XPS 12 (9q33) wifi failing

$

My beloved xps 12 has an issue where after heavy wifi usage (Netflix or streaming games over steam) it will fail after a while. Sometimes an hour or two, sometimes  a bit less. The first thing that happens is that it looses internetconnectivity. Then it seems to fail and "go offline". I see the wifi icon change to a lan icon...

Rebooting will cause the machine to hang, and I have to hold the power button down so turns off manually.

After the powercycle it works like it should again.

seems to me that the hardware is failing. I have the newest drivers.

This problem started this summer.

Any tips?

Dell XPS 13 restarts when waking up from sleep

As of yesterday, if I put my Dell XPS 13 9350 (Windows 10) to sleep and wake it up again, it boots up from scratch, applications complain that they were forced to quit with unsaved files, etc.

It seems this specifically occurs if I unplug or plug in the power cable while the laptop is asleep. E.g. if it's plugged in, I put it to sleep, I unplug the power and then wake it up, it restarts. I'm fairly sure it occurs whether I put it to sleep by closing the lid, using the power button, or using the Start menu.

I assume this is due to some update Dell Update made a couple of days ago, but I don't know what it was.

I've since updated drivers from the Dell site, uninstalled video drivers (which fixed this problem for someone else on this site), and specifically checked that the battery-related drivers are up to date, but none of this helped.

Any suggestions?

Windows update always break wifi on my XPS 13 9350 (Dell 1820A), any solution?

I'm not sure whether this is a hardware issue, driver issue, or possibly a windows 10's bug causes conflict with 1820A

I got this laptop exaclt a month ago, it is windows 10 preinstalled

Everthing works fine, except my wifi is giving me some trouble

Whenever there comes a windows update that requires reboot, wifi got disabled as if the wireless card is not detected from PC

It would just show a red X mark on the wifi icon

and if I click on it, there's no enable / disable option; same happens in the settings, wifi submenu is nowhere to be found

Then I head into device manager, and believe it or not there is no wireless adapter at all

At first I thought the wireless card is dead, but after some long research on the web it seems more likely to be just driver-related issue. Turns out that I would have to delete the driver (unhide devices appears wireless adapter), restart the PC, and reinstall driver manually from device manager

Wifi is temporarily functional again using this workaround, but it is also getting very frustrating that I have to repeat all these steps once in a while and I can't enjoy using it like a normal laptop.

This doesn't occur on any of my previous laptop which have windows 10 too, so I'm really suspecting it must either be broadcom not providing a proper driver, or dell using faulty hardware.

If anyone here has the same issue / knows a permanent solution, please reply to this post. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Dell Inspiron 5558 drifting cursor

I understand that there is no specific driver for the precision trackpads on these laptops (only the generic Windows driver), but the drifting cursor is driving me crazy. I've tried all different mouse & touchpad settings and updated my laptop to Windows 10 Anniversary edition, but the cursor still moves on its own when I browse websites (Chrome)..

Is there anything else I can try to get a normal trackpad that only moves when I do?

NEW dell inspiron 7000 - Does not connect to internet (wifi issues, AND driver power state failure on restrat

Hi

Please assistance with this unfortunate case. I have a BRAND NEW dell inspiron 13, 7000 series. Had not been in use for more than 3 days...

I have problems connecting with the WIFI (although all other devices in my apartment connect smoothly to the router). WIFI button does not turn, switch refuses to move to ON. Red X on the wifi network at the right hand bottom corner...

I have read some articles suggesting to go the device manager, network adapter and update driver, but when I expand network adapter I only have 2 Bluetooth devices listed. Nothing about WIFI.... please HELP!!

Second issue - tried to reboot several times as the laptop did connect to the internet for 2 minutes on reboot. All times, reboot fails and I get the following message: Driver Power State Failure.

Please, I hope you can help me with this awful experience with Dell laptop.

Runaway character entry

I have a Dell 13 7347 which does suffer from the 'Ghost touch' problem a bit. I have turned off the Touch screen in the device manager and that fixes it.

However, over the past 3 month the laptop develops a problem with runnaway charracter entry. I thought it was the touch screen but now I am not so sure. It was so bad that I did a clean install of the anniversary release - I was using the various insider releases for the previous months.

I thought it was fixed, but it has just started again. It is very difficult to identify the root cause as it happens in a number of applications.

The problem is:

1. The mouse becomes very sluggish and is difficult to move around with touch pad.

2. Right click on the task bar does nothing - ie no tool bar menu or can open the start menu

3. In notepad or any text document including forum posts, entering an 'Enter' will result is x100s of entries slowly adding to the previous. Esc will stop it.

4. Typing search queries into IE, random spaces are added to the text eg 'wh er e is my n  ew car ?'

5. The sign-on screen is Greyed Out 'OK', and Esc and Enter and a few Left click eventually give the Pin Box to fill in.

6. The document/apps open that were used recently randomly open continuously.

7. Opening a .Jpg in Irfanview ( a nice picture viewer) works until you use enter full screen mode ( an 'Enter' key) when is just opens multiple images of the same and flicks between full screen and view mode.

8. Trying text into an email (I use Windows Live Mail as I need an off live client) does the same as Notepad. You have to keep hitting Esc to stop the CR's.

After clearing 'junk' with the Disc Clean Up (and system) and CCleaner and several reboots it will settle down and be completely normal. This is a fresh install only 2 days, I have run a Malwarebyes scan and found nothing. I have also run SFC /scannow, and found nothing.

Ihave now swapped the SSD to the original HDD which I had removed almost immediately so apart from some migration and back up s/w it is as supplied.   The laptop boots with exatly the same problem as the SSD, and has all the same problems.   I therefore conclude it must be in the hardware or bios.
The bios is the latest from Dell, so it must be the laptop itself.

I would appreciate any help on further troubleshooting as the PC is unusable with the problem.

Thanks

Unable to install Windows 10

Hello, please help.

I have recently bought a new dell vostro 15 3000 series, service tag: 2BB0Q72. Naturally it comes with linux ubuntu istalled.

As I am a student I have access to free microsoft products so I downloaded windows 10 and created a bootable usb drive with the poweriso

In the boot sequence i have changed to legacy and put usb option to top and the installation started. After I have chosen the language the next step should be to choose the disk on which i want to install windows but that does not happen.

I get an error message saying I am missing a media driver that could be a dvd, usb or hard disk driver and that if I have a cd,dvd or usb with that driver i should insert it.

I have searched for drivers for this laptop and downloaded and extracted them on the same usb where the windows are and when i got the same error i tried to browse to them but none of them were shown.

I have tried a few other solutions: redownloading the windows file, trying to change the usb port, trying to change the usb it self, formating to FAT32. None worked

Please I have already lost my nerves by wasting more than a few days on this

Thank you

Hi Guys,

I have a clients Vostro 3750.

If I leave the ram in it and turn on - the buttons over top right opposite power button light up in sequence, I get 1 beep then the system dies.

However if I take out the Ram and turn on -  the buttons over top right opposite power button light up in sequence, I get 2 beeps ( No RAM?? )  .. BUT the system stays on, nothing on the screen however.

I have heard that 1 beep might indicate motherboard borked BUT with no Ram the machine does stay on. I would have thought if the board was dead the system wouldnt stay on.

Any thoughts??

Dell 7720 SE Laptop Bios Corruption Help

Hello,

I have a Dell laptop 7720 which has worked well for years. However, last week i tried to turn it on and it got to the Dell bios and stopped. So after a few minutes, i removed the power, waited, plugged it back in again and tried again.

Now it boots to a black screen. There is no spinup from HDD or CDROM, no fans either, no beeps either.

I can make it beep if i remove the memory sticks, and I can press D when it starts and the screen goes though its check but then ends and just sits there

So, my thinking is i have a corrupt bios. Okay easy enough to fix...... or so I thought.

I have downloaded the recent 7720A16.exe file, extracted the BIOS.rom from this.

I have then put it onto a 2 GB stick which i have tried formatting as FAT and FAT32.

I then do the usual remove battery, remove power. Stick in USB port (I have tried all 4 of them) and whilst holding down the END key, plug it back in again. The USB is read and then stops and i am stil left with a blank screen and nothing happens, despite this method being posted in many places for fixing a corrupt bios. I have tried also including dosflash with it, and the phonexic crysis USB disk (although this asks for BIOS.WPH not a *.CAP one)

So, what do i do please? What am i doing wrong?

I am normally very geeky and have fixed many other peoples pcs and tablets so i cant see what i am doing wrong here.

Many thanks

OEM SSD diagnostic

Hello!

In my m7510 I have PM951 NVMe SSD, which I was told is OEM version of PM950. Just because of that retail software by Samsung does not recognize that drive and tell no diagnostic about it.

What is supposed tool to check the health and status of that drive?

Oprimum setup for the secondary SSD

Hello!

In my m7510 I have primary SSD installed on factory and that is PM951 NVMe. Perhaps due to specific of that drive SATA mode is set to RAID in the BIOS. Lated I have added extra SSD drive to the empty hdd bay, namely Sumsung 850 EVO. Samsung Magician software tells it operates in non-optimum conditions because of AHCI is not enabled. In other thread where I was asking about the way to switch to AHCI I was told to not do so. I have googled for NVMe benefits and it seems the suggestion was right, having NVMe one would not like to run it in AHCI.

However, the question open remains: is there any chance to make better operation condition (like AHCI) to the secondary drive, having primary one in its native mode?

Thanks in advance.

What's the highest resolution Dell laptop that can run Windows 7?

What is the best quality Dell laptop that will still run Windows 7, but has the most crisp, Retina-type display?    The small 13 inch XPS have a matte finish, are there any with an Ultra HD screen that I can still run windows 7 on?

Any help would be TREMENDOUSLY appreciated.  I have one specific work thing I spend a LOT of time on, and it only runs on Windows 7 or older, otherwise I'd get a newer laptop, mac, or anything else.  But since Dell is my favorite, and I've seen the UHD displays, I'm hoping there's a version going back a little that might still run Windows 7.    Thanks!

After logging in a black screen show up with my mouse visable, Then out of a sudden I have to login again but then everything is scaled a lot bigger. After the login my laptop is frozen at a grey screen. I think It's a problem with the nvidea graphic card drivers. Can anyone help me fix this ? Thanks for paying time to my problem.

USB-C on Inspiron 13 7368 INCOMPATIBLE with USB-C on XPS

I bought online from DELL Hong Kong Inspiron 13 7368 (working well) ; DELL DA200 adapter USB-C to HDMI/VGA/Etehrnet/USB 3.0 and DELL Active Pen (order #810757967).

The laptop does not recognize the DA200 adapter with or without a driver.

The authorized services in China cannot help.

I tested the laptop's USB-C port with other adapters (to VGA, to RJ-45), and it works well. I tested the DA200 adapter on XPS-12 and XPS-13, and it also works well.

The sales assistants told me the DA200 is sold together with XPS-12.

The DA200 adapter is INCOMPATIBLE with Inspiron 7368.

Questions:

1. Is the USB-C on Inspiron 7368 not a real USB-C?

2. Can I use the USB-C on Inspiron 7368 for charging the laptop?

3. Why is the USB-C on the DA200 NOT COMPATIBLE with the USB-C on the Inspiron? How many variations of USB-C are out there? What should I take care when buying a USB-C adapter?

4. How can I return the accessories I bought and have a refund?
