I recently purchased a used Inspiron 7348 2 in 1 (tag #<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>), which had a depot warranty until November of 2016. A few months in I noticed that the battery would not charge. I notified Dell support and they logged into my system remotely. Their conclusion was that the motherboard was faulty and that I needed to send it in for repair. Before I did that, the representative verified that my purchase was valid and then proceeded to transfer the warranty from the previous owner to me.

I received a box with a prepaid shipping label. I packaged it up and proceeded to mail it. I was contacted by dell shortly after the system arrived at the depot with the following e-mail:

"The following information relates to your recent interaction with Dell Technical Support. Service Request Number <ADMIN NOTE: service request number removed per privacy policy>

Our record shows that  depot has received the wrong system and has different tag. You have contacted us for 82CRD32 however depot has received the different system. Please check the details and let us know if you have sent different system to depot."

I have found out since that the system they are accusing me of mailing to the depot is tag #<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>. The system is the same but it has a lesser processor, and my laptop had an aftermarket ssd drive installed. After several calls, e-mails and chat sessions, my only option is to have the wrong laptop sent back to me. Furthermore they will not repair the wrong laptop since it is not registered under my name, nor will they tell me what is wrong with it. They cannot even verify the account username on the laptop in question.

The bottom line is that Dell has lost my laptop. To add insult to injury, they are mailing me back a lesser system that does not belong to me, and does not function properly. I hope someone can help me with this.

Hi!
On my inspironu 1521, when the power is on only a black screen (do not even get to the BIOS), the fan is operating but none of the signaling LED lamps do not light up. I've tried removing the WLAN Card, CMOS battery, RAM. Unless you remove both RAM, flash me right and medium-sized LED flashlight, while left off.
Please advise what could be wrong?

P.S. This occurred after I did pasword recovery in the User Account, then I could do some work with the admin account, and since then it happens.

Best regards

Battery not present issue on Inspiron 3543

I've recently started receiving 'Battery not present' message on my Inspiron 3543. The device works completely fine at times without any issue but then suddenly would start displaying this message. What strikes me is that even as it displays this message, the laptop continues to be in a working condition, except the blinking X mark on the battery bar and the blinking LED at front. Shouldn't the laptop shut down all by itself if it fails to detect a battery? While displaying this message, the laptop also fails to take any charge from the adapter but as soon as this message is gone, the charging process begins without me having to do anything. Is there a solution to this problem?

hello dell pc users

I wanted to enable vt-x because it was enabled on BIOS but it wasn't in Windows 7. I did a research and found that I could use bcdedit.exe /set nx {current} always on to enable it.

I dit it from cmd and restarted the pc, now it is enabled but then I saw something weird:

  1. AVAST ANTIVIRUS CANNOT START HIS SERVICE working but is fixed by removing some files but I can't reinstall it.

  2. I can't install any antivirus and the error says `A Device Attached and Not functioning (any device are enabled) so any are enabled

  3. my pc is inspiron 5558 so if you want to know

My Dell Experience

I have always been a big fan of Dell's business class laptops and even more so of their pro support.  They have always been wonderful.  As a small business owner who works in the computer field, my laptop in my main tool and it essential to servicing my clients and operating my company.  As a result, I have always depended on the reliability of Dell products and support and they had never let me down in almost 20 years.

Until this month.  Maybe it was just bound to happen or maybe Dell is just not what it used to be.  I am not sure.

I am in need of replacing an aging Dell laptop and ordered a top of the line Precision laptop with all the bell's and whistles.  A very expensive machine.  A sales rep was very helpful in assisting me with my order and it arrived fairly quickly.  I was pleased.

Until that is I turned it on and the Windows 10 OS was corrupted upon setup.  I tried to use the Windows 10 functionality to start the setup over several times but the same issue each time.  I suppose I should have just returned the machine then and there for a full refund and ordered a new one.  However, I figured no bug deal I would just call support and have them re-image it.  I had not installed anything on it yet so no big deal and a corrupt copy can happen.  So they mailed me a box with return label and I mailed them the laptop.  A few days later I got the laptop back and the issue was resolved.

However, now the system no longer had RAID 0 configured as ordered.  So once again I should have just returned the machine for a full refund and started over.  However, I again agreed to let Dell fix it.  No big deal as I still had not loaded any applications or data on the machine.  So again they sent me a box and I mailed them the unit back.  A few days later I got the unit back.

However, not the unit has Windows 7 installed and is setup for a Dell Support User upon startup.  I once again call Dell.  They provide me with instruction to upgrade it to Windows 10.  I refuse.  If i order a brand new car and it does not come with doors on it, it is not acceptable to me for the dealer to had me the doors and  step by step instructions on how to install them myself.

So I offer to sent the computer back to Dell and let them try to fix it again.  However at this point I expect some compensation. If not for me trouble then at least for consideration that at this point I still do not have the system I ordered and my expensive warranty and support I paid for is clocking away.  Dell indicates that they cannot do that and to return it and reorder.

So now we initiate a return, but too much time has passed.  Dell reps have assured me I will still get a full refund but that it has to go through some process to get returned.  I have not been waiting a week to get an RMA to return it with no resolution in site.

If someone from Dell is listening, CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS NIGHTMARE?  I seem to be stuck in limbo.

For other Dell customers, is Dell just not the company it used to be or is this just an aberration?  I need to determine who I am going to use as my vendor going forward.

Office Starter 2010 and Windows 10

Hi everyone,

I have recently upgraded my XPS 14Z from Windows 7 to Windows 10.  However, now none of my Office Starter 2010 programs will load.  No message, just the rotating circle mouse icon for a few seconds then nothing.  Trying to 'modify' the office installation in Control Panel gets the same response.  I might be abel to uninstall, but where would I re-install from and would I need a product key?

Thanks for any tips.

xps 13 2015 SD Card reader only works with 1 adaptor

I had my SD card reader replaced last December because it wouldn't work and wasn't recognised by the computer. I thought it was working, but I recently got a new SD card (micro) with an adaptor. The computer won't recognize the card when I use the new adaptor. If I use my old PNY adaptor it works fine. I have tried several adaptors now, and only the PNY adaptor works. All of the adaptors work fine in my son's xps 13 computer.

Can someone tell me why some perfectly good adaptors work and others don't?

Inspiron 11-3152 default boot changing to Diskette Drive, then won't boot

I bought a new Inspiron 11-3152 which came with a 128 GB SSD.  I upgraded it with a SanDisk 240 GB SSD and when installing the new OS I turned off the UEFI.  That is, in the BIOS menu for BOOT, I have:

Boot List Option:  Legacy

Secure Boot: Disabled

Load Legacy Option ROM: Enabled

PROBLEM:  The system is on its own changing boot options.  Specifically, 1st Boot Priority is always set to Diskette Drive.  If I change it to Hard Drive, then Exit with Save Changes and Reset, it will boot normally.  But when I shut down and boot up again, the system will fail to load, sitting at a blinking cursor.  If I go into the setup menu with F2, I find that 1st Boot Priority has been changed back to Diskette Drive.  Also, Fast Boot is always switched to Enabled.

I have never heard of anything like this in 20 years of using computers.  How can BIOS settings change themselves on reboot?  Is there any way to fix this?  The computer works fine other than having to go into the boot menu with F12 and change from Diskette Drive to Hard Drive on every boot.  Any ideas how to fix this?

The current SSD has linux on it but I have the Windows 10 that the computer came with untouched on the factory SSD.

My Dell 24 Inspiron 24 from the Shopping Channel arrived and they said it would come with something that would take all my present  pc information and transfer it to the Inspiron. I don't see anything in all the instructions that does this. Can you smarter  people out there help me, (the new at this person) to transfer all my data please? I'm at a loss.

Thank you

General questions re: Latitude D830 laptop

I have recently acquired a refurbished Dell Latitude D830 laptop. It has Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3 installed. In general, I am very pleased with it. It is my first laptop. There are some questions that I have concerning the machine.
The first question concerns the DVD-RW drive. According to its properties, it is called a HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GSA T11N. When I purchased the laptop, I believed that the drive was capable of writing DVDs and CDs. I now see it is a read-only drive. Can I replace this with a DVD and CD writer? If so, what specifically do I search for in the way of a replacement?
The second question I have concerns the wireless adapter. This is a Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card Rev 2.0. It works fine except in one instance. I can watch YouTube videos in 480p Resolution or less all night long with no problem but if I try to watch high definition videos, that is 720p or higher, after about 20 minutes I find myself disconnected from my Wi-Fi signal and I'm not able to repair the connection. I can reboot the computer and regain the connection. This is extremely consistent.
Finally, I went to the Dell support page and allowed it to scan the machine and detect available updates. There are 11 recommended updates including one bios update, eight drivers, one firmware and two application updates. I have experience updating applications and even a driver or two but never a firmware update or a bios update. How much damage can I cause? I have a current image made by Norton Ghost of both partitions on the hard drive. Will this cover me in case of a problem?

My latitude e6230 does not boot - not even till dell logo

My laptop does is not booting now, all of a sudden, after it went for a reset with some igdmk64.sys error/failure.

When I press the power button, the HDD LED just blinks once briefly and there is no further activity. I presume it is not even loading the bios (as I dont see anything on the screen).

I tried the static discharge step (remove battery & power adapter, hold power for 20-30 sec, put back adapter and try power button wt fn key to enter diagnostics OR put battery & adapter and try poer button to see led etc - but no success).

When I put the battery & power adapter and press the power on button, the HDD LED blinks for a moment (and goes off permanently) and the Power LED stays on forever.  There is no further action of any sort.  The LED status is as follows (after that initial HDD LED flash):
HDD LED; OFF
Power LED: ON / SOLID
Wireless LED: OFF

What is the way forward to make this lappie boot up now? Pl. suggest the approach/steps.

Cheers

Dell inspiron se-7520 fan doesn't pass 1200 rpm

So, as the title says, I tried using speed fan to manually configure the fan speed but it doesn't react. I know it can go past 1200 rpm as it does so when I start the laptop (turning it on from an off state).

Someone suggested I update my chipset and as it turns out there was an update, the file provided by your website was called Chipset_Driver_HDFHF_WN_8.0.1.1399_A01, but it doesn't let me install it, about a third in the install process it says that it can't launch a necessary application and quits, saying the install was successful.

Here is the log. ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME.

How can I locate the Windows Product key on repaired Win 8 laptop?

$

Not sure yet what was replaced/repaired on my daughters laptop--we are waiting to hear back from the repair service the warranty company used. Booting up her repaired laptop we are being asked for the Windows Key. Windows came pre-loaded. No disc, No sticker. Supposedly key is in bios. How do we locate it or what do we enter?  I had included the Dell recovery discs I made just before I sent it for repair (as requested), so I assumed everything would be reloaded and ready to go when we received it back.

I tried contacting Dell through their facebook  page and was told because it is out of warranty that I will need to purchase a new OS disc. What?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Chromebook 11 3120 battery draining when supposedly off - and beeps when in "developer mode"

Earlier this year I bought a Chromebook 11 3120 and I have been greatly disappointed with its battery life as even when shutdown it drains the battery!

Is this normal behavior for a Chromebook?

I don't think so...

Even though it takes >10 hours to drain the battery from full charge it is rather annoying having to plug the thing in each day when with the little use it gets it should last a week or more without needing a recharge.

Also, if I enable developer mode, the thing emits a random "beep! beep!" when supposedly shutdown/switched off, which leads me to believe it is faulty and not actually powering down and staying down.  The beeps are the same as when booted in developer mode and left 30 seconds as it is the warning that OS verification is disabled.

When the normal ChromeOS is restored (by either doing a full recovery or simply pressing the space bar at the warning screen when booting), the beeping does not occur, but the battery still drains when the thing has been shutdown.

Does anyone else with a Dell Chromebook experience similar issues?
