Fingerprint reader problems with Latitude E6420xfr

I bought a used dell latitude E6420 XFR with fingerprint sensor(I can see it on the right side of the pad).
The OS was Ubuntu so I reinstalled a windows7. But after installing all drivers et al., neither the DDA software nor the windows control panel could find the fingerprint sensor.
I contacted service staff and she says that my laptop does not include such a sensor according to the service tag(but I see it), so it's just a "dummy".

The problem is, I checked the manual downloaded from dell.com, and find that there are some version of e6420xfr without the sensor and there is not a little "gap" on the pad, and mine have such a "gap".

So, what am I supposed to do to get it work, or it just cannot work?

I figured out some ways but I don't know if they will work, or there's something I still don't know:

1.install "some" drivers - I installed all from dell's support program, but nvidia's video card driver didn't appear and I installed myself. I don't know if there's a driver that I can install, at least I cannot find it on dell.com.

2.disassemble my conputer and check if that sensor is a "dummy" or if it's connected well. This could take some time...

a tad bit perplexed here I have the L701x that was given to me and tried to install both a crucial m4 ssd and a regular 7200 rpm hd. I tried each one one at a time. Both were recognized in bios however when installing win 7 64 bit when it got to the point to select the drive to be installed on nothing shows up. Have tried numerous things and am about ready to run up the white flag! Any help would be greatly appreciated

This is silly question I know. Will anyone tell me if I press on the edge of spacebar the keyboard suppose to response with space? Mine doesn't. Just playing with my new m5510.

I am running Windows XP on my 8100. Just recently, the second key in each row quit typing, i.e.; the 2, w, s, x. I installed a new update I found on Dell and it starting working again, but only for about an hour. It back doing the same thing. Any solutions out there I can try.

Plugged in, Charging but not Charging

My dell Inspiron 3420 bios version A09 suddenly stopped charging battery , and the power icon show this message(Plugged in and charging) but my battery does not charge.

I tested another charger and another battery but did not help.

Thinking that changing bios might help,I am trying to change the bios but can't downgrade even i tried /forceit command.

I can access logic board if for troubleshooting someone could educate me about voltages of sda, scl and dc jack connector to the board.

Kindly help me.

Has anyone used an Inspiron 13 7000 touchpad two-finger scroll gesture and also compared it to a Surface Pro 3?

I've been using the Inspiron 13 for months but just reformatted Windows on a Surface Pro 3 last night and wow - the 2-finger scroll responsiveness is virtually instant on that device. On the Inspiron it always seems to take a bit of time to get going.

(Not the screws that keep the HDD inside the caddy.)

Hello All.

I have a Dell inspiron 14R n4010, actually working with 4GB ( 2 x 2gb 1RX8 PC3-10600S-9-10B2 1033mhz DDR3).

I am trying to upgrade memory to 8 GB with 2 x 4gb DDR3L - 1600 SODIMM 1.35V CL11 recommended by Crucial.com (crucial.com/usa/en/scanview/B8204BC231D926C3).

After upgrade memory, Bios phoenix (version A13) recognize it. but windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits won't boot.

I read so many post about this problem, but I can't find an answer how to solve it. I tried updating BIOS and did not work. Tried to change memory speed, but BIOS does not leave me to change settings.

Is this memory really compatible with Dell inspiron 14R n4010? anyone knows how to solve this problem?

Does anyone know if Dell sells a replacement keyboard for an Alienware M17x R3? I am having a repair company looking into how much it will cost to replace the original hard drive since it crashed about 2 years after I had it after having many crashes with it before that. They keyboard keys pretty much popped off several months after I got it and then parts of the keyboard stopped working all together. I'm not sure if that was due to the hard driving failing or not.

I am just wondering if it's worth trying to salvage with a new hard drive but if I can't get the replacement keyboard there's no sense.

Recenty I install Windows 8 to my laptop (Dell Vostro 3300). But When I plug in the adapter, it just a few seconds to charge and back to not charging anymore. even when I shutdown and plug in, it still wont charge.

I already try to uninstall the ACPI driver and unplug, restart and plug in again. in fact, I already try all options that show when I google it.

I try to switch with other batterie and adapter from my friend with same version of my laptop, but still it wont charge. please help me to solved this. thank you.

Dell Inspiron 3147 Crashing when waking up from sleep

About three months ago, my wife noticed the laptop was crashing when she'd wake it up. The error was "Bad Pool Header." It would reboot and everything worked fine. I couldn't find anything online about it and I was tired of being haunted with the Windows 10 upgrade. So I went ahead and upgraded the laptop to Windows 10 hoping the issue would resolve itself. It didn't. I received the same error.

Today I took some time and researched the error some more and tried to contact Dell Support. That didn't go so well. Since I bought a refurbished unit from Amazon, the laptop is still registered to someone else. They won't talk to me until the warranty information is updated. (That's a separate battle I'm fighting with Amazon.)

Anyways, I'd love to restore the laptop to the original settings but the laptop doesn't have a DVD drive nor does it have a restore partition. There is also no recovery image saved on the drive. So, I'm stuck unless there is a way to find out what is causing the bluescreening.

When I was troubleshooting today, I had the system checked and there was one update that installed for the chipset. After the chipset update was installed, the issue remained, but the error changed. "System Service Exception" The laptop reboots and it returns to normal.

I have bought an Inspiron 5559 laptop last month. It was windows 10 loaded. I wanted to install Ubuntu along with Windows for teaching purposes. For that I created new partitions for ubuntu. I changed option to legacy from uefi to boot from DVD. but in the time of installation I cant see other partitions. It seems as a whole 1 TB partition.

What can I do to have two os in my system ?

What is my warranty status?

When I check for the warranty status of my laptop, I am told that the country is unknown, the ship date is January 01, 0001, and start and end date are empty. See screenshot below.

I bought it used at an online auction, but think that it might still be under warranty. How can I find out if it is?
