XPS 15 9550 with TB15 dock

Dell XPS15 + TD15 is the biggest fail of 2015 and 2016.

This is unbelievable example of software team incompetency.

If XPS15 works in common stable after 6+ months after sales started.

While TB15 not only lags, but every new software update adds new lags and bugs, even not always fixing previous. This is unbelievable worst software processes.

And this is one of the best PC laptop and one of the best Thunderbolt dock.

The problem is not new:

I have Dell XPS15 9550 + TB15.

Sure this doesn't work with a closed lid with any configuration.

But it doesn't work even with opened lid. I used this manual to configure and update drivers/firmware.

It was working for me in June, and first part of August (sure with lags, but I was able to work with this).

But then, suddenly %), without any updates, lags frequency increased. And my external monitor became turning off every 1-10 minutes. Sound and mouse too.

Without any updates, like a magic.

After updating from scratch of all drivers and firmware (the same manual), nothing changed.

Actually I think monitor works with more lags.

As a customer who used V131 laptop, Dell monitor for many years, it looks like that were last products I purchased..

I've been trying to figure out what's been going on with the Display

Sometimes it was just a Backlight on and no Display- Other times "Burned Images" on the Screen.  Sometimes when you move your mouse across them they would be "Erased" and other times bringing up a window could cause them to Disappear - or Appear.    / Checker Board Squares, and I guess the usual problems associated with Display Problems.

External Monitor does not work.

I used an Eraser and Cleaned off the RAM Pins (As I seen this suggestion on another blog for fautly Memory Sticks) and it seemed to have worked somewhat better than it was... I'm also wondering if the Black Protector under the RAM is or has Caused Problems... Lifting it- there is a Sticky Strip which has some Debris.. Which I tried to wipe off.. but it also seemed to be Stuck Fast/ Melded to the MB.

Using the Dell Diagnostic Tools found nothing wrong with the Short Test

Memory Diagnostic showed no Problems-
But, could not perform the Video Card Stress Test
message that Driver needed to updated
But Dell Drivers did not detect any drivers need to be updated - I had previously run Dell Driver update and it only had one for the BIOS which I had Updated.

I once again, removed the RAM- Cleaned the Pins and Slot and rebooted- Run the Memory Test from Windows at boot

Dell XPS 15, 9550 Several Issues (Audio, Software, Heating when closed)

Hi,

I own a Dell XPS 15, with 4K screen (touchscreen), 1TB SSD, 16GB Ram and GTX960M.

I have several Issues with the laptop, concerning both the audio and the general usage of it.

For the audio, it works fine until I plug my headphones in and out again. After plugging my headphones out, there is no audio what so ever and when i plug my headphones back in there is no audio either. I tried connecting to a Bluetooth device and this works fine. However, I have several high quality non-Bluetooth headphones which I would like to use without having to restart my laptop every single time.

The general problems are a bit more concerning to me as one of them is about overheating my laptop.

After I close the lid of my laptop and put it in my bag I would assume that it is sleeping and that nothing will happen. However, several times when I take the laptop out of my bag it is super hot and I can almost not touch it. The fans are and processor are maxed out for some reason but when I turn my laptop back on there is nothing working on the background.

The other general issue I have is which I am guessing is with my windows software. When I am at my desktop, or at any screen for that matter, my windows key on my keyboard does not work, I cannot left-click any icons on the right bottom of my screen and the "menu" does not pop-up when I slide my finger from the right hand-side of the screen towards the middle. I am guessing that this is an issue with windows 10 rather then the laptop itself.

Dell Inspiron 15 5558 broken hinge cover

Hi all,

Laptop: Dell Inspiron 15 i5558-5717SLV Signature Edition

Purchase date: 12/09/2015

I am so glad to see to see that I am not the only one who has a hinge cover broken as I was beginning to think that I might have accidentally bumped the laptop somewhere (I am extremely cautious electronics user and none of the electronics products I used had physical damage in past.).   As you can see in picture, left side hinge cover is broken which causes the display screen to come off when I try to close the lid.  Getting hold of the customer representative is an ordeal itself but when I finally could get hold of the guy, he told me that this damage is not covered under the one-year warranty and I will have to pay $150/- in order for this laptop to get looked at by dell professional plus have to bear the cost of the new part.

Apart from this problem, touchpad is too sensitive to touch of my palm and cursor goes all over the place when I type. I have tried to change touchpad settings from control panel and uninstall the touchpad drivers but it has not helped.

Overall I think this laptop is of low quality. Now I understand that Inspiron products can’t be compared with Vostro or Latitude products, but this laptop is bad for even Inspiron standards. My four-year-old Inspiron N4110 is way better than this laptop and still working fine. I am sorry to say this but this has been one of the worst products I have ever used.

Computer won't accept Keyboard input either from hardware or screen

My wife has an Inspirion i5 7352.  She handed it to me to look at a networking problem, but for some reason, the PC will accept no input except from the mouse.  Since I rebooted her PC to fix another issue, no KB input is accepted, so I am unable to get past the logon screen to do any further diagnostic.

Inspiron 11-3147 USB Ports UNREASONABLY TIGHT for CONNECTIONS!

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 11-3147 [Intel Pent. 64- bit, N3540 @2.16 GHz, 4 Gb RAM]

It's been working so well for me since new—eight months ago—and I continue to be thrilled with it. I don't plug in many USB devices (occasional Sandisk flash drive back-up), but I did observe right out of the box that it had extremely tight-fitting USB ports. Of course, back then I performed Web searches for any users sharing a similar experience, but only found a few comments about a different Dell model. I reasoned that the problem would lessen with use and familiarity. Mutual understanding between my Dell and me ;-)

I really do pamper this baby and its peripherals. That's why I'm fairly crestfallen the day after my Microsoft wireless mouse nano transceiver separated from its casing when I attempted to ever so cautiously switch ports from the USB 3.0. Fortunately, I was able to carefully remove the protruding transceiver with long needle-nose pliers and reattach the casing in order to reassign the nano to the first USB 2.0 port (right side) where it is also too tight, but is working as it should and will remain! The lower right corner tip of the USB 3 port's recessed tray is now slightly disfigured, but I'm sure this is to be expected over time on these connections, albeit ones used more frequently than mine and with far less fastidious hands.

I suppose I'm looking for people to commiserate a bit with me. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I'm feeling kind of let down by Dell especially since I take such good care of my Inspiron; when I bought it, I never bargained on getting toolbox tools anywhere near it!

I really do believe the company when it advertises how many thousands of times their robots test hinges, keyboard taps, impact shocks, etc., but maybe they should have had a human being attempting to plug in a standard USB drive in any of the system's ports at the end of the assembly line. At least on mine! I am looking forward to many more years of productive and enjoyable use of my Inspiron. Thank you for your time. —RPA

I was having an issue with my laptop. I have a dell inspiron Touch screen , the first issue after a year and a half of use was that when I turn it off, sometimes, did not start up when I turn it back on again . Was not working at all , but I had all 3 bottoms that are in the top of the keyboard of my laptop on, I mean , the light on those 3 buttons were on. But pc seems to be off. The fan was not on . Nothing . I tried to turn it on (the laptoo) and nothing happened. So I fugue really out that I was able to turn the laptop on , once the battery was fully discharged.  So I had to wait for 1 week and half for those 3 light drained all the power from my battery.  That happens o me several times. And now the laptop when I turn it on does not show video. But when I press the power button again, shut down really quick . So, doesn't even load anything . I press power button and turn off the pc within 2 seconds

Hi everyone,

Yesterday while I was working on a school asignment, my laptop suddely crashed down and showed like adistorted  blue screen so I hard reset the laptop and waited for like a minute, when I turned on the computer again I was sent straight to the diagnostics screen and got the message that "No hard drive was found" also there's a really weired sound at the bottom right side of my laptop, according to the manual I downloaded there's where the hardrive is located, I'm tryng to contact the support team as I bought my laptop 5 months ago, since I started using it i noticed a latency in the way the system responded which to me it's not normal as my laptop has 6GB of RAM, processor: i3 and I only use it for school, the only thing I usually work with are office document's and openToonz. My laptop is still under warranty, is there any way someone could help me out here? I'm using my roomate's computer to post this message.

Thank you.

Yesterday, I noticed something in the left side air vents and it worries me too much.

It is indicated by the red arrow, I used a teeth wooden stick to figure out what it was but I was afraid that it might be a part of the vents so I was afraid that I might break it. It feels as light as a silk lines.

Can you please see what that is?

It's Inspiron 15z i7-3537U

Thanks.

Excel scrolling issues on second monitor (Dell XPS 15 9550 & Dell U2717D)

$

We're encountering scrolling issues with Excel 2013 (and 2016).

What we mean by that is graphic distortions (blocks of black) appearing on the worksheet during the scroll action.

It happens almost exclusively on the externally attached monitor.

Even after the scrolling action is finished the blocks of blacks will persist and will obscure the data in the cells. Generally only opening the worksheet anew will correct the issue (until scrolling is once again initiated)

This is on a new Dell XPS 15 (9550) running Windows 10.
The monitor is a Dell U2717D connected via the HDMI.

We've done quite a bit of troubleshooting but before describing in detail we wanted to know if anybody had seen something similar?

Dell Webcam Central issues after Windows 10 updates * Pan/Zoom not working on Integrated Webcam * Inspiron 17R 5720 laptop

this wass also a reply to another thread posted by romeshomey, link bellow:

en.community.dell.com/.../19989564

---------

My laptop model is Inspiron 17R 5720 and Im having the exact same problem after the Microsoft Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607: August 31, 2016 - KB3176938, done Sep 4th. I was also already running Win10 and it didnt mess with Webcam Central - till yesterday when I gave the reboot necessary to install the update files.

Pan/Zoom/Position Arrows show as available to be used but if you try to use then, nothing happens and back to full zoom. Only thing it allows me to do is to change to Face Tracking.

I called Dell Suport Center and for about 2 hours I ran diagnostics and tried possible solutions with the tech assistant but he wasnt very helpfull at all. All diagnostics came back with positive/OK/passed results and they offered me a paid support to fix the problem. Not exactly a good solution, is it?

It was clear though MS updates messed up with the webcam driver - I checked myself at Devices/Imaging there was an update for the driver done exactly when MS updates were done. Unfortunatelly, the rollback option wasnt available.

For that matter, I decided to uninstall the whole Windows KB3176938 and CAPICOM (what ever that is) updates done using Control Panel/Updates but no-go. Next step was to google for that problem which leaded me to other Dell Forum threads pointing to reinstall Webcam Central which also didnt work at all then I bumped into your thread which is about the exact same problem of mine.

I must say I'm quite shocked NOBODY else posted a line here and NOBODY FROM DELL gave any attention to it yet. I can only hope with my post it might drag more attention and the proper reply from Dell.

I'm about to try once more to uninstall and reinstall again Dell Webcam Center and see what happens. The link i found is
ftp.us.dell.com/.../Dell_SX2210-Monitor_Webcam SW RC1.1_ R230103.exe

If it still wont work I shall try a restore point before MS updates and if  the problem persists I will seriously consider to rollback to Windows 7 to give it a try. I don't think paying for support to see if they can fix it or to buy an external webcam are fair solutions at all.

Greetings

Studio XPS 1647 BIOS update

$

Hello people.

I've just discovered that my BIOS is version A00 that's probably been there since manufacture and would like to update it. The download of the last/latest version would appear to be A11, with the caveat being thus:

Product not tested for Windows 10 upgrade

Dell is not testing or developing Windows 10 drivers for this product. If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected.

As i did upgrade to Windows 10 a while back i'm concerned that this may not work and potentially wreck the laptop.

Has anyone tried this? or will it work?

Many thanks for your assistance.
