N5110 not shut down complete

0
0

I am running N551 with Win 8.1 prof. I have not sure what I did. It is now not shutting down complete. When I do a shut down (settings/Power/Shutdown), the OS shuts down, screen turned off. But the power light is still on. I waited 15 minutes and shut it down completely by holding the power button until it turns off.  My power option for the power button is SHUT DOWN.

If I use the restart option instead of shut down, it works (i.e. the OS will shutdown and restart with no problem.

Any advise on where I go from here ?

Inspiron 5547 laptop right side hinge problem

I bought this laptop in November 2014. For the last few days I was hearing a click sound whenever I open the laptop. And today also I heard the click sound but while closing the laptop I found the right corner edge is popped open. I contacted Dell Support for this issue and explained them what happened. They told me that this is a damage happened on the laptop and I am not covered by accidental damage coverage. So I have to pay for this one to be fixed. I explained them that I’m using this laptop as everyone else does like opening a laptop to work on it and closing it when am done with my work. But no use, I was told this is beyond warranty I have to pay $160 and wait at least 12 working days to get it fixed.

As this problem has been faced by many customers and this is a manufacturing defect basically, dell should repair it for free.

Support Under Warranty - What do you think?

Morning,

I am just wondering what anyone would have done in a case like mine outlined below?

I purchased a Dell 15-3555 Inspiron on March 4th, 2016 with the basic warranty, 1 year with send back to repair depot option.

3 mornings ago turned on the laptop and it immediately went to a black screen.  Yep immediately when turned on, you do not get to the BIOS loading and the Dell logo.  The black screen appears within 1-2 seconds after pressing the power on button.

The error appearing on the black screen is: "No boot media device detected, check the connection cables and reseat the device.  If this message persists, contact the manufacturer."

Two mornings ago I called Dell tech support and ended up in the India support call center.  After 2 hours of testing, most of the time lost as at every step I was put on hold for 10-12 minutes and advised I will get back to you after I check my other resources.  Finally 2 hours later I requested to speak to the reps manager who can on the line.  He advised me he needs to obtain the Dell diagnostic error code, but I told him that is what we have been trying to do for the past 2 hours.  The diagnostic routine would not run to completion without the laptop turning itself off or lock up, thus starting the diagnostics all over again ... again .... and again.

Then I was told that without the Dell diagnostic error code there was nothing further that can be done and when I do get the error code call back.  I tried for over 2 hours after this call, but I could not as either the process locked up of the laptop rebooted itself.

That same evening I called back into Dell tech support and this time ended up in the Philippines support call center.  The Setup options were reset and the system rebooted only to have the same black screen error.  The rep now facing this advised me the laptop will have to go back to the Dell repair depot for repairs and provided me the dispatch number and case #.  She said an email would follow shortly with shipping instructions and a shipping label.  This never came.

The following morning, July 17th I called back into the Dell support group and again ended up in the Philippines call center.  I got another rep who advised me the dispatch had been cancelled and no warranty work could proceed as no Dell diagnostic error code number was provided and the issue was classified as a software issue and had nothing at all to do with hardware.

I went through all the testing done the day before with India and he stated that case # was cancelled so we have to start and perform all the testing again.  4 hours later it came to the same end result.  We did after 4 hours get the Dell diagnostics to complete, but it showed no error code and said testing successful. The laptop still immediately went to the black screen when powered on.

at this point . . .I sent emails off to my Dell sales reps here in Canada and as well into Dell's executive complaint group on this one.  The sales folks here in Canada did refer my concerns off to a fellow who called me and said he would look into this and ensured me this would not happen again.

I had strongly argued the full retesting and advised the support rep that an immediate black screen 1-2 seconds after powering on with no BIOS screen and Dell log appearing and already checking that the BIOS setting were correct, well there are only a few thinks that could cause this.

I advised the tech that in a case like this the only possibilities are. . .

a)  The motherboard is defective.

b)  The hard drive is defective.

c)  Or both a) and b) above.

With the tech still on the phone we went into Setup and ensured the BIOS was set back to factory defaults again and that had been done at least 4 times prior to this with other support reps.  He asked to dismantle the laptop and pull out the hard drive and reseat it as that is what the black screen error message was advising had to be done.  I was advised this was required in order to know what the real issue is.  Unfortunately on the Dell 15 Inspiron the keyboard has to come out, the keyboard ribbon cable detached.  The top assembly removed.  The laptop then turned over and all bottom casing screws removed and finally the bottom casing detached.  So I did all this and reseated the hard drive and reassembled the laptop.  After rebooting it, still the same black screen with exactly the same error.

In the middle of all of this I also downloaded the Dell factory OS image for this laptop's tag number and prepped a bootable 8 GB USB memory stick.  As expected, as soon as it tried to touch the hard drive, the reinstall froze up totally.  No error message just locked up the laptop.  Trying to reinstall from a Windows 10 install DVD, same scenario as soon as it tried to do anything on the hard drive, in this case I immediately receive and I/O error and the reinstall fails.

I was given another case number, but with the comment from the rep ... "With no Dell diagnostic error code there still could be the chance this dispatch will get cancelled!"

I was advised again an email would follow shortly with shipping instructions and shipping label.  Now 1 full day has passed and nothing has been sent to me about shipping back the laptop.

I called back into the Dell support center today around 11:00AM and apparently the hold up now, this case is under review by the dispatch center in the US.  I was told that this case still shows notations this is a software issue, so that is why the dispatches keep getting cancelled.  The view is that since no diagnostic error message can be provided or sensed, then there is no hardware issue; hence there is no reason to send this unit back for repairs.

To make a very long and painful store short, after now 12 hours in total dealing with 5 different people within Dell tech support, I still am sitting in limbo.

Now come the kicker on this one . . . I am a Dell register partner and sell and provide maintenance to Dell business customers across my geographic area here in northern Canada.  I have heard many horror stories from some of my customers about support problems they encountered, but this is the first time I personally have gotten into something as poorly handled as this one.

So this afternoon I pulled a new 500 GB 2.5 inch Sata laptop hard drive off my shelf that comes with an Inpiron 15-3555 laptop, dismantled the laptop and installed the new hard drive.  Stuck in the same bootable memory stick with the Windows 10 OS on it that froze 100% of the time under this same laptop with the old hard drive in it.  Now reinstallation of Windows10 went just fine.  So now I have the laptop up and running 100% on my workbench behind me.  Boots up and shows activated since I used the Dell Windows 10 .ISO image for this laptop downloaded from Dell.  No drivers to install, nothing else to do.

I am of course out $59.95 for one new 500 GB, 5400 Sata 2.5 inch hard drive and 15 minutes to reinstall the Windows 10 operating system.  The bad news is the enormous time I spent within 2 different Dell support call centers.  Mega time was spent and wasted on something that was very obvious to anyone that knows anything at all about computer hardware. If I was in charge of this I sure would be concerned about the hours and hours of time spent by Dell support staff not to mention the frustration level that practices that I see being applied would inflict on anybody calling in for support.  Yikes this was almost unbelievable.

MY QUESTION TO DELL SUPPORT HAS TO ME THE FOLLOWING ONE . . .

"How can a black screen advising of a "boot media detection failure", one or two seconds after powering on a laptop; ever be classified as an operating system software issue?  This is absolute nonsense.  You do not even get to the BIOS screen and the Dell logo?

On a good note, at least consistency existed throughout the past 3-4 days by the Dell support team in sticking to their guns that my issue is software related.  I of course make this statement in total jest!

All I can say on this one is . . . "Dell Support - Shame On You !"

On an ending question to anyone that can offer a suggestion . . . . .
"Gees how to I get my $59 bucks back?

Dell Inspiron N5010 8 beeps on start up

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 and it was fallen down from my bed, since then it stopped working. Whenever I try to power it up it beeps 8 times in series.

I have gone through various discussions in dell community regarding this and have done the following tests.

LCD test (D + power-on)  : This test runs fine, able to see solid colors and on restart it again gives 8 beeps

Fn + Power-on : This doesn't work. As I could see in the discussions, this should run a diagnosis test. But in my case nothing happens, 8 beeps continues.

Few posts suggested to remove the CMOS battery for a while and place it again. That too didn't work.

Reconnected the LCD cable and tries, problem still exists.

Can anyone suggest me what might have went wrong?

Thanks in Advance.

Manufacturer Part Number (MPN) - AW17-0984BLK

Latitude e7450 and PRO3x E-Port docking

Hi Guys,

I just bought a Latitude e7450 and I am trying to use it with my PRO3X e-port docking.

I have found some issues but the most annoying one so far is the imposibility of using the Power button on the dock to start the laptop. The Power button is blinking (blue) but I cannot use it to power up or power down the laptop.

Am I missing any setting on my laptop? Is there a problem with my laptop? The docking worked fine for the past 4 years with my Latitude 6320 so I suspect there is nothing wrong with the docking.

I have installed the latest BIOS update today.

Thank you in advance for any suggestion.

Latitude E6410 - Black Screen when booting up

So I have a latitude e6410, and I have a booting issue, whenever I press the power button, it lights up but the screen dosen't, although the screen and everything else does too after 4-6 seconds, I can hear the hard drive make a sound and the fans working, it shows the dell logo, then it stays black screen after that, I used to have this issue before too, but my computer would boot up on the 2nd try, after updating to BIOS A16, the problem have very much worsened and it takes about 15-20 tries to boot it up, probably not even after that. Yes, I can boot up my PC, it's not like it's gone, in fact - I am typing this from my PC itself. It boots up, but I need to power off, power on so many times. I've tried pressing F12 to run the diagnostics too, but it stays black screen even after that. OS reinstall isn't a solution, already tried that. So, my laptop does boot up after almost 20 tries, sometimes more, but could I get help so I can fix this issue?

Hi all

Just received a refurbished Dell XPS 13 9350 and I have noticed the fan is almost constantly on. After about 5 minutes after booting into windows the fan will come on and stay on.

I've been monitoring my CPU temps and Fan speed.

CPU idles at 30c (86f) but fan is always on.

at about 34c (93f) the Fan will start and stay on 3600RPM

at 50c (122f) the fan goes up to about 4400RPM

anything around 60c (140f) the FAn is on about 5000rpm

Any other dell xps 13 9350 owners experiencing this. is this normal??

I'm on Windows 7 on a Latitude E6540 with one of Dell's 1TB USB 3 drives plugged in and it keeps making the disconnect noise (the Windows sound effect).

I've checked everything I can think of and not finding anything; how do I troubleshoot or fix this?

Brand new Alienware 17 R3 gaming laptop crashes and won't turn back on

So just bought a new R3 laptop yesterday and when I get home the first thing I do is try to play Wither 3 on it. Only thing is after 10 minutes of playing the entire laptop crashes and everything switches off and it won;t turn back on. It's not a power issue from what I can tell as I had it plugged in and the battery was at 100%. Not sure what's happened with it but I have to say I'm not very pleased that a brand new laptop that I only just bought dies on me the very first time I use it.

Dell: I have questions

0
0

First of all I have a XPS 15 9550. I have two questions regarding some issues I have encountered:

1. I and at least one other person here have been receiving an Intel service crash when the system is booted. This crash was for the service "Intel Content Protection HDCP". This was after installing the latest Intel HD Graphics 530 drivers (v20.19.15.4454) posted on the Dell support site for my system. We eliminated the problem by disabling the service, but is not really a good solution. Since there is no further updates to the Intel HD drivers on Dell's site, I posted a question on the Intel Support site. They suggested that I download the latest drivers from Intel. The only problem is that they are numbered 15.xx.xx.xxxx. Is there a difference between what Intel has and what you post on your support site that would give me a problem if I were to install the Intel versions?

2. Another person posted here about the inability to get any information (such as S.M.A.R.T. data) from the NVMe PM951 Samsung SSD drive. I have tried various disk info software including Samsung's own SSD Wizard and they have not been able to access the S.M.A.R.T. data for the PM951. According to Samsung, the Wizard does not support OEM drives. Does Dell have a utility that will display this information for the SSD drive?

Dell Inspiron 15 i559-4682SLV Powerbutton and Keyboard issues

Purchased this from Microsoftstore Canadian Website.

Anyone else having quality issues with this laptop or I have got a bad one.

First the Enter key popped out within 3 months. Opened a service request with Dell and while that was still in progress (they need ownership to be transferred first from Microsoft to me..end customer), the power button went soft. I now have to press the power button few times for machine to power up. It has lost the nice click feeling when you press it and has become soft...similar to how my 7 year old ipod touch home button, but after 7 years of use.

Will be checking with Dell if they could fix this issue at the same time, but just wanted to check with others on the forum what kind of issues they are facing with this laptops hardware. I dread that after a year when warranty ends, what all would break. My 9 year old HP Pavilion laptop hardware is still going strong and this laptop that retails for C$950 does not seem to be built with quality components.

PXE Boot Inspiron Machines

Hello,

Here at our company, we use SCCM to deploy our images. We have a mixture of Optiplex, Latitude, and Inspiron machines. The Optiplex and Latitude series are able to PXE boot with no problem. Our Inspiron machines however, are not able to PXE boot. The symptoms are the same with each Inspiron model we try, but the one I am working with now is the Inspiron 5759.

I am able to communicate with the WDS server, and the problem happens when it is trying to download the boot image. I receive the following error message:

A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.

Status: 0xc00000001

Upon doing some research, it looks like this is caused by the boot image not having the correct drivers. I have added all of the necessary drivers for the laptop to the boot image. I still get the same result after the drivers have been added. I pulled them directly from the product support page.

Is there anything else I can try? I have not been able to find instances of other people failing to PXE boot an Inspiron machine.

Thanks,

Ed

BIOS - USB

I have decided to start to use some of my old hardware kicking around the house for installing Linux (in this case Ubuntu). Everything appears to be fine with regards creating a USB flash drive, however I am having issues with the BIOS as there never appears to be the option to boot from the USB drive.

The machine a Precision M50 (so a far few years old), has the latest A12 Bios upgrade, however there never appears to be an option to boot from a USB drive.

Is there a way to add a USB drive to the list of bootable devices ? If yes, how ?

Vostro 5470 NVidia Error 43 (unsolved)

Hello, I'm time trying to solve the Error 43 problem of off-board nvidia card.

So far I've been through 4 Dell support technicians, have ran numerous websites and forums looking for solution and nothing.

Have tested Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10, all x86 and x64.

I also tested the BIOS A09 A10 A11 and A12. It was on the A9 that the board took that breath does not appear the error 43 and was with Windows 8.1 x64, but even not showing error on the card, the Nvidia manager not detect the card, so could not use it. (Not recommend staying changing BIOS, I ventured to do so is dangerous and can damage your notebook permanently)

There are several people in forums and such talking about the same problem, the vast majority managed to solve only updating the BIOS or by downgrading the A12 to A11 or A10. For me no solution worked.

I wonder if anyone has any definitive solution to this persistent problem ...

Thank you!

I have a laptop INSPIRON E1705 with a WLAN card (p/n DW 1390) installed. I would like to replace it with a WiFi/Bluetooth combo card so I can have Bluetooth capability. What is the recommended card to buy that is compatible with Windows 10?

Hello all, I just purchased the Alienware 17 under the impression that it was the R3 model, but my itemized list has it as an R2. My question is what are the diferences between the two?
