(I'm a 20 year software engineer, so plenty comfortable talking about and doing technical things on my laptop.)

I have installed each and every one of the drivers listed in the following post for a Precision 5510 on Windows 10, rebooting between each, and I still get 2-3 TB15 "lockups" per day.  In my case, the screens stay on; I just lose USB, sound, and network.  Yay!

I also get a notification from Dell Command Update once a week that it needs to update the Thunderbolt Controller to ...250.  Which it's done at least 10 times so far, telling me it succeeded each time.  Of course, that was one of the manual updates listed above.  So something isn't happy.

Before I trouble my IT department to send this TB15 back to Dell, has anyone out there found a fix?  Is anyone out there using the TB15 reliably with a Precision 5510 on Windows 10 Pro?

Hello guys,

I wanted to acces my bios to do some tweaks, but i got  something strange.

It said, dcsboot has been blocked by current securtiy pollicy.

Does anyone know how to change the pollicy.

So I have a dell xps 15 which has 1tb+ 32gb ssd however when I check my storage it tells me that I only have a total of 991gb I'm so confused is something wrong with my laptop please I need help

The Dell Laptop inspiron 15 AMD A10 processor 16GB RAM.

Ive been dealing with this issue for months and been on multiple forums with absolutely no solution.

The computer always sleeps on the first lid close, clicking start menu sleep button, and power button, AS IT SHOULD.

But when I open the laptop the 2nd time, I use it for whatever i need, and then I close the lid, or press power button, or click sleep in start menu, the whole computer does a restart.

So here is what happens if I wasnt clear ( 1st attempt to sleep works, 2nd attempt to sleep restarts, next sleep works, then the next sleep restarts, etc etc etc) **On each 2nd attempt to sleep, the fan and hardrive never turn off it just instantly restarts without pause**

This is a new laptop.

My dumpfile says something about a kernel power error each time the computer restarts on the 2nd sleep attempt, but all the support has ignored that for some reason. I will be more than happy to supply a link to my dumpfile if someone would like to have a look at it.

Solutions Ive already tried:

I updated all drivers

repaired windows 10 with .ISO

set powerplan to sleep on lid close and vice versa

set powerplan to never sleep and vice versa

set powerplan to never turn off hardrive and vice versa

set powerplan to never hibernate or hybrid and vice versa

No wake timers in powerplan

No devices are waking up the laptop including wireless internet and display

I turned off fast startup in powerplan

I Made a new custom powerplan with all the above options as well

Yes im using the manufacturer supplied power supply

I don't have anything plugged into my laptop ( no keyboard no mouse)

I have not installed any crazy stuff or edited anything crucial to the computer. I only have 2 music production applications.

Hi,

I have been facing a problem during the last few months. In the morning after turning my laptop ON, the screen remains blank except that my cursor arrow is visible.  it takes a very long time ( may be 25 to 30 minutes)  to boot. Even after the screen appears and I enter my opening password, the screen goes blank again. Finally it opens up but I cannot work with the system. When I press the key for re-staring, the restarting message remains on the screen for quite some time. Yesterday, I could not use my laptop for almost 5 hours because of the problem. Finally, everything was fine and I am able to work. I loaded WINDOWS 10 some months ago and I get a feeling this is happening more often after I starting using WINDOWS 10.

If I press control-alt-delete keys on my key-pad, the list of actions get displayed on a blue screen giving the standard choice of task manager, The screen goes blank again if I press any choice.

Whenever any normal downloads like WINDOWS updates , etc. are in process , clear message appears on the screen and at least I know. The updates take sometime to get un-loaded and thereafter I have no problem.

I fail to understand why the system goes blank but becomes alright after several hours. Probably it tries to recover something? Why do I not get a message as to what the system is doing internally?

What action do I take to understand what activity is going on inside my laptop, so that I can either re-schedule the data recovery process so that it does not hamper my work schedule?

Any lead will be useful.

I have a refurbed dell pp32la laptop.  I had to replace the ac jack on the mother board, so I had to take the thing completely apart.  Everything works great but when I was reconnecting everything, I couldn't find a place for the grey wire.  According to the dell site, the WLAN card should have a white, black, and grey triangle that correspond to the leads.  The white and the black are in plane site but I can't find a grey one.

I don't know if it's a rare case but even though I'm having technical problems with my XPS, what's really giving me a headache is a strange mixup with my service tag. I just purchased a XPS 15 that has a service tag of an Inspiron 5558 sold in 2015 and I can't get any technical advise. I'm beyond frustrated with the attention that I'm getting from Dell since they can't seem to acknowledge that possibility or I just sound crazy for them. That weird and prehistoric service tag is even in my Bios so there's not a single thing in my software that I've found that says XLS 15. I'm starting to believe that I have an Inspiron inside a XPS 15 hardware; which is a lot more expensive! To think that I almost didn't buy it because I hated the Dell Inspiron that used for work (If only I had known!).

So I turn to the forums to ask fellows buyers if someone has encountered a similar problem and how to get a positive Dell response out of it.

Now if someone could help me with my technical issues for XPS 15 in the meantime, that would be awesome. My cursed XPS 15 has the following issues:

1. It takes ages to startup (1.5 minutes) which I have "solved" it by delaying NVIDIA Experience during startup. I'm mentioning it in case that has something to do with the following issues.

2. When it "wakes" up around 50 percent of the times the screen doesn't respond and I have to hard reset. While the screen is unresponsive, the keyboard lits up normally and the power light's button is on. 

3. Sometimes when I'm using the laptop, either the screen freezes up (and keyboard and power light acts normally) or the screen turns off (also with my keyboard and power light normal). In both cases it doesn't matter how long I wait since I eventually have to hard reset and lose my work.

I wouldn't be so frustrated if I hadn't be using it for work so having to hard reset it constantly is literally a heavy weight in my workload.

my 3147 inspiron crashed last week and I swapped out the hard drive and reinstalled 8.1 using the recovery disk. After windows started, I installed the network driver but I can't see any available wifi network names (wifi is working fine on my desktop so it's the laptop that's having issues).

I've tried running troubleshooting, taking the wifi card out and reseating it, reinstalling the drivers. I also did the fn key to turn wifi off and on but there's nothing onscreen that signals that anything happened.

Any suggestions for next steps?

I received my refurb Dell laptop two weeks ago today.  I have been trying to contact Dell for two weeks.  I keep getting question "please say what you need help with"  however, I cannot because I have a speech disability and evidently Dell has never had or does not know about people with speech impediments.  Are they really that backward?  Or is it because every contact I make goes to an overseas call center that has limited English speaking reps?

Before my time runs out to return, I'd like to return the device.  It is a refurb and I have bought many refurbs but this one is so bad I can barely see the screen and all text is barely legible.  Or it might just mean that's the way Dell laptops are, I don't know.  I do have the very best Dell desktop one could buy that has performed flawlessly for the last three years or so.  But the laptop I got is worthless.  My desktop is an XPS8300 with 1.5T HD, 16 gig memory with WIN10 OS using Chrome browser.

I think I have 30 days return but do I have to pay return postage?

Or maybe someone here can walk me through setting it up.  It is a an Inspiron 15.

I had purchased Dell Inspiron 13" 7348 2-in-1 Laptop while in Japan. It came with Japanese Single Language Windows 8.1. Eventually I changed it to English by downloading English Language Pack.

Using Free Windows 10 upgrade by Microsoft, the laptop is upgraded, however it fails to change the base language to English.

Can someone help?

Hi Everyone,

I have a new Dell Inspiron 7559:

I use it for work, mainly translation tools, and also for some ocasional gaming (Witcher 3, Cities skylines, etc.).

So I was thinking on maybe upgrading it a bit, but as I´m on a budget I can only afford upgrading the ram up to 16GB or to buy an SSD of 250GB, what would you suggest to upgrade?, which of both would have more impact on the performance?.

My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop had a very good battery life(>6 hours), but today morning it showed an error message saying  "Battery has experienced permanent failure and needs to be replaced." I updated the BIOS from A3 to A10, but it didn't help! The PC starts only if its plugged in and the battery charge is constant at 82%. What should I do?

Hello

My pc used to lag sometimes when I incert my external hard drive , I suspected that it could be problem with windows or the laptop hard drive itself

So I wrote down this code in the command prompt to check for drive errors and bad sector ( not the C , I tested D: )

Chkdsk/ /r /f D: /x , where /X means force dismount if necessary

After 8h+ I wake up and check it out it was in stage 4 working but then this error happened and stopped ( check the link )

Since then the laptop keep restarting and doesn't recognize the hard drive anymore

I suspect that it could be because system error cased it to force dismount but then since it crashed it didnt do it properly ,

So what I can do now ? My laptop doesn't recognize my hard drive at all but I have a Bootable usb and it sees it with the correct size

Hey everybody,

Seeking some guidance. Everything I've read states the Precision M6400 can support a max of 16GB of RAM. The laptop I'm working with had 4 GB installed. 2 sticks of 2 GB each. The laptop works with the original memory, but we want to upgrade to the MAX. It also has the latest BIOS of A13.

We ordered 2 Crucial 8GB kits (CT2KIT51264BF160B). The Crucial web site states these are compatible. Each kit contains 2 sticks of 4GB each. These should give us the MAX of 16 GB.

I can only get the laptop to boot with 8 GB. With all 4 identical sticks installed I get the blinking caps lock (Memory error). All of the memory appears functional as I've tested all 4 sticks, but just can't get more than 2 sticks to work at any time. I've also tried using two of the new sticks with the old ones in the proper slots, but no luck. 

Any suggestions? Thanks!

On the bottom of my laptop, I'm missing a screw. I can't find any information on what size screw it is and I don't want to buy a pack of screws that claim they fit the laptop without knowing exactly what I'm missing.

If I'm using my laptop, It's the screw that is on the bottom in the top right hand corner. All the way at the top where the two halves come together.

The bottom isn't secure and it makes this clicking noise whenever I adjust the screen so I'd really appreciate some help.
