Latitude E6420 HDMI output jack won't work

$

I have tried a LOT of different things to get my HDMI port to work but I will follow any advice in specific order if anyone can suggest a good starting point. Ideally, this is a common problem and I just have yet to find the resource to address it.

Even though I have an integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000, device manager indicates that "NVIDIA 4200M (PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0) Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)." Is this driver only for monitors that I would hook up to my Latitude that contain corresponding NVIDIA hardware/software? (i.e. does this NVIDIA 4200M have anything to do with why my HDMI output jack won't work?)

Please help as I have a Nixeus WQHD 27" Ultra High Resolution (2560 x 1440) that I am dying to use to its full potential. I'd even appreciate recommendations for an external GPU if it is that to which I am relegated .

Besides my Latitude E6420 (tag B7H07R1), I also have a Studio 1558 (tag 4MZ5DN1) if I can get my WQHD monitor to work on that any easier.

Thanks in advance and have a happy and SAFE Memorial Day weekend!

Windows 10 compatible with Windows 7 Hardware Accessories?

My laptop is a Precision M4500, dual i7, Service Tag BN27LN1. I've been looking online but I've found no definite answer to my question. I want to upgrade to Windows 10, it looks nice and I like how it runs on my home desktop and our work desktops. But I'm not certain I want to upgrade if I lose my ability to login via fingerprint. I've got the little Broadcom Swipe Sensor, about as wide as 3.5mm audio jack and about as long as the metal tip protruding from said 3.5mm audio jack. If I do upgrade to Win10, is there any way I'd still be able to use my fingerprint scanner? And will it effect any of the other components of my laptop?

Dell Inspirion 15r 5520 - Power Problems

Went to use my laptop this morning and no power.  It was connected to the AC adapter so I removed the plug and tried to power again.  Here are all the things I have already tried:

-Checked wall plug - ok

-Checked the charger - when I plug the charger into the wall plug the green light comes on, but as soon as I plug it into the laptop, the green light goes out

-Removed battery and AC adapter and Fn plus power for 30 seconds - nothing

-Reseated memory cards - nothing

History:

Despite Windows 10 not being supported on this hardware, I installed it last November and it had been working fine.  Every once in a while it seemed if I touched the mouse pad just so, the screen would have black lines running across it.  After a few seconds it would resolve itself.

The day before I lost power, I ran the Quick Diagonal test from dell.Com and when I left it, it seemed to be running the test.

Is there anything else I can check or try on my own before I have to take it for repair?

It seems a likely problem may be the charging plug receptacle, but not sure how to test without another charger.

Thanks for ANY input!

inspiron 7348 touchscreen unresponsiveness

Hello guys, I could not find any thread on this issue so Im hoping someone can help me. My Inspiron 7348 2 in 1 laptop's touchscreen will become unresponsive when I interact with it. It will work for a couple of touches but then it will become unresponsive for about 10 seconds before it responds again. I checked for driver updates for the human interface touchscreen and found the drivers up to date. I will usually use the touchpad or a mouse but it's a real bummer that the touchscreen is basically useless since I purchased this model for its 2 in 1 feature. I'd appreciate and input and help, thank you!

Precision 3510 not a great experience so far

Have to say this workstation is giving me some problems so far that are fundamentally slowing down my work process.

Disk Access at 100% - I realize this has a lot to do with Windows 10 and my slower drive but it gets bogged down so that the mouse stutters in movement and things almost stop. Had to search high and low across the internet for strange little tweaks and things to turn off to get it not do it as much. Everything from turning off notifications to manually setting the page file size.

Intel HD Graphics - Crashes all the time freezing the screen. This is with the latest BIOS and driver updates (on beta 4444 just to see if it helped). Black squares appear in browser windows and in my VMware virtual machines. Since I am back and forth between browsers and VMs and email, I get this crash a lot. Which I could just switch to using the AMD graphics card that could handle everything without issue but it seems this may be architecturally impossible which seems to be a bad choice for a system that is supposed to be this powerful and forward thinking.

Hi there. I have a Dell 3721 running Win 7. Occasionally when I press the Off/On switch, the unit  will not power up and there's a clicking noise. The screen remains black and the clicking sound remains until I power down. My unit is under warranty and I want to replace the hard drive and Ram. Anyone else ever have this issue?

Alienware 18 - Need help with cooling

I have been thinking about upgrading my GPU to the latest graphics card from NVIDIA and also getting a suitable CPU to go with it. But as there is no upgrade for the motherboard, I face the problem of overheating and damaging my computer.

1) I will appreciate any help and advice you can give me on how to prevent my system from overheating.

2) Are the fans in the AW 18 up-gradable? If yes, can you recommend some?

3) Is it possible to get liquid cooling in an AW 18?

4) Can you recommend a good external cooler for an AW 18?

Inspiron i5559 - Three Questions

$

I bought a Dell i5559-3347SLV. It's an Inspiron 15.6" laptop, shown here: officedepot.com/.../Dell-Inspiron-15-Laptop-156- Screen/ I've had it for a week, and I pretty much like it for what it for what I'll be using it for. I've looked at both the User's Manual and the Service Manual, but, I've still got three questions:

1) When I close the lid, I notice that it doesn't close completely flush on the left side and partial left front. There's about a 3/16" to 1/4" gap (nearly two credit cards can fit in the gap), whereas the right side closes fairly flush. If I run my hand (not much pressure) from the back to the front of the left side of the lid when it's 'closed', the gap goes away and the whole lid is nice and flush. I don't know if this is worth exchanging for another laptop of the same model, or not. I think that the left hinge is just a little tighter than needed. Any opinions?

2) The machine starts up with the NumLock off. I haven't gone into the BIOS to see if I can change the default to ON, yet. However, when I do press the NumLock key to turn the number pad ON, I don't see any Fn key light up to indicate that it's on. The only thing that indicates that it's on is in the Hidden Icons box, for which you have to click to expand, and then if the NumLock is on, it contains a square box with the number '9'. Who wants to have to go thru that to see if NumLock is on?

3) Should the power button, which is round with a translucent, verticle stripe dividing it in half, light up when when power is on, or turn orange when sleeping or in screen saver mode?

TIA

some keyboard stopped working

Dear all,

These (MJU7NHY6) keys in my laptop dell (Inspiron 11-3000 series) keyboard stopped working this May 13. They wouldn’t function unless pressed so hard. I bought laptop last year and it's new.

The onscreen keyboard is working fine. I updated the keyboards driver but it didn’t help. I’m not aware of any liquid that may have spilled over the keyboard. Maintenance shops where I'm seem they can’t help. Some said would give it a try and remove the keyboard to see if they can identify and solve the problem but said that there’s a chance it may screw up the whole keyboard. Please advise what to do. Enclosed is a snapshot of the keys in questions.

I appreciate your advice.

here's a snapshot of the keys in question:

Inspiron 17 5000 Series Not Booting Windows

$

I have a Dell Inspiron 17 5000 Series that was purchased with Windows 8 and upgraded to Windows 10 earlier this year.  Recently, the PC has had problems booting into Windows.  What I mean is that when I turn the PC on I’d see the Dell screen and when you expect to see the Windows Start Screen the monitor would be blank with no signs of activity and no mouse pointer.  I thought that maybe Windows might be corrupted so I began a reinstall without deleting my personal files.

Everything was going fine until at some point during the installation the PC reverted to the same state it did when it would not boot Windows.  Just a blank screen no sign of activity and no mouse pointer.  Any ideas on what might be the problem?

UPDATE:

Ok, I used an HDMI cable and hooked the PC up to my TV.  All of a sudden the PC monitor came on but its a distorted mess however, I was able to make out the login screen.  As soon as I unplugged the HDMI cable the screen went blank again.

Dell Inspiron 1545 - Local Only WiFi problem in Vista

$

Im having a problem with a Dell Insprion 1545 laptop, which is running Vista.

I can connect the laptop to WiFi okay, but the problem is the internet connection randomly stops then when I hover the mouse cursor over the network icon in the taskbar, it says "Access: Local Only".

Im connecting to WiFi using a Nokia Lumia 520 smartphone.

I don't think it's a problem with my internet provider because when the laptop's internet connection stops, the internet still works okay on the phone itself. So this narrows it down to a problem with the laptop and the WiFi connection.

Is there any solution to this problem?

Thanks for any advice.

[Replacement Battery] Can I replace 90Whr insated of 48Whr battery?

Recently my laptop screen started to go black randomly. I think that the issue started after one of the Dell Updates. What's interesting in never happens during gaming, only when using a browser, Word, etc or left idle. When it happens the laptop is completely unrensponsive the only thing I can do is to hold the power button to turn off the laptop. Also when the screen goes black it seems like the backlight it's still on. I tried already tried to update both GPU's drivers, BIOS drivers, reseted BIOS to default settings and change power settings to maximum but it still happens.

Inspiron 3537 fails to turn on

I have an Inspiron 3537 (4th gen i5, 4GB RAM, Radeon HD 8670M), which was still working fine last night. Since this morning, however, it does not turn on.

When I press the power button, the power led lights up (normal, white color) for 10 seconds, then turns off, and turns on again. This sequence repeats three times. After the third light-up, the led stays on.

There are no beeps. There is no fan activity, and the screen doesn't turn on either.

I've tried the recommended steps I've found on the product page's troubleshooting section: I've checked with and without the batteries, I've checked the power adapter (it works fine), and I've tried holding the power button for 10/20/60 sec without the battery and removing everything connected. None of them helped.

Dell Inspiron 15-7559, Will only first boot M.2 Slot over 2nd HDD

$

Hello,

Got the Dell Inspiron 15-7559

Standard with 100 gb 2,5 inch HDD.

Inserted a Kingston 2.5 inch HDD, works fine.

Now days later I also inserted a M.2. Sata SSD.

Both Disks work.

But when selectign legacy boot and first selecting the second HDD it does not boot up the 2nd HDD.

It gives an error message saying boot.msgr is missing.

Tried :

- Legacy mode, Secure mode on and off
- Turning back to Uefi mode with secure mode on and off

- Legacy mode and all kidns or boot orders.

When I press F12 at startup and go to boot selection and select 2nd HDD, there is no problem, it boots up my 2.5 inch ssd no problem.

Now I installed windows also on my M.2. Sata SSD and this one boots up fine in legacy mode. No issues at all.
But also now when setting 2nd HDD first it still boots up the m.2. And once again manually selecting the 2nd HDD at startup works fine.

I would like to use the 2.5inch ssd as boot device and the M.2. sata as storage.I have my reasons for this lol. :)

Can anybody supply me with some advice/help?

Thanks in advance!
