External USB hard drives sleeping in the middle of use
My XPS laptop, not on battery, has a bad tendency to put my external USB 3.0 hard drives into something like a sleep mode after a time. It's mildly annoying when I go to access them and have to wait for them to wake up, but it's much more problematic that this sleep occurs in the middle of long operations like a big phone sync, or a backup copy (both of which are actively accessing the drive!). I can't find any settings that control this. Anybody have any tips on how I can keep this from happening?

E6510 problem reboot and bios update problem
I have a E6510 notebook . I have a problem to update the bios . Because the notebook has a problem in the POST phase . In fact, if I access the cold pc post BIOS is slow but it works . Instead reboot ( control-alt-delete ) hangs with a flashing light. No other problems . I wanted to try to update the bios from A5 to A9 . but the update is a -executable file that performs the first phase but remains stuck in the reboot . P.S. I do not know other ways of updating and still can not seem to extract the bios files from executable

LAPTOP 7710 EASE OF ACCESS AT REBOOT
Why do I get the an ease of access dialogue at the password entry screen when i reboot? i need it disabled and i want the cursor automatically positioned in the password field ready for me to type - and i want it to do so without having to press numlock key.

Clean Windows 7 reinstall after Windows10 issues - need PowerDVD + other fixes
My laptop, an XPS 17 L702X, was force updated to Windows10 because Microsoft thinks it knows better than the person who owns the machine and sits infront of it all day.
Worse still, this unrequested upgrade occured during a period of Windows7 instability which is why i didn't want any upgrade to Windows10 until well after the issue was sorted.
The system HDD was bitlocker encrypted, via using a USB thumb drive to unlock at boot time, from the day this laptop was purchased. This made the problems i had even more complex to resolve.
What seemed to occur, was a merging of "os instability" combined with a "Windows10 upgrade" combined with "Windows 10 update" which borked the machine. The end result was that i was locked out of my laptop and looking at a Orange Screen Of Death with no options to move forward.
After much web searching, i gave up. I managed to decrypt the HDD on another system but in the process i found many bad clusters on the HDD by performing a chckdsk (which mapped these bad clusters for non use). I must say i don't really trust the HDD any more.
When reinstalling the decrypted HDD into the laptop, i could get past the OSOD issues, however the system was unusable as the screen would flash uncontrollably once logged into the user account. More web surfing did not yeild helpful information. Since the laptop was not usable in this state, i was at the end of the rope so to speak.
Time for a clean reinstall on a second HDD.
Reinstalling Windows 7 Ultimate from my USB stick is a simple enough process and the laptop is now working well. However, i have some things to resolve but the one thing that has me stumped is:
* Where can i download the Cyberlink PowerDVD software that originally came with my system so i can continue to play my BD's on my laptop?
I have a "My Downloads" account with Dell, but i can't find any links to such 3rd party software. I'm not even sure whether i linked this (laptop) invoice with this account on Dell, it was some time ago...
In reality it would have been much simpler for me had Dell shipped PowerDVD in the same way it shipped "McFee SecurityCenter", "Roxio Creator Starter" and "Soundblaster X-FiMB ".
Speaking of that later disk, Soundblaster XF-i install works but Ceative oddly tells me i don't have an XF-iMB on my laptop when i try to configure the audio device using this application. All this despite that such hardware being listed in the original configuration as delivered!. The other oddity is that the only touch sensitive button that does not work is the "Waves Maxx Audio3" where Quickset states "Please install the audio driver before using this button" when this button is touched! And no audio devices have yellow bungs within device manager?
So any hints on where to find a PowerDVD link and how to resolve the XF-i issue?

XPS 15 9550 - fan always on while charging
Hello friends,
since i purchased my 9550 fhd / i7 / 16gb / 512gb Toshiba i always have the problem that the fan is running @ ~ 2500rpms while charging the battery. The cpu is under no load. Drivers are all up to date. Bios 1.2.10 (newest bios has problems with charging...)
It is independent of the bios charging modes. System cooling policy is passive (on battery) and active (plugged in). Switching these doesn't change anything - as soon as the battery is charging albeit the cpu/system usage the fan is kicking in. It gets quite annoying, i only tolerated it because i thought in would be fixed in the near future.
I read through quite a few threads/posts with the same problem - but most are months old and/or with suggestions/fixes i already tried.
I had the same problem with usb c - also a well known problem. Currently i don't have an usb c device so i can't test if this problem still exists.
Is there any known fix? Or is it just designed that way and all 9550 users have to suffer under these problems?

HDMI audio problem with D3100
I am trying to connect my JMB TV to my Dell Inspiron 7559 through the D3100 docking station. I have a picture but no audio. TRhere is no HDMI option in the Windows 10 sound device manager. When I connect the TV directly into the laptop I have no problem with audio.

Inspiron 15R 5520 Strange Problem
Hi,
My laptop is DELL Inspiron 15R 5520 and i bought it 3 years ago and it was performing nice but recently i got a problem with my laptop and i hope someone can identify the problem and help me to solve it.
The problem is that my laptop makes 1 beep per second whenever i press the power button and i had to hold the power button to turn the laptop off and the same thing continues 3-4 times before it eventually powers up and boots into Windows like normal. I was able to run ePSA diagnostics and it found no problems and from Windows i was able to run a test on the motherboard using Support Assistant program which i downloaded from DELL website but the test result is Passed. It seems that my laptop won't boot into Windows from the first try but it will beep and fail to boot for a number of times and after multiple tries it boots into Windows like it should. Can someone tell me what is the real reason behind this and how to solve this problem ?

Factory Image Restore - How???
I have a Latitude E5550. I want to restore it to Factory state. The online documentation provided is not correct and Dell support was unable to provide guidance. It appears that there is a factory recovery image on the system, but I cannot figure out how to launch it.
According to the documentation:
Reinstall Windows 10 to the Dell factory image using the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)
If you would like to reset your computer to the Dell factory image as it was originally shipped, including Dell factory-installed apps and software, follow these steps:
- At the desktop, click the Search the web and Windows box and type "reset".
- Select Reset this PC (System Setting).
- Under Advanced Startup, select Restart now.
- At the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot.
- Select Factory Image Restore.

The problem is there is no "Factory Image Restore" option on the Troubleshoot page.
If I select "Reset this PC", I only get the standard Windows 10 "keep my files" or "remove everything".
Support suggested selecting keep my files "might be the option".
Does anyone know how to really return the system to complete Factory state, other than by downloading an image, creating a USB boot drive, and then reinstalling?
Is it possible to launch the OEM recovery partition on this system?
Thanks for any advice - Dell support was most unhelpful.

Dell upgrade package failed to install dell wifi driver

Since I reinstalled Window8 in my inspiron 3138, the laptop cannot install 'dell upgrade package' and cannot setup my wifi driver.
I cannot install following drivers and the laptop cannot detect wifi at all.
Dell Wirelss 1704 Wifi driver (Network_driver_342TP_WN32_7.35.333.0_A01)
Dell Airplane mod switch driver (Network_driver_PX8MM_WN64_1.0.0_A00)
Do you know how to solve this problem?

Graphics Amplifier and New Nvidia 372.54 drivers issues
Hi, this is an issue with Alienware Graphics Amplifier. I have the nvidia GTX 1070 and downloaded the latest nvidia 372.54 drivers. However, there was performance issue and the frame rates for games have dropped. Specifically, Rise of the Tomb Raider running at 1440p has dropped to 55fps on average.
I have since rolled back the drivers to the previous nvidia 368.81 drivers and the frame rates have gone back up to 70. Anyone having the same issue?

Have Inspiron 17R SE 7720 with 32 GB mSata. What was the purpose of that?
For use as cache I cannot see a way (no RAID drivers inside) and for OS is too small.
What was the primiry idea for this hardware-how to use it optimally?

Is there a list of all CPU's supported by the E6420? I know it's only Sand Bridge chips, but is it all or only a few? Looking at putting an i7 in but need to know what to start shopping for. I know some will need a better power adapter already.

Dell Inspiron n7110 17r wont turn on
I have a n7110 17r, i got it used so there is no warranty on it. I got it around February of this year. Then one day around May the screen stopped working but the fan and everything else worked still. I decided to take it apart to see if the cable to the screen was on correctly but then when I put it back together nothing started working and there are no lights except for the Windows mobility center button (the one with 2 gears on it). It lights up as soon as i plug in the charger in the laptop with no battery or if the battery has some charge and I push the power button. Is there a way to fix this or is this laptop dead?

Wifi-Switch is either disabling my internet or going in airplane mode
How can I fix this? When the side switch is in the "Off" position, my laptop is in Airplane mode and refuses to leave. When the switch is in the "On" position, I am told that the internet access is disabled due to the switch being turned off. I have tried disabling the switch in bios and this did not work. I do not know any potential solutions.

Inspiron N5050 Bluetooth Not Working

last Month I purchased Dell Inspiron N5050 Second generation Laptop, But after bringing it at home when i checked for bluetooth to connect it to my mobile , I didn't find it anywhere. I also installed Driver but it's not working.
