The AC power adapter type cannot be determined: Inspiron N5110

I have a Dell Inspiron N5110. Recently my laptop has been given me errors about plugging in the right adapter when it is the same adapter that I've been using since I bought the laptop in August 2011 and it is the exact same adapter that came along with the laptop.

I also bought a new original Dell Inspiron N5110 Charger but the problem persists.

The configuration of the Charger that came along with my laptop and the one I bought new are the same and are as follows:

Dell P/N: MK947

Ref. ADP -90LD B

Model: DA90PM111

Input: 100-240V ~ 1.5 A          50-60Hz

Output: 19.5V -- 4.62A

The error that currently occurs whenever I plug in the charger is:

The AC power adapter type cannot be determined.

Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge. This problem might be solved by:

- Ensure the plug is inserted completely for best system operation

- Connect a Dell 90W adapter or higher.

The charger is properly plugged in. Sometimes I twist and turn the plug that goes into the laptop and it starts charging but most of the times it doesnt do that and gives me the problem.

I checked Dell Battery Meter, to check Battery's health, and it states the battery is running normal.

So there's no problem with the battery.

I used a different charger of more power (Dell laptop charger only but of different model) and it charged my laptop just fine. Can anyone tell me what the problem is? And why is my laptopn giving me this particular error with the adapter that is supposed to be used with this model and has always worked normally until now?

Will appreciate the help!!

My dell inspiron 17r SE won't even boot past the dell logo screen

I've had this laptop for about six months with a few issues. It wouldn't even let me do a recovery save! Now I was just watching something online and it decided to freeze. After about an hour of waiting for it to go back to normal, I force shut it down and after that it kept coming up with the error message 0xc000021a. I haven't even done anything... And now it won't even go past the dell boot up logo to even go to the error page. I've tried pressing f2 and f12 but only the bar appears and it doesn't go any further in the boot screen or bios setup.

Recently, I had a major issue where I thought I almost lost my new XPS 10 tablet, due to trying to upgrade to the new Windows 8.1 preview.  Essentially, I did the upgrade, restarted the tablet and ran into an issue with booting back into the tablet.  Everything I tried, including using the Windows 8 recovery disc did not work.  Until I did this...

Inspiron 15 3521 Touch Display

Just purchased the Inspiron 15 3521 yesterday.  Right out of the box, noticed the Touch Display wasn't working.

After reading, I,m under the impression this model doesn't actually have a Touch Display, that it is an option on a higher model.  Is this true?

On the outside of the box, it clearly states...

"15.6" HD Widescreen Touch Display with Webcam"   The word 'Optional' is nowhere on the box or anywhere in the description for this laptop.

Touchpad on Dell Studio 1737 disabled when on AC power

I have just experienced this issue on my Dell 1737 using an after market charger. I'm at a friend's rural home for a labor day party. Last year at the same party my Dell OEM .burned out hence the after market replacement. The replacement charger worked flawlessly for a year at my home. I suspect the power here is flawed either voltage or stabilization or open neutral. I'll report if the problem goes away when I get home.

XPS l501x - Touchpad Drivers

Hello. :)  I recently purchased an XPS l501x.  The person who sold it to me was kind enough to upgrade the system to Windows 8 (which the system seems to handle very well and which I'm liking a lot), but they didn't remember to install any touchpad drivers for the system. I would like to be able to turn the tap-to-click option off, or at least adjust it's sensitivity, since at the moment, while it works, it's ultra sensitive.  I've searched the Dell database and found a myriad of touchpad drivers for different XPS systems.  I've come across Synaptics, Dell Cypress, and Alps drivers, or have read forum threads that mention them.  I'm confused which I should be installing for this l501x system -- especially since it's running Windows 8.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!!!

how to disable Inspiron 15R touchpad tapping sound

I just purchased a brand-new Inspiron 15R (Intel core i7-4500u, windows 8).  It's making noisy sound when tapping it. I went to control panel -> sounds, and choose "no sound", no help.  I also went to control panel ->mouse -> dell touchpad -> Dell Pointing Devices, and unchecked "tap to click", no help either.  Please let me know how to disable it.  If the issue can not be solved, I have to return it back to store.  It's too noisy, especially in the meeting, at night and early morning.

Dell xps losing wifi connection

Hi  !

One of my  Dell laptops has problem with the wifi connection dropping several times every day.

Connection is reestablished easily by reconnecting to the SSSID manually  , but it is annoying to be disonnected while surfing on the internet.

So , I want to know what causes the disconnections, and did some investigations & troubleshooting.

Until now, the troubleshooting has not fixed the problem:

  • Installed different Wifi acces point and connected to this one. Problem returns on laptop.
  • Changed IP settings on laptop to fixed IP address instead of DHCP client config.
  • I installed latest driver for the wifi card.
  • Installed the Intel wifi Proset configuration tool, which does not show any events  about the disconnections.
  • I installed Wireshark (http://www.wireshark.org/) on the laptop.
  • Wired connection has no disconnections, only wifi connections is giving this trouble.

After being disconnected I did this troublshooting:

  • On the laptop: run/cmd.exe /  arp -a  shows accesspoint (gateway) ip and mac address
  • Pinging the gatway ip address from the laptop does not echo , no reponse
  • In wireshark I can see ARP functioning between the laptop and the access point , exchanging MAC addresses.
  • So there is a layer 2 connection between access point and laptop, but IP connection is not functioning (no ping reply).
  • Window event log only show some DNS error after the disconnection, which can not be a cause but is a result of the problem.

What else can be done to fix these disconnections????

In picture you can see the wireshark log detail showing the laptop (intelCor) is receiving the gateway's MAC address (starting with 1C:3E) over the air.

At this point IP connection is lost, no ping response....

Failure to power on when plugged into power adapter.

I recently purchased an Inspiron 15R and have so far been mostly impressed with. The only problem I have had is that I find, if I leave the computer off for more than 15 minutes, it cannot be powered on by pressing the power button if the power cord is plugged in. As soon as the power cord is removed from the computer, or disconnected from an outlet, the computer can be powered on by pressing the power button. I was previously recommended to update the BIOS, but when I went to do so, I saw that I had the most current version. I ran the executible file I downloaded from the support site anyways, and saw no change in behavior.
Is this something that can be remotely fixed or do I need a new computer?

Latitude 5510 Windows 7 Reload/Recovery

$

I am attempting to repair my buddy's Latitude 5510. The hard drive died. I managed to backup his data before it crashed. I have replace the hard drive. Of course, there are no recovery CD's any longer, that would be horrible to provide those to the end user. So I contacted Dell and they sent me a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit USB drive. The laptop previously had WIndows Home Basic 32 bit. Everything I have read, this laptop should be able to run 64 bit. I has a Core I5 in it. I boot off of the USB recovery device. It loads Windows, configures it and boots up. But when any sort of update is applied, software or drivers, that's it. It goes into repair mode and that's it. Done. Won't boot up.

1) Will this laptop run 64 bit Windows 7?

2) Why is it so darned hard to get recovery cds? Where do I get a 32 bit recovery CD? The sales guy made it sound like the didn't exist, hence I went along with the 64 bit version.

Thanks,

Wave
