run again. I did update the BIOS to Version 12 and the CPU Fan ran fine during that time. I did the build in Hardware Diagnostic that you can access before by hitting F12 at startup to see if there was a problem with the CPU Fan. Fan ran fine during the test but did not run more than 3-4 seconds after reboot. What could be causing the CPU Fan to not run more than 3-4 seconds at startup when before replacing the Thermal Paste it ran fine? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

I purchased an Inspiron 15 3521 back in February and after having it for a month, received an update notice that the BIOS needed to be update and to click on the link.  Upon clicking on the link, I received an error message that the system could not be updated.  I called tech support and they attempted to fix it remotely but were unable to do so, so I was instructed to reset the computer to its factory settings.  Unfortunately, I was unable to proceed with the 12 step process the tech sent me as the system encountered an error at step 9.  I wasn't able to get back in touch with tech support after this happened due to some family issues and am now wondering if anyone has encountered this same problem and what they ended up doing.  I am trying to find my warranty information that explains what my "limited technical support" is and whether Dell will send a tech to my home to fix the laptop or if I will have to return it to Dell.  I am also debating taking it to the Geek Squad or some other computer tech group through Office Depot or Staples to see if they can figure out what is wrong and why I am unable to update the laptop.  Can anyone offer some advice?  Has anyone else experienced this issue?  I am the kind of person who prefers to have someone help me in person rather than on the phone and I have been frustrated in the past with calling Dell tech support as I cannot understand what I am being told by the tech on the opposite end of the phone, if I could actually meet with a tech in person I'd have an easier time understanding what I am being told/asked to do with my computer.

 

Any suggestions, advice and information would be helpful.

I want to put a clean install on my laptop and I would like to know the order in which to put the different drivers.  I know this has been asked in the past but the question, remains unanswered. If I download the drivers as they are listed will that suffice? If I go by article id # 2678873, which was posted on 8/14/06, I don't understand where the following drivers fall into the order: "Bios" and "Removable Storage" . I would appreciate any help.

This is for a Studio 1737 with Windows 7 64bit, I am using the "Filtered driver results".

Hi, I have a Inspire 15 3521 running over windows 8 and constantly the internet fall down despite the excellent signal.
The limited word appears and I'm obliged restart the connection and some times the laptop. I did the changes on configuration like Dell suggested and the wireless works a little bit better until the bluetooth turns on.

When the bluetooth is on the wireless fall down immediately and the limited word appers again. Sometimes it works but not for long.

The updates are up to date (windows 8 and drivers Dell).

Do you have any ideas?

I just got back from being out of town and without my laptop for 2 weeks. When I got home and started it up it did fine. My Internet stopped working so I decided to restart the computer since that usually helps. I pressed Ctrl+Alt+Delete in order to get to my "Shut down," "Restart", etc. options. When I clicked on the icon to get to the "Shut down" command the computer froze. I had to force a shut down. When I restarted it was fine. It launched my Open Office Restore Document prompt and when I tried to decline restoring the document the computer blue screened. I went to reboot and it got stuck on the initial Win 8 start up screen. I forced a restart again. The next time I received an error "Windows Boost Manager has Been Blocked by the Current Security Policy" I pressed "Ok" and it went on to checking different drives, which all failed. It then said, "No Boot Drive Available". This is when I started Googling and trying to find solutions. While Googling I found information saying that either my hard drive is toast or my motherboard is toast, While I was reading this the laptop successfully restarted and I am on it now. 

Should I be worried? What's going on? Should I run a test on my hard drive or was this a fluke?

I bought a Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 just yesterday. Operating System is Windows 8 . But couldn't connect to the wifi.

My old laptop Acer with intel centrino, Samsung galaxy tab2, Iphone 4 is working fine with the same network.

Tried several things

1. restart the router

2.switched on/off wireless button

It is detecting the network like netcom wireless ( my one ) and also detecting the neighboring network like Bigpond, Telstra etc. etc.

I choose my network ( netcom wireless) , put the password then it says " it is taking longer than usual to connect to the network"

and then says coudn't connect to the network .

What to do ? any help ?

I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron i14RN-1593BK Notebook PC and in my last Dell Scan I failed the Targeted Read Test and SMART Short Self Test.  I guess I don't know what this means or what the necessary follow up should be.

Hi everyone,

A week ago I did some updating on my Inspiron 17R SE 7720 including Bios update to the A11 version. Unfortunately after this update I realized that the nVidia Geforce GT 650M graphics card was gone from my system.

I read other posts and people that have come accross this issue suggested that re-installing the bios would fix the problem, however in my case it did not.

Also I have installed the newly released BIOS A12 and A13 versions but non of these have fixed this issue.

Also re-installing windows does not either fix this as suggested by others in other posts.

I have also run the computer diagnostics from the bios and the card does not show up there either, is like if the nVidia Geforce GT 650M graphics card was not installed on the system.

Lastly I have run a version of Ubuntu on my Inspiron 17R SE 7720 and run a system check and neither the card is detected, just the Intel HD Graphics 4000 is detected on windows or linux.

Please someone from dell help us fix this issue, as it is definitely a BIOS PROBLEM.

If you are one of the unlucky ones like me that saw disappeared the nVidia Geforce GT 650M graphics card from your system, please share your experience with me.

Dell N5110 Inspiron

Possibly the worst laptop we have ever seen and we do this for a living.  

This started as a HDD replacement for a drive that barely made it out of warranty before it froze.    You have to DISASSEMBLE 98% of this laptop to get to it!!!!

New drive inserted , reassemble and NOW we cannot reinstall Windows 7 in ANY way.  The net is filled with outraged people who all get the same error CD Driver missing.  We have seen it 1000 times and we all know what to do BUT THIS Dell leaves you stranded there.  There is NO WAY TO INSTALL THE DRIVER.  

90% Of the drivers for this make that they have on the dell site DO NOT WORK  ( yes even the ones that are service tag specific. )

YES we have searched for DAYS and have found only people PLEADING with Dell for help and dell IGNORING them or sending worthless canned responses.

We even get " This software is not for this processor type "  ughhh

Like I said if no one here can help I am returning this machine and banning them from our services and recommendations permanently

Dell USED to be better than this.

Hi there,

I just started using my XPS 13" I received two days ago. It's a work machine, so I immediately transferred files and installed applications that I had on my old Dell Latitude. I've started noticing that the window I am working on keeps losing focus to somewhere I don't know, often in the middle of typing. But it's really random, so sometimes I can go for 10 minutes without it happening, other times it's every 30 seconds. Super annoying when I'm typing!

I read some suggestions to look at Task Manager, but looking at this isn't really telling me much as the processes are constantly shifting. I couldn't get a conclusive result from that. I tried to shut down the antivirus (AVG) and other things as well, but the problem still occurred.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to even troubleshoot this to find the cause? I am suspecting Windows 8 itself, but can't prove it one way or another, or don't know how to.

My specs:

Windows 8

i5 CPU

256GB SSD

Hello, i recently bought Dell Inspiron N7110 with B940 cpu, GT525M graphic, 4GB of RAM...

Problem is CPU load when laptop is charging:

When I play some game it doesn't go fluent but when i disconnect charger the game is going very well.

Also when i watch clip on Youtube, when laptop is on charger  CPU goes between 80-100%(and stuck a little bit) but when i disconnect it from charger CPU goes down( between 40 - 70%).

No matter which Power plan i choosed- its always the same.

Any suggestions?

Really need some help !!! I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop, it became faulty, it's only 2 or 3 years old. Recently stopped working, when switching on there would be no activity and the screen would remain black and it would beep 8 times. On researching i found that this could be the graphics card or the LCD display, as i connected the laptop to my tv via my hdmi cable and the display worked fine. Initially it worked fine, however the problem returned. I have since replaced the screen with a new one but the problem remains, it won't even work on the tv anymore - still keeps on beeping 8 times !!! Really need some good sound advise please so I don't keep throwing good money after bad !!!!

Hi There,

Please help, I've been having problems with my laptop for a while now and tried using malwarebytes, cc cleaner and MS security essentials to find any problems.

None could find any and malware bytes just hung so uninstalled it to see if that was the problem.

Now when I boot it says failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 

1. Insert your windows install disc. (The laptop didn't come with any)

2. Chose your language settings and click next

3. Click "Repair your computer" (I don't get this option when I press F8 and none of the options in F8 work)

i made a back up disc (which takes up two disks) when I first got the laptop and if I use them in the optical drive then it seems to try to load but gets stuck on a blue screen with a green leaf (??) and goes no further.

when I run diagnostics I get errors on the optical drive and hard drive.

The hard drive says Error code 2000-0142 validation 44142, hard drive 0 self test unsuccessful status = 7

the optical drive says Error code 2000-0147 validation 11894, optical drive 0 self test:opu test failed

Cant find anything on the web to point me in the right direction and can't seem to get the Laptop to boot at all now :-(
