Inspiron 1545 Black Screen of Death

0
0

My laptop seems to have taken a dirt nap. I have an inspiron 1545 that's just over a year old and will not power completely up when started. I press the power button and the fan comes on as well as the hard drive but the screen remains blank. No dell splash or bios screen whatsover, then a few seconds later it powers itself down. I've tried turning it on with the ac adapter plugged in and on battery power alone but I get the same results. The laptop has not been dropped or exposed to any type of liquids so user fault has been ruled out. I've pulled the had drive and tested it on another machine and it works fine. I hooked it up to and external monitor and got nothing, reseated both the Ram cards individually. Burned through a can of compressed air to make sure their was no excess build up of any sort and still no results. Anyone had a similar issue or any advice as to what I should try next because I am open to any ideas you throw my way. I've also tried slightly pressing down on the ram card during boot hoping to get results and nada again. I'm starting to believe the MOBO may be shot, if someone has the solution this problem please pass it on, thanks.

l702x strange freezing

Hello. My laptop is an xps17 l702x and I'm experiencing weird freezing. Whenever I'm doing something like browsing windows explorer, right-clicking on files and folders, copying, pasting the window itself freezes for a second (except the cursor and other windows). Of course, freezing occurs when browsing the internet as well. When playing games, the freezes sometimes stop the audio even. I reinstalled Windows, updated drivers but nothing has helped. When monitoring with Resource Monitor, there is nothing strange happening there. Also have checked for any malware, but found none.

It's pretty obvious that it's not happening randomly. It occurs only when executing actions (not always, but pretty often). I have not made any major changes, nor installed anything new, the problem gradually showed up. First it happened while playing Skyrim and World of Warcraft, but did not occur in other games. Now it happens everywhere, including Windows.

I have no clue what could be causing this and any help in finding out the culprit will be appreciated.

laptop wont turn on

hi,

i have been using my dell xps 15z for over a year now. I use it primarily for writing long essays and research for University. last summer I used it the whole day writing my research papers, i was tired so i decided to take a nap and left my laptop on the carpet (bad idea!!). when I came back to continue writing and tried to turn it on, it wouldn't. So i figured it is low in battery, of course i charged it. Then i noticed that the little green light on the charger goes off when i plugged it in on the laptop. Figured it was only the outlet so i tried other power source but it does the same, light still goes off and latop wont turn on. Now ive done a little research about overheating and the motherboard getting fried due to overheting but still unsure what's the problem. And no i still havent had it checked out. I know nothing about the technical stuff for laptops/computers, so I really need help!!!!

Studio 1737 no power on

Hi,

I have before me a Studio 1737. When pressing the power button I can hear the slot-in dvd move his reading head, and the leds above the KB quickly flash one after the other from left to right and back again (one time left to right, and one time back).

Then nothing happens. Tried the usual: disconnect batt, powerbutton for 30 secs, reconnect: same problem.

Suggestions are welcome...

Inspiron N5110 Not sure if it is dead or still repairable?

Few days back i fried my laptop. I had connected my ardino uno project board connected to my laptop. I didn't notice that the bread board had short circuit. I tried to power up the circuit and 110V hit the USB port of my laptop. At the same time my AC adaptor was plugged in to the laptop. So the spark was bit heavy.

I quickly disassembled my laptop to see any visual burns but there are none. I tried to check the smell and there are no burnt smell too. N5110 has a seperate board for USB, VGA and DC Jack. Recently i replaced that board for a boken jack.

Luckily i had the old one with me. I replaced the board with old one since the spark happened in that USB port.

Now my computer is trying to boot but it is not booting.

When i press the power button, the power LED turns on, the DVD drive makes a noise, the wifi LED turns on then it shuts off itself. Then again the same repeats... Its kind of going in loop until i remove my battery.

when i connect my A/C adaptor, the batter charging LED turns on..

Its pretty much that the system is trying to boot but something is missing..

I am wondering if any one could help me figure out what could be the problem.

XPS 13 Left USB issue

This issue is discussed in detail at :

http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/os-applications/f/4613/t/19491324.aspx

but no dell representative is around to comment / support.

The main point of failure is:

Some devices do not work well when plugged into the left usb port of Dell XPS 13

Devices that have been tried:

USB3 WD Passport External Hard disk drive - hard drive does not even mount when connected to left USB, whereas it works perfectly on the right USB
Unifying Receiver - mouse does not work  when used around 30cm away. I have tried this with 2 different unifying receiver, and the result is the same. At the right usb, the mouse works perfect

other users have also reported that their android phone does not mount on the left USB but right USB works good.

I have contacted Dell support and had even changed the daughterboard that host the left USB, but the issue remains. I hope Dell can provide a solution to this issue.

Flashing battery LED, not charging

Hello,

I have a 16 month old Dell Inspiron N5110 with a 48Wh 6-cell battery. The battery worked fine until yesterday, lasting up to 2 and a half hours.

Now my laptop won't even turn on without the AC adapter, and the battery LED is constantly flashing 4 times orange, once white, repeat. If I boot up the computer with both the battery and the AC adapter, it says "plugged in, not charging". And if I then unplug the AC adapter it instantly shuts down.

I've never had any overheating problems whatsoever, and like I said, the battery apparently had perfect health until yesterday. I've also checked the AC adapter , which is working fine.

I'm afraid of spending around $120 on a new battery and find out that wasn't the problem at all.

If anyone can help me figure out this issue it'll be much appreciated.

Hello everybody!

A glass of water spilt on the table next to my laptop.  It didn't spill on it directly, but ran under it.  It was off, but plugged in.  Now it won't turn on at all.  What should I check first?

Hi I've been a Dell user for awhile and I have had an Inspiron N5110 for 2 years without problem and today I go to turn it on and it does not turn on. It gave me 7 beeps then 5 beeps afterwards. I'm afraid that it is a processor failure and I need the computer for college courses.

Thank you very much,

Tom

Looking for some help with my Inspiron 1545

So my little brother is going off to college and I was going to surprise him by fixing my old laptop and giving it to him! I have an Inspiron 1545 the model number is a PP41L which as I understand consists of a CCFL screen. The thing about the laptop is the screen is broken and is completely dark when I boot up the computer. I can barely make out the screen so I figure the back light has failed and I need a new screen. I am looking to switch from CCFL to LED which after some research appears to be a fairly simple task, you just need to replace the screen and cord and remove the inverter. I am just writing this to make sure that the parts I am going to be using are compatible and will actually fix the problem!

Here is the screen:

http://www.amazon.com/Glossy-Laptop-Screen-Dell-Inspiron/dp/B003Y3D2JG/ref=pd_bxgy_misc_text_y

And here is the cable converter:

http://www.amazon.com/Inspiron-Video-Cable-0R267J-50-4AQ08-101/dp/B007BHWA4O/ref=reg_hu-rd_add_1_dp

So I guess to sum it up, can this be done and are the parts I have compatible and will fix the problem? If not can you please point me in the right direction? Thank you anyone who reads this and is willing to help! I know my little brother will appreciate it!

Sincerely,

Connor

Inspiron 1545 Black screen with movable cursor after startup

I had my laptop hooked up to my tv through an HDMI cord. My laptop screen was not appearing on my tv so I  right clicked on my desktop and clicked the option to move screen to tv. After that my screen went black and nothing showed up on my tv. My computer was unresponsive so I turned it off and powered back up. My dell loading screen showed up then it went to a black screen with a movable cursor. Again my laptop was unresponsive to everything I tried. I have tried running in safe mode but the screen remains black. I have tried starting at last known good config and still black screen. I have tried hooking it back up to my tv to see if i can get the screen to show up there but again it just gives me the black screen and cursor. At this moment I am running diagnostics and so far all has been good but it is still going. If anyone has an idea of how I can fix this it would be much appreciated! I am a college student and I need my laptop! Thanks!

Laptop becomes unresponsive after being powered on from hibernation mode

Hello, I again am having a problem with my Inspiron N5110 laptop. This time it is when I power on my laptop after it has gone into hibernation mode, after being in sleep mode for over an hour; I have the power settings set to make the computer enter hibernation mode after being in sleep mode for over an hour so, it boots up fine but it seems like it stops becoming responsive. No programs, when launched, open up and when I put my cursor on the task bar, it becomes that familiar spinning icon that indicates it launching or running a particular program tasked. I have sat several minutes waiting for it to respond and open the program(s) I've tasked it to, but nothing happens. I was wondering what could be the problem here and what could be done here to fix it, like a bios update or something?. Thank you to whoever helps!

PS. if it wasn't already known, my laptop runs Windows 7 as it's OS. Also please do share links where I can get various updates if these updates are the solutions, Thanks again!

Update BIOS without battery. Dell Latitude E4200

0
0

hello,

In brief: Battery doesn't charge, empty now, I want to update the BIOS, to see whether this helps. BIOS update is refused without battery.

In greater length:

In January, my Dell Adapter stopped working and I bought an all purpose adapter that worked fine for two months. Then the battery wouldn't charge anymore. The BIOS setup says: communication problem with battery. At startup I get:

“The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available. Please connect a Dell 45W AC adapter or greater for best system performance. To resolve this issue, try to reseat the power adapter Strike the F3 key (before the F1 or F2 key) if you do not want to see power warning messages again. Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility. Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics.”

I am not sure in which order these problems occurred, but it's around the same time.

I am currently at BIOS version A17. The most recent version is A24. If the adapter and the battery are connected, the battery LED flashes 3 times orange and once blue.

First I went to an official DELL repair center (in Peking). They plugged in an original Dell adapter, got the same message at startup and said that I would have to buy a new battery, online as they didn't have it. Then I went to a normal computer repair shop that had different fitting batteries and adapters. The batteries were recognized, but wouldn't charge, as the error about the “AC power adapter wattage” remained, even with Dell adapters. So luckily I didn't just buy a new battery.

So basically it can be a motherboard problem or a software problem that may have been solved by a more recent BIOS version (or maybe by an older version that checks less carefully the adapter).

Before I give up this still nicely running computer, I'd like to try to update/downgrade the BIOS, to see if this might make the computer charge the battery again, as has been suggested many times for different dell computers that stopped charging.

I can get the BIOS to perform the update process with the /forceit /forcetype options, but then, when rebooting, the BIOS update refuses to flash: “The BIOS Update could not be performed because a battery was not present. Press 'Y' to continue”. The option /jabil doesn't seem to work on this BIOS update at it gives the message invalid command line parameters.

I also extracted the hdr file, updated via ubuntu, following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DellBIOS, ending up with the same message at reboot. So I'm still stuck with the old BIOS version.

How can I override that “battery present” rule?

Thanks in advance for any hint or anything else I could try!

Ultrabook XPS13 L321X Hangs during sleep mode

Hi, I have had this ultrabook for 9 months and it works fine except when you put it to sleep.

Once asleep, the ultrabook behaves as it should for about 2 hours with the front white light glowing on and off and when you bring it out of sleep it operates fine.

After two hours or so, the white light comes on hard and the laptop cannot be woken up.  I have to hold down the power button for 10 seconds and fully reboot the system.

If I leave the laptop asleep on battery power, then after about 6-8 hours, the batter is flat too.

This occurs whether the ultrabook is plugged in or on battery power.  I am running Windows 7 Professional 64bit.

There may be something waking it up but I cant find out what it is.

Any help appreciated.

WiFi with Dell Inspiron 1525

Hi community:

I have reinstalled the OS (Windows Vista 32 Bit) with the Reinstallation DVD. Everything seems to be OK except for the wifi. I couldn't manage to get wifi activated. However, with a LAN-cable internet is working. I have already tried all drivers from the dell website however none of them solved the problem. I also know that there is that switch at the front right side of the laptop and wifi is turned on. At least there is this wifi symbol on the screen when moving that switch. I have also installed Dell Quick Set in order to make that switch working.

I really have no clue how to solve that problem. Any ideas from your side?

Thank you so much in advance.

Dell Studio Original 1080p Panel Part Number

Hi guys,

OK so I bought this Dell Studio 1558 from Ebay thinking it had a fully HD monitor.  Well, it turns out that Dell downgraded the later models to 720p.  I've read that it's possible to replace the panel with a 1080p model.

My question is: where can I get the original panel that Dell used in the earlier models?  I want the genuine one and not a compatible one as the original had some really good reviews.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks!
