Dell Venue Tablet Swollen Battery
Hi,
We have a Venue 5130 Venue Pro tablet. Its about a year out of warranty. I noticed recently that the battery pack had expanded and was expanded from the tablet casing so it wouldn't shut. I bought a replacement battery (not cheap) but only not started researching what the problem might have been and I can see that other people have had issues with their tables. The old battery pack has expanded to a worrying extent - and since removal appears to have expanded further.
Advice online seems to be to NOT try recycle this and to treat it carefully as its unstable. Not sure what to do it with so? If the battery packs are liable to being unstable how can they be installed in tablets to begin with. Reading online it would appear that there are issues with such batteries if they are overcharged. I don't know if that was the problem in my case. All I know is the batter packy is swollen up to an unreal extent. See Photo below.
Another problem is Dell Customer Support doesn't appear to be contactable in a tangible way after the 12 month service period is up. Negotiating the Dell website looking for a way to talk to a human about the problem is frustrating as everything leads to dead-end options, particularly at the weekend. Not happy with Dell hardware and not happy so far with Dell service

Little white dots appeared on the bottom left of the screen
Yesterday I was playing a video game called Dying Light in my Dell 5558 i5. Paused the game for like 15 minutes to eat and then come back. but looks like the game was frozen, mouse wasnt moving, could not minimize the game, or do anything, so I decided to close the screen of the laptop with the hope that it will turn the game normally or at least run the windows again.
but the screen didnt close, it didnt put on sleep. (I know it was a stupid move)
so I force shut down the pc, and when start it up, more than 3 little dots appeared on the bottom left side of my screen.
it looks like its hardware problem.. how to fix this? I dont have this laptop more than 6 months and is kept in a good shape, no direct hit, or anything..

Low Graphical Performance

Latitude e6540 Resource DVD Drivers
I'm trying to remotely help my daughter reinstall drivers from the Resource DVD (Dad's Helpdesk runs 24/7 it seems). We're a bit handicapped in that I cannot see what's on her screen and her description of the DVD's directory structure does not match anything that I see in the KB articles. The autorun brings up an html page with descriptions, but nothing resembling an "install" button. My primary goal is to get her ethernet or WiFi functioning so that we can get to the support website and download what we need. My best guess is that the appropriate drivers are somewhere inside a folder called \zipfiles (or something like that), but all of its subfolders are numbers, so are not horribly descriptive. If any of this rings a bell, could someone point me to where those little beasties are? Thanks for any info or assitance.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5720 with A19 BIOS update installed.
According to the latest owner manual page 44 to reset bios to default

I opened the case and released BIOS battery for more than 10 minutes.
This supposed to reset bios to factory default. However, its behavoior is changed.
When turn on laptop power, after press F2 key to go to BIOS display, I then use Fn+F1, it does switch to external display any more.
Fn+F1 used to be able to switch display to external display.
My laptop display is bad. Only a quarter of it is visible. I can see the laotp is up running in BIOS screen, but can not make any change in BIOS without seeing it on the screen.
Please help. Thanks a lot.
By the way, this is what I did before run into this problem.
I select enable UEFI boot. I also select enable secure boot (I think this may be the cause of the problem).
But I think reset bios to default, which I did, should clear these settings I made.

External hard drive questions
I recently purchased a Inspirion 5000 series laptop. I like it very much and try to keep it lean, I.e, I do not load it up with a lot of stuff. That is because it has a 128GB solid State HD. I thought that that would be plenty, but with recent MS updates, I am down to 42 gb free. A ways to go yet till I have to worry, but, I am thinking of an external HD.
I read posts warning me to buy one with a dock to keep it safe, and to buy a good brand. OK.
My questions: am I reacting too fast to diminish drive space? Also, can I save game installation files (e.g. Withcher 2 or the Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition from Steam) to the EHD and them play the game, and save directly to the EHD
As is clear, I know really very little about this subject--or I wouldn't have bought a laptop with a SSHD. Oh well...

KEYBOARD SQUEAKS - Dell XPS 15 9550
I have owned my Dell XPS 9550 for about 8 months now and noticed lately that the keyboard squeaks. It is hardly used so there is no wear on the keyboard at all. I tried calling Dell to troubleshoot the issue and after 1 hour on the phone, the response by the technician was that "since there didn't seem to be a malfunction to the space bar the annoyance would need to be tolerated". In other words there was nothing they could do.
Since I had purchased my laptop at Best Buy there I decided to have them review the problem and was told by a Geek Squad tech they had encountered this issue with the keyboard several times but they were not authorized to replace the keyboard on this laptop. That didn't make much sense to me but I had to accept his response. In desperation I checked online and noticed several articles about a squeaky keyboard on this laptop. Having paid US$2300 for this laptop, why should I accept such mediocrity? What else will go wrong in the near future with this laptop?
Dell doesn't seem to want to take responsibility for this issue even though it appears to be problem with the components of this laptop. Can someone at Dell please respond and help with a solution to my squeaky keyboard???

Inspiron 1545 not using battery, only AC power
Briefly, have Inspiron 1545 with a known good battery (less than one year old). It is recognized by the computer, displays as healthy, and charges seemingly properly. The laptop does not utilize the battery though. Unplugging it immediately shuts it down, despite the healthy battery having 80%+ charge.
More detail: Have an old Inspiron 1545 in very good condition. Haven't used it in a little while, it was just put away with a partially charged battery, I was made to believe that was a good way to leave it.
Powered it on just today and just for kicks, I initially tried it without plugging it in to see if it still had a charge, which was silly because it had been weeks. Oddly, only the optical drive LED flickered. I was surprised it had power at all, so I plugged it in and came on just fine. I then noticed from the Battery Bar third party utility that it was showing 80% charge, which I thought was strange because the laptop had been sitting around and also because it had not come on.
Later I unplugged it, intending to move to another location in my house, and it instantly powered off. I thought this was odd, since it should have switched to battery, but I've tested several times now and while the battery is recognized, charging, and healthy according to Battery Bar, the computer does not use it.
It IS a third party battery.
Is this at all possible that this is due to fresh-installing Windows 10? I do believe (99% certain) that the battery functioned fine when this laptop was on Windows 7.

Inspiron n5010 Touchpad and keys stopped working.
On my Inspiron n5010 my touchpad and its keys stopped working a couple of months after going to WIndows 10. Synaptics pointer software dissappeard from Device Manager. It shows a PS/2 mouse with a warning triange.
Uploading Dell touchpad driver has no affect. Uploading Synapics driver has no affect. Im no techie. Please get me back a functioning touchpad.

Dell latitude E5470 wireless Soft key toggle on windows 7 x64
Hello All,
I have a Latitude E5470 on Win 7 x64 that I am not able to use the soft key toggle switch (FN + Prtscr) to turn on or off the wireless connection. This functionality works perfectly in the Win10 laptop, however seems that the driver does not allow or is not functional in the Win7 environment. (In Win10 the airplane mode appears when I toggle the option.)
Have anyone experience this issue or knows of a workaround to resolve this in Win7 ?

XPS 13 (9360) Qwerty Keyboard error European webshops
When trying to configure the new XPS 13 (9360) on the Belgian webshop with an Internal US/International Qwerty Backlit Keyboard, an error about compatibility gets displayed. This error makes us unable to order the notebook.
Error message :
"Compatibility Instructions
Errors
- The selection - Palmrest for Belgium, Czech/Slovak, French, German, Italian, N-EEUR, Portugal, Spanish, Swiss, Turki is incompatible with Toetsenbord(=Keyboard)"
I have noticed the same error exists on other European webshops that offer the option to pick an Internal US/International Qwerty Backlit Keyboard. Any news on when this gets fixed?
