Inspiron 11 - 3147 System BIOS Version A10

Is it safe? A09 killed my system's configuration. I had to DOS boot, re-flash and re-install the OS because it wouldn't boot no matter what I tried. I don't feel too bad, since I read others had the same exact issue.

Currently, I'm on A06 or A07.

Seeking risk-taker feedback. Did A10 kill your system or is it running smoothly? Is it worth the risk?

Thanks!

P.S. My suggestion to Dell is to pull A09. Read all the complaints about it via search.

Inspiron 15547 hinge/case joint failing

I'm having the exact problem found here:

Mine is just at an earlier stage.  I'm very frustrated since the computer has been used gently in the almost-year I've had it.  In addition, this Dell replaced an HP with an identical problem!  HP never "owned it", so I'm hoping Dell will do better.

How to use 8.1 recovery disk on vostro 3558 that came with windows 7

So my vostro 3558 came with windows 7 installed.  However, on the bottom of the laptop, near the service tag, it says windows 8 and it also came with an 8.1 red operating system recovery disk, which says on the disk label, "already installed on your computer".

I have 3 questions.

1. First, why does it have windows 7, and labled as windows 8?

2. If I had to replace my hard drive, can this disk be used to install windows 8.1 on a new hard drive, or will it only reinstall windows 7 on it?

3. Can I use this disk to upgrade from windows 7 to windows 8.1?

Lack of PgUp/PgDown/Home/End keys PAIN

Hi!

Is it possible to send feedback to Dell R&D or whoever decides about the keyboard design?

I want to say that the lack of dedicated PAGE UP/PAGE DOWN/HOME/END keys on 15" laptops (like XPS 15 9530/9550) is a big PAIN... It is SO inconvenient...

The old keyboard layout like one on older Studio XPS 1645 was IDEAL...

So DELL PLEASE return that layout back!!

Dell Latitude E7470 Drivers and MDT

Hello Everyone,

We just got a shipment of Dell Latitudes E7470's since 5450's got discontinued apperatly and I am trying to set up imaging for it using MDT. My main pain point seems to be the drivers. When you download the CAB drivers for the laptop from Dell's website there seems to some drivers that are corrupt and cause BSOD (basically most of the intel drivers) and I was only able to get around it by downloading the drivers straight from Intel and replacing them one by one. However, I am still having some issues with Display driver and the BcmNFCBus_257 drivers. Curiously enough when I install them using the exe (Security_Driver_3N9T0_WN64_4.2.9.52_A04 and Video_Driver_0RC06_WN32_20.19.15.4390_A01) everything installs just fine. However when I extract the drivers from the exe and apply them that way they do not want to install. I contacted Dell regarding the CAB drivers and they are going to replace them at some point but I cant be the only one in this position.

As such I was wondering if anyone ran into this problem or which CAB drivers do you currently use for these systems for imaging as I have been trying to get this working for over a week with minimal success.

I guess I should also mention that the Security_Driver_3N9T0_WN64_4.2.9.52_A04 actually contains the drivers for both BcmNFCBus_257 as well as CVUSBDRVBus_513 of which only the latter seem to get installed.

Thanks,

Update:

I just used driverquery before and after running the installers and it seems that the only difference between the two is:

and

Dell XPS 15 (9550) - Coil Whine & other issues

My Dell XPS 15 has an annoying "electrical buzzing" (coil whine).

The sound is only noticeable in a quiet environment but like most people that is the environment I do most my work in. Touching the touchpad (i.e. using the mouse) causes coil whine, holding down backspace causes coil whine, ANY user interaction with the notebook causes coil whine.

When left untouched I can hear subtle coil whine that peaks every second, but I consider that an acceptable level of sound as.

HERE -  This post suggests the cause is a faulty charger. I have had my XPS 9550 for near six months! Six months on a faulty power adapter due to the quality control on Dell's top of the line notebook.

What kind of damage could this have caused to the battery & other components?

Other Issues I've experienced with the DELL XPS 15 9550

- Speakers had terrible buzzing (software patch to fix this appears to be just lowering the maximum volume)

- Bluetooth Devices fail to connect but work fine with other PC's (Razer Orochi)

- Heavy Battery usage & overheat while it should be sleeping or off during transport (appears to be fixed)

- Display was replaced due to dead pixels in center of the screen. (CENTER - QC missed that on a 3K machine?)

This is the best Dell has to other in their Notebook range, I purchased such a expensive device because I expected the flagship notebooks to have a high standard of quality but as many other users seem to be reporting the quality control is just atrocious.

I had to keep moving my last repair service appointment and eventually canceled it due to personal issues preventing me from being available and I seriously regret that.

The XPS 15 is otherwise a excellent notebook with brilliant design and extreme power for it's size and does so with acceptable temps & acoustics (fan noise wise, coil whine is another story!) barring the QC issues I honestly think is the best ultrabook on the market.

What are my options here at the 6 Month mark? I feel like I was sold a lemon can I return it for a refund or a replacement? I would also be happy if a tech could come out and sort out all of my issues but at this point I don't know how much damage has been done to the machine by the faulty power adapter it was provided with.

Thank you for any suggestions, advice and support!

Battery not charging: is it DC power jack or motherboard fault?

When I boot my Inspiron 15R-5537, I get this message:

"The AC adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for the best system performance."

The AC adapter (it is a 90-watt AC adapter) does not charge the battery and the laptop keeps in low-power mode, it is, the CPU clock gets stuck at 780 MHz, while it can go up to 2,3 GHz in full power mode. When I say it doesn't charge the battery, I mean it starts charging for a while, and then the power LED turns off and the battery icon says  it's connected, but not charging. I've already bought a new 90-watt charger directly from Dell and it didn't fix the issue. When I use the battery alone, the CPU can get to 2,3 GHz just fine, meaning it isn't the battery either.

So I'm left with two options: it's either the DC jack, or the motherboard. From what I've read, this DC jack has a hole in the centre which receives the pin in the AC adapter connector, and this pin tells the laptop which is the wattage the power adapter can supply, which is 90 W for this laptop model.

Do you think replacing this jack can solve this issue, or is most likely a hardware issue with the motherboard?

This is what I'm talking about:

It looks like neither of the drivers above support bluetooth in Windows 10 Home 64-bit, but someone might be able to help.

The WiGig card's driver is the latest, and the 3YX8R cannot be detected by any means!

Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot.

Hey guys,

So I have a Dell Inspiron 15 (7547) and the wireless card in it is slowly dying. I need some advice as to which WLAN cards to buy and use for this computer as my internet searching skills have fallen short to find some.

Any help is greatly appreciated, Thank you ahead of time

This may not be the best place for this question, but my new XPS 13 9350 keeps throwing my out of my email. I've signed in, see I have emails, click to enter, and am continually redirected to reenter my password. Signed in through another device, no issue. Has anyone else had a similar situation? Thanks.

XPS 12 - turns off while starting

The long story short: right in the middle of browsing my notebook just clicked through the speakers and went off.

Now, when I hit power button, it starts to load, then in random time from 1 to 15 seconds - click and goes off.

Thried that a dozen times, same result. Battery was fully charged in the morning, now it is at 85% (one attempt it loaded to Windows, and I immediately looked at the battery status, then a click happened again and it went off).

I'm quite confused and lost, what should be done?
