i just lost my bios password..it is not that i forgot it...but my lap dont recognize it(may be)
cmos removal - replacement didnt work nor d bios password generator did.. i just dont wanna go to hardware side anymore....
can dell do anything in ds case lyk a master password for my service tag or smthng lyk dat..

A couple of days ago I've tried to upgrade to Windows 10. I've downloaded the executable from Microsoft website and installed Windows 10. Post installation, when I've tried to restart or shutdown my computer, the Windows was stuck on Dell logo (with the circle which mentions loading). It was stuck for hours, and the only way I could get out of this situation is by pressing the power on\off key. but again, after I've turned the computer back on, it was stuck again on Dell logo. In the third try, the Dell recovery program said that Windows was not opened properly and I can choose between restoring from a specific time restore point, or make a factory reset. Only factory reset worked, but that has left me with my Windows 8.1 and not Windows 10.
So again, I tried to install Windows 10, and again the same problem after computer was restarted. It was stuck on Dell logo. So, meanwhile, I've returned to my Windows 8.1 (through factory reset).
Does anyone know why it happening? Does anyone also encountered this problem?

I am facing an illogical problem on my wife's dell inspiron. The computer started to shutdown randomly while she was working. The problem started to evolve until the day when the computer always turned off before loading the windows.
I tried to check the bios, but the computer turned off 10-20 seconds after getting into the bios. Because the fan blew almost cold air, I thought it might not be an overheating issue, but motherboard, ram, power board or any other hardware issue.
In a desperate move, I tried to install ubuntu via a live CD and it surprisingly installed, loaded and works non stop since then. Hence, I ruled out the possibility of hardware failure.
However, the problem persisted in bios or if I stayed in the grub loader for more than 15 seconds. I thought that the only logical explanation would be "overheating" in bios because unlike the OS, bios tends to utilize 100% of the CPU.
I took the computer a part, cleaned the fan, heat sink and applied high quality thermal paste on the CPU die and GPU ATI chip. I know that the thermal compound worked out because the system shows idle temperature drops from 50 to 35 and 75 to 60 degrees Celsius for the CPU and GPU respectively.
Finally, I tried to load again into the bios, but the problem still persists.
What on earth am I missing? I just need a logical explanation for the peace of my mind
I placed a SSD in my new Dell, copied the HDD to the SSD via Minitool Partition Wizard and now want to change the boot sequence so it starts from the SSD. In the UEFI I only see the options:
Windows Boot manager
NIC IPv4
NIC IPv6

Hi guys, I have a Dell Inspiron n4110(dual graphics) already 3 years old still good not until I upgraded the BIOS to A12 through dell website.
The symptoms after upgrade were BSOD atikmpag,sys error during start up but if its other VGA which is the AMD RADEON 6630M will be disabled BSOD will not occur which means the other vga which is the Intel hd 3000 is good. I tried update the AMD RADEON driver and CATALYST CONTROL CENTER but still have the same error.
Now one thing, since the error happened when I updated the BIOS to A12 , I tried to revert back to an older BIOS but one thing I've noticed, that its battery is already at 7% plugged in, not charging error and it needs 10% above battery to downgrade BIOS version. Even using DOS to downgrade BIOS is impossible since DELL BIOS update will work only on windows OS.
Anyone on DELL would help me on this? I would really appreciate your help..
can someone please help me, i jst recently discovered that my dell inspiron 3521 core i3, brightness control is not working, all other function keys work except for these one's, and also i cnt seem to find "monitor" on my device manager, ave tried installing the latest intel graphic driver bt it wont, am out of option cn sumone help me please...
Based on this link, I have successfully cloned my system to Samsung 950 Pro. It is visible in boot up option next to my HDD.
At this moment, HDD is Disk 1, OS (C:). SSD is Disk 2 (D:).
The tutorial in this link suggest remove HDD and format it from desktop. I tried to unscrew my HDD, but I failed as 3 of 4 are too tight.
Can someone please provide detailed steps in 1. format HDD, make (D:); 2. make SSD (C:) without removing HDD from my laptop (17 R3)?
Another question, although SSD is available to choose as boot, there are still four media file I have to select. They are <system volume information>, <EFI>, ST8522.14267, ST17864. 32006. What is the correct one here?

My XPS15 9550 HW config is (256GB SSD/8G RAM/ 1830 WLAN card) and i already upgrade all driver & BIOS to latest version from Dell website, till now still occur system response will very slow or hang up on below two condition and already try to re-install win10 O.S many cycles.
those problem is seriously impact my job everyday, till now Dell still can't provide efficacious solution to fix.
have other people also occur those problem?

I bought a Dell Precision M6500 laptop workstation from a local laptop store. Using the service tag on the back of the computer, I was able to pull out the configuration from Dell Support. It says the original CPU that the manufacture put in is an Intel I7-940XM Quad Core 2.13GHz which can supports more than 16GB of memory. But when I actually put in 8x2 GB memory in it. The system stuck in memory checking and won't boot. So I checked out the property of the pc and found out the CPU it currently has is i7-620 Dual core which can only support memory for < 8GB
So I decide to go online to purchase a CPU of the original configuration (i.e., the i7-940XM Quad Core).
Do you think this would work?
I bought a used M6500 about a year ago from a local pc store. It came with only 4GB of memory. I used the dell support to pull out the original manufacture's configuration which shows it can support up to 32GB. So I bought 8GBx2 from Fry's and put into it. But it won't boot up. Further research indicate that the this pc originally had a quad core i7-940xm which is supposed to be able to support 16GBx2. However, the property of the machine indicates it is a dual core i7-620 which only support up to 4GBx2. This indicate the original CPU was swapped out. As I want to put in 32GB memory, I went on bought another quad core i7-940xm which is identical to the original configuration (for about $140).
I would appreciate if anyone can give me an word whether the CPU I bought would work or not.

Hi i have the 17inch laptop and the other day the screen flickered and then went off.
when i power up the machine the keyboard lights up but nothing comes on the screen,there is no beeping.
i have tried hooking up an external monitor to the hdmi but again no display
could it be the motherboard or graphics card? any tests i can do to find out the problem?

I have a 5 month old XPS 13, 9350. Windows 10, running perfectly fine until yesterday, when I noticed the machine could not be shut off. When I click on Shut Down it reboots, as if I hit the Restart button. So right now there isn't any way to turn off the machine. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Recently I am getting problem with my laptop. I thought the problem was with Windows OS so made fresh install. The problem occurs both on windows 7 and Windows 10 OS. After few minutes of booting, laptop freezes. It runs for about 5 to 30 minutes and suddenly freezes and mouse and keyboard becomes unresponsive. I have not overclocked or made some unusual changes in hardware. I have ran chkdsk and there is no disk error.
However the problem does not occur in Linux Mint partition. It can run perfectly all day on Linux Mint. Please help me to diagonize and solve the problem.
For the past few months links in emails from dell do not work. Clicking on them only returns you back to the email. Have tried forwarding them to other email accounts(gmail, yahoo, aol) but result is still the same.
I don't know how to solve this problem. Quickset keeps saying that my laptop doesn't recognize the AC adapter, and I can't afford to take the battery out of my laptop.
The cursor is jumping around when you lift your finger from the trackpad. I am finding it very difficult to use Photoshop and cannot do anything precise which is ironic as this is a precision touchpad. There is nothing precision about it.

I have a Dell Laptop Inspiron 1750 and I have cleared it down using the factory restore images stored on the computers. I want it fully working before I given it to a friend or family.
I wanted to get the latest drivers and when I went to the Dell Support page I was offered to download and install DellSystemDetectLauncher.exe. I first download it and then run the installer and then nothing happens, no welcome screen, no please wait or loading ... dialog box, no error message, just absolutely nothing.
My real problem is that I can't install a few pieces of software:
DellSystemDetectLauncher.exe
Adobe Flash
Acrobat Reader
maybe more I have not seen yet.
All have the same problem. you double click on the installer and then nothing happens.
So I am really hoping someone will guild me to fix the DellSystemDetectLauncher.exe problem I have and it will fix the other installers not working. I have already posted this on the adobe forum.
I am a computer programmer with a degree in computer programming and I have built my own computer, reinstalled them, have installed drivers, software and firmware, so I thought I should be able to fix this problem but as of yet I have had no luck so far.
I have:
1) Installed all the Windows Updates
2) Installed Windows Vista SP2
3) Installed Dell's BIOS, Drivers, Software and firmware updates.
4) installed the latest IE from v7 to now v9. (This fixed my skype problem "sorry, we couldn't connect to skype")
5) installed latest Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistribution.
6) Searched on the internet for solution and followed a few steps that I thought sounded promising but no solution so far.
To me the key problem is I don't get any information, i.e. no error messages or logs, so this makes it very hard to search for solutions that are specific to my problems. Anyone who can help me just to identify the problem, that is find an error or a log that shows where the problems is, would help me tremendously and get me closer to fixing the problem.
I suspect that I need to install some type of update that will miraculously fix the problem, like point 4 above, where upgrading IE to v 9 fixed my skype problem, but I have no idea what this would be.
