"Reboot or select a proper boot device"

Good afternoon,

A couple of days ago, I tried to plug an external hard drive WD passport in my PC to put some stuff in it, but I couldn't find it in My Computer, though my PC detected it. So I went looking for solutions on the web, and I heard about a recovery tool whose name I forgot.

After using it, I have been asked to reboot the computer, which I have done, and since then, I was unable to boot the computer, I get the error message : "Reboot or select a proper boot device", so I assume I messed up with the recovery tool, and instead of choosing my external HD, I chose my main HD.

I tried using Disk Recovery and Partition Recovery with Ultimate Boot CD (I booted it via USB) but I got rewarded with another error message when I try to boot my computer, this time "Loading DRMK v8.00"

Just in case you might find it useful, I have 4 partitions on my disk:

- An unnamed 39mb partition, file system FAT, type Primary, status Active & Boot
- A RECOVERY 14.81 GB partition, file system NTFS, type Primary, status None
- An OS 470.04 GB partition file system NTFS, type Primary, status System
- A Local disk 445.62 GB partition, file system NTFS, type Logical, status None

PS: I have a Dell desk computer with Windows 10 which I got by upgrading from Windows 7 when I got the notification, so I don't have its reinstallation CD, not do I have the windows 7 one.

I am currently running a full scan with Partition Recovery Wizard (74%) and so far it found many NTFS BOOT deleted partitions.

Thank you for your time and for your answers !

Backup and Recovery

I have an Inspiron 17 5000 series I was having a few problems so used Dell Backup and Recovery to restore to factory settings. Since doing so the Backup and Recovery program will not run. I have tried re-installing from Dell Downloads, a Clean Boot then the Download neither option has worked and the program still will not run. It gets so far then informs me it has encountered a problem and closes.

Any suggestions

Computer shuts down every time I close the lid

I have a Precision 5510 that is about 2 months old with Windows 10 installed on it.  Over the last 2-3 weeks it has started shutting down _every_ time I close the lid.  Granted, I never close the lid and open it back up right away, it is usually hours later or the next day.

My settings specify that when I close the lid it goes to sleep on both battery and plugged in, but now it is apparently shutting down because when I re-open the lid later it is booting up.

I have seen another post that mentions trying several things like updating video drivers or doing diagnostics on the hard drive.  What should I check first?

Replacing 13-7352 Laptop Keyboard?

So liquid spilled on the keyboard of my 13-7352 Laptop and immediately after the keys started acting wanky.  Like if I would hit the shift key it would type "g" and sometime another random letter.  90% of the keys wouldn't work at all and the backlight was stuck on.  In all honestly, it wasn't a ton of liquid but obviously enough to do some damage.  I shook out any excess liquid, wiped the keyboard and let it dry.  Now the keyboard doesn't work at all, but the backlight remains on.

I am good with hardware so was confident in taking it all apart, which I did.  I had everything removed (and didn't see any sign of liquid damage) but even with everything removed it didn't look like the keyboard itself could be detached from the case.  Does anyone know if it's possible to remove it?  I saw replacement keyboards on eBay so I assumed I could but am at a loss.

Thanks in advance.

Inspiron 15 7559 Lag

I just bought the highest spec Inspiron - 8gb ram, 4k display, ssd+hdd & I got few issues.

Firstly, the problem with the track pad. Right out of the box the *** track pad was glitchy. The left click wouldn't register all the time, and the track-pad it self has so much play. I get this is their cheaper line, but can anyone else confirm this same build quality? And if they have the same problem with the left click. Right click registers 100% of the time.

Secondly, my windows boots really quick. But there is this weird freaking lag I feel. If I put my laptop on sleep or shut the lid and continue from where I left off every single folder I open is so slow. And regardless of restarting my pc or not, maximizing or minimizing windows has this stutter feel to it. Like the windows fall behind...

I have changed the setting to performance vs visual. I have updated the bios as per Tech support, updated the video card & windows; I still get this really bad lag. I have windows 10 on pc, and I want to know how to fix this issue. I would also like to know if anyone else is experiencing this stuff. And apparently my in home warranty only covers track pad but not the software side of it. The sales person did a poor job at explaining the warranty side by saying everything is covered with in home warranty.

$1600. was it worth it. We will see in 2 weeks. Help

New system, setting up a series of scheduled jobs via Win 10 Job Scheduler.  If the laptop is sleeping, Job Scheduler seems unable to wake it.  Updated BIOS to 1.3.3, fiddled with a couple of settings, without success.  These jobs work fine on other PCs.

Devices won't stay connected to laptop

Every time I try to connect my phone by USB it will make the noise like it connected but then disconnect and continue to make the noise. Though the phone is charging but not showing up in File Browser under devices. The same thing happens to my GPS when I am trying to connect it in order to update it. This is getting very frustrating. The only thing that shows up is my Flash Drive. It didn't always do this but now I can't plug in any devices to try and update them or add things to them. Please help!

Inspiron 15 5000 series touchpad erratic

Pretty much in the title. Randomly, I'll move my finger across the touchpad but it doesn't register. Then I have to kind of move my finger *very* lightly and it will register and move again. Laptop isn't six months old yet so this is hella-annoying (yes I know it's under warranty, but I don't want to ship it away for two weeks if possible!)

I've read that uninstalling then reinstalling both the touchpad driver and the touchpad program itself, but I'm not technically gifted so I'd rather not chance making things worse.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

WAY over my head with RAID settings...

Alienware 17, three years old, battery finally died, completely. As this isn't a user replaceable battery, had to send it in to Dell. When I got the computer back, my Windows 10 upgrade was gone and Windows 7 was back.

The real problem is that I no longer have RAID set up and really don't know what my original configuration was for any RAID drives.

Does anyone have info on where I can find Alienware 17 original configurations for RAID?

Thanks in advance!

Does this laptop has AHCI support ?

Hi , I was looking for a laptop with good battery backup.

Found this

http://www.flipkart.com/dell-inspiron-15-3551-x560139in9-pentium-quad-core-4-gb-ddr3-500-hdd-ubuntu-notebook/p/itme8z5v2rzqfkmc?pid=COME8Z5V2XYY8DT3

A user commented that he was not able to upgrade to some SSD models like "Samsung 750 Evo and 850 Evo SSD" , the windows installation was not a success.

Q. Can I upgrade to an SSD in this laptop ?

Q. Does it have AHCI support ?

Q. can I upgrade to 8GB RAM ?

Q. Does it heat up ? or the fan always works ?

Studio XPS 1647 won't boot

A couple days ago I was using my computer as normal, when the wifi connection went out. Other devices were working, so, no biggie, Windows is flaky, just restart the connection. That didn't work, so fine, Windows is really flaky, just restart the computer.

Except that now it won't get through the BIOS, the loading bar gets to ~80% and stops. I can hit ESC to see the list of components that it can find, but F2 and F12 don't ever execute. There are no beeps. I tried removing the RAM sticks one at a time, removing the wifi card (since that was the proximate cause of the restart), and checked the mobo battery's voltage (~3.2V). Are there any more debugging steps I can take?

Unable to run Dell System Detect

I had a bunch of slowdown and glitch problems recently, I've had glitchy problems with Dell software since the beginning, it's changed over time as Dell updates its own software automatically, including freezes and crashes (not to mention the root cert vulnerability a while back), so I just uninstalled as much as I could, and the problems mostly went away, but now I've noticed the Sleep option is gone from power options, I can only shut down and hibernate now.

(Screenshot at bottom of post)

I went in to Dell support to see what I needed to install again, and it guided me to the Dell System Detect download launcher, which now crashes. I tried uninstalling all of the remaining Dell software (Data Protection, Power Manager (which had no Hibernate/Sleep options anyways), but not Touchpad), and it says DDP needs other things uninstalled first...

I just need a normal Windows 7 experience, I want the absolute base minimum Dell software necessary to have that experience without all the Dell bugs and problems... what do I do now?

Inspiron 15 5000 keeps dropping internet for no reason

Still trying to get help to fix wifi that disconnects repeatedly for no reason.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series, with intel core i3

Runs Windows 10 which came installed on laptop.

I read that a lot of people have this problem. Seems stupid that one of the most important parts of the computer, the wifi driver, is where Dell skimped on when making this laptop.

PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU.

Power adaptor input broken

Good Afternoon

I accidentaly pull abrutly my power adaptor, and my laptop got damaged as you can see in the picture.  You can see a fisure in the upper part of the adaptor plug.  The laptop is working properly, it charges as normal.  But the plug feels very loose when I plug in the laptop. I'm worry that something inside could be broken and my charge doens't work again.   How can I solve/prevent it?

Thanks

Why Wifi, Ethernet & USB isn't working?

$

Hi There!

Yesterday night I had  tried to install a network driver in Windows 10. But it had not installed successfully. This morning I run my laptop as usual. But after a while I figured out that my wireless LAN, wifi, Ethernet, LAN and USB ports aren't working. So I do a ePSA Diagnostic from one time boot menu option by pressing F12 while restarting. There, I found on the Configuration tab:

Wireless Switch = on

Wireless Lan = not installed

Blutooth = installed

Wireless Wan = not installed

There are no sign of Wireless/Ethernet LAN in Device manager. There is a exclamation mark on USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller. My card reader and Bluetooth works fine.

I Would like to know what happened to my laptop(Dell Vostro 3460). Is my LAN Card dead? What about the USB Port?

Thanks in Advance,

Al Shahriar

Upgrade hard drive on Inspiron M531R-5535 to SSD

I have never replaced a hard drive on a laptop. Just wondering if this is a straightforward process.  Can I simply buy any 2.5" SSD drive and swap out the existing drive for the new SSD (assuming, of course, I know how to backup and restore my system)?  Or is there some kind of special consideration when it comes to laptop hard drives?

Thanks
