How to enable Latitude E7470 Lan/Wan switching?

We just received Dell 7470s in our environment, I did go to Power Management in the BIOS, and check both boxes under Wireless Radio control, but I have it on the wired network, and wifi is also connected. 

How do you configure the LAN/WAN switching on these models? Is there a step I missed? BIOS appears to be updated to the latest version as well.


Dell Tech Support won't provide BIOS unlock password for Precision M4400

I have a Precision M4400 and somehow the BIOS admin password is locked and I cannot access the BIOS settings anymore.I called Dell Support twice, spent a lot a time waiting on the phone, also waited weeks for a resolution to my request, and finally they won't provide a password even if I am willing to pay the fee for that.

Does anyone know an alternative solution?

Factory Installed Disk Partitions

I have a new XPS 15 9550 running Windows 10. It came out of the factory with two recovery partitions, in addition to the EFI partition and the C: drive. The first recovery partition is 450 MB, the second one is 11.5 GB. What are these used for, do I need these, where can I find more information about them?

I recieve my laptop yesterday fitted with a 128GB SSD and 1TB HDD, but instead of having the OS installed on the SSD, the OS is on the HDD.


TS has told me the only solution is to download an OS from the Dell website and create a bootable medium and install it and the subsequent Dell software and drivers (which I guess need to be downloaded one at a time and installed in the same manner). This is hours of work for a problem that Dell created and TS insists is a "software error" (which I guess broadly speaking it could be considered as such, but I'd rather see it as incompetence).


Is there a straightforward way I can get the image from the HDD to the SSD, and then just change the boot priority in the BIOS? I really don't want to spend half a day fixing Dell's error.

Hey, looking for some help with my laptop.  Lately it has had this problem of going to the lock screen while I'm using it.  I have looked into the power options and set them to Never on all options.  Any help with what this might be and how to fix it would be great! Thanks for everything!

XPS 12 9Q23 Hangs Intermittently After Resume from Sleep

I have an XPS 12 with an intermittent hanging problem after it resumes from sleep.  By intermittent hanging, I mean everything freezes up for 10-15 seconds at a time--no mouse movement, no keyboard input, no touch response, no screen updates.  When starting from a complete shutdown state, it does not exhibit this problem.

This started after upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.  So I did a clean install of Windows 10 from media I downloaded from MS.  The problem persists even after clean install.

If I uninstall Intel Dynamic Power and Thermal Framework (DPTF) drivers, this problem goes away.

OS fully updated.  Chipset drivers installed and updated.

Ideas?

Can I reinstall Alienware Command Center?

Sometime ago I had to make a restore and some programs got erased and with them Alien FX that's the one to manage the lights and all that of the laptop. so now I want to change them and be able to turn them off too but I cant find it as a driver. I updated the BIOS following a guide to do if the command center wasn't working but it didn't change anything pls help :/

Feature Request: Connect PC as Handsfree with Cell Phone

Hi,

Been doing lots of trial and error and done some googling about connecting cell phone and use the laptop speaker and mic as handfree / handset so that it can make calls and answering call without touching the phone itself.

This feature was working on 8.1 and on some cases it works with windows 7 as well.

However on Windows 10 this feature doesn't show up.

According to my understanding (I could be wrong) this isn't windows native feature it is up to the vendor to provide it, as my device is Broadcom based (DW1830) and after a bit of fiddling around I realize that it does support the Handsfree / Handset audio gateway profile, sadly the phone call / answering function just doesn't show up.

So, my request is to please make it into the windows 10! 

My Device:

XPS 15 9550 (bought it about 2 weeks ago)

p.s. I'm refering to Android phone only as I'm only using android as my mobile solution.

**I tried clean install the latest bluetooth driver / stack which downloaded off of Dell website, I am currently using Broadcom latest driver which is better than the one from Dell at least it provides a "new" function which can stream the audio from cell phone to the computer so I can listen my music using the laptop speaker**

screen flickering for dell precision m4600

My laptop screen start flickering a little 2 months ago and when i put it on sleep and open again the flickering pixels disappear and it works fine.i unchecked optimus nvidia from bios and it worked fine without any problem but it didn`t show that i use internal intel graphics card.it just show that i use the external nvidia quadro 1000m .yesterday i was watching a movie at my laptop and suddenly my screen flickered again but this time much hard and constant and not disappear by sleeping or restarting.can any one help me diagnosing this problem please.

Touch panel wire damaged: Dell XPS 15 9530

Hi, my XPS 15 9530 touch screen is not working anymore. The wire for the touch screen which emanates from the display panel and goes into the motherboard  seems to have burnt at a point. I am not sure why it burnt suddenly . Is there way I can change this wire without replacing the whole display unit?

Any help or suggestion is highly appreciated..

This is Sunil Sahoo. I bought a Dell Inspiron 7359 2-in-1 laptop from Amazon recently. When i purchased it come with 1 year warranty with "Return to Depot" Service.

Any One help me now how could i upgrade my warranty because i am moving to India in few month. Or is this create any problem while tag transfer.

Hello, 

My 9530 has the 32GB SSD + 1 TB setup.  

I'm looking to go all SSD.   But I haven't found any posts specifically addressing whether an NVMe m.2 drive is fully compatible with the 9530.  

I'm interested in a Samsung 950 for the speed benefits.   But it seems that they are power hungry and also have issued being recognized on certain XPS models.   Others seem to have gotten the 950 to boot, but aren't seeing the full performance.   Others say that the although the 950 has impressive benchmarks, the real word difference is negligible.  

Other posts seems to indicate that the Samsung 951 is more compatible.  

Please let me know what the best recommendation would be for optimal performance.  

Ideally I could swap the current drives out for a Samsung 950 (256 GB) and a Samsung 850 (1 TB). 

Or would I be better off with a Samsung 941, or 951 in place of the 950?

i have Dell inspiron N5010 and i can't charge it's battery.

when i plug in the ac adapter i get "plugged in not charging".

i have tried different charged,different batteries and all the youtube guides on how to fix the problem for example re installing the hardware driver.

has anyone ever experienced this problem and managed to fix it?

Hi,

I have Dell Inspiron 5559, when I use the Intel Driver Update Utility for scanning new driver updates, it find some new updates. The problem is that the can't be installed since probably they are not confirmed by the manufacture which is DELL.

My question is why the Drivers page in the support page is not update the drivers as they are from Intel?
(Focus on the Video drivers, but also the Wireless etc.)

nightmare with dell

I had a huge nightmare of  a day  on the phone with dell reps, and it wsn't because I'm a racist, it was due to communication failures because of bad English and thick accents. Again, that's not racist, its fact.

They are 'almost' always very kind and intelligent, but I had one person be very rude to me, and I won't forget it anytime soon. Maybe it was recorded, that would be  my proof. I didn't deserve it, but I got treated badly, and again treated badly by being called a racist , the post not let through, and so I have to waste yet more time, by typing this again. I seem to be contining to have a bad experience with dell, I wonder what's behind that. This isn't a 'grudge' post, its about truth and holding people accountable, but even through all of this, I'm not naming names I'm not that small, but I will not guarantee I won't elsewhere as I attempt justice. I didn't deserve it.

Now onto what started all of this:

Part ordered, then denied further part ordering due to ' transfer of ownership' for this laptop I bought on ebay, 8 yrs old, called # of back of unit, talked to campus police , asked for information on seller, I gave him what I had and they said they've had several thefts over 4 months, so I HOPE mine wasn't one of them, but we'll see. I doubt it, but anything is possible. The gentleman felt as I do, its prob. a false alarm, but they have to check.

I feel like I'm in a episode of the twilight zone ;) ( EEK!!)

Anyhoo, I needed a 'hdd1 carrier', which I asked for talking to dell reps on the phone, for over an hour, being shoved from one to the other, and trust me it was a Miserable experience.

They sent me hdd2 carrier, but I need hdd1 carrier, and finally someone , some incredibly nice well informed rep, finally gave me the answer, but I wanted to make sure is all:

The part # I was finally given is : FP444 , and I hope that's finally the correct one, and I hope they aren't out of it now, that would be my final irony, but I imagine they would have known that before giving me the info :) ( crosses fingers)  .

I really think I'm going to enjoy this massive 17" unit, as my friend has a D620 we got from swapping ( and I still miss it to this day in some ways)  for a imac 20" I got from freecycle . I'll never forget that day, it was something else, amazing generosity and genius bar even gave me a new (but old unit, not used) power supply as the imac intemitently would turn off. That's incredible customer service .

Anyway so , the reason I knew I had the wrong carrier, was the 'holes' do not line up, to snap the carrier in place as it did in hdd2.

I know dells hardware is worthy, so I'm moving on (trying to ), but let this be a lesson to companies hiring strategies, innocent customers often get shafted and have their free time devastated.

We all need jobs, I just hope for the future as companies  use strategies to maximize their profits that the innocent consumer isn't forgotten. I see it with Microsoft too, yet the only companies that aren't, atm anway, are apple and at&t  ( that I've seen) .

E5470 cannot create recovery media

Windows 7 pro 64bit.  Brand new, out of the box system, only installed VPN software and joined my work domain.  Trying to create recovery media on a brand new Sandisk 32Gb flash drive.  It works for a few min building it then fails saying I need to format it (it is).  I then can no longer read the flash drive.  I have to put it into an older laptop, and in disk manager create a new simple volume and format the drive again.  

I have updated all the drivers on the laptop.  Has anybody used this Dell app before with success?

Dell Inspiron 5737 HDD Problem

Hello Dell Comunity :) 

Please help me. 

I have a "Dell Inspiron 5737 (I577810DDL-24) Silver" less than 2 years. A few days ago, I got some very strange problems. The system began to "freezing". Worked only a mouse, and kept playing music from browser cache. All other applications was no longer responsible. I thought, that this is a problem of the system, made a hard reset (power button 5-8 sec), and it helped. I loaded Win 8.1 again, but the problem was repeated after 15-20 minutes. I booted from another system (I had also a Win 7 on other disk). But even on another OS problem repeated. Then I realized that the problem is serious, and began to follow closely what is happening. 

During these lockups, CPU and HDD had a normal temperature, but then I noticed that the hard disk drive indicator disappears. And no flashing. I spent several types of testing with an Auslogic tool and CrystalDiskInfo. These programs have shown good state of drive. I even did a defragmentation, but it did not help. 

After that, I noticed that the laptop actually works just fine, if it is stand on a flat table. But if I picked up the laptop to hands or just moved it on a table - system starts to freezing. 

Realizing this, I was even more convinced that the problem is somewhere in the hard drive. Few times on Win7 was a blue screen of death, and then appears error 'not boot devices found'. After hard rest, it loaded fine again. 

So, I decide to try a test with Dell Toolls when pressed F12 before bios was loaded. At the end of the testing it showed that all is fine, and asked if I wanted to continue the memory test (this may take a long time). I clicked yes, and 5 minutes later, I got an error: 

DST Long Test Fail 
Error Code: 2000-0151 
Validation: 90295 
Msg: Hard Drive 0 - S/N Z3IRTDRMTM, incorrect status = 32 
No additional sense information 

I rebooted the laptop after this testing, put it on the table, and made a backup of all data to my external USB hard drive. Looks like about 400-500 Gb of data was successfully copied. Now, as laptop not under warranty, I want to ask you, what I need to do. I tried to reconnect the drive and clean contacts, but it did not help. 

So what is this? Should I buy new hard drive? If so, what a model? How to install the Dell utilities to the new drive? In what order to do it?
