I am having a lot of issues with my new XPS 13. The computer is not going to sleep after having the laptop lid closed, it just burns through its power supply. I have checked all setting and it should not be doing this.

Also, I am having wake up issues sometimes when I close it and open it up again within a short frame of time, say, 5-10 minutes. The screen will remain black and I will have to restart the machine.

Is there a patch or driver I can install to resolve this? This is really frustrating from such a high-end machine, opening and closing should be the least of my concerns...

Since installing a Dell update on about May 2 my laptop turns off when it should sleep. This happens every time the top is closed or the machine is idle for a while. Anything I'm working on is lost.

The power and sleep buttons and lid settings are all set to sleep.  Hybrid sleep is turned off.

I have tried to do a system restore but get a message saying the disc is corrupt and to run chkdsk. Chkdsk says there is nothing wrong with the disc.

I'm running an Inspiron 3147 with Windows 8.1

What's my next step please?

Does Dell offer a factory restore option with just the Dell drivers installed and no extras? HP offers this with their factory restore option. Hoping Dell offers it as well? If not. Doing a clean install of just Windows 10 seems a bit tricky? Dell lists a ton of drivers to install.

Finally. I bought a 16GB usb flash drive and made a backup of the factory recovery partition. I suppose it is now safe to remove and give me some extra space? The laptop was ordered with a 256GB ssd. Currently have 199GB of space left.  

Hello, my question is simple.  Is it possible to upgrade the 1366x768 screen in my E6440 to either a 1600x900 or 1080x1920 screen?

My system has the i5 processor and integrated graphics.  Would upgrading the resolution put undue stress on the system and result in overheating?  Which connector (30 or 40 pin) is in my system?  Any thoughts on glossy vs matte?  I won't be using it outside much...at least that is not the plan.

Hi, I have a XPS 13 9343 (i5/QHD) purchased refurbished from 3rd party, recently installed clean W10.

The Dell tool indicates to me that I should be installing:

9343_Network_Driver_WD22T_WN32_7.35.333.0_A03.EXE

Installing I get failure log at the bottom.

Via Device Manager as mentioned the WiFi adapter under Network is not there, scanning for hardware changes does not help.

I have tried manually installing inf files but I don't get any options under "Model" when I try to install it through legacy hardware.

I'm starting to think the Wifi/Bluetooth component is either faulty or entirely missing from the vendor (I have not opened it up and wouldn't know how to diagnose this myself).

I've attached a separate wifi dongle which works as does connecting to Ethernet via a USB adapter.

Any other ideas of what it could be? Thanks.

I sent my laptop for repairs as there was an issue with the WiFi connectivity.It was supposed to be returned to me in 15 business days,but it was returned after a month and a half. When i received my laptop, the operating system installed wasn't the correct version and I also did not have the product key for the same (Since the version was different than the previously installed one, the product key in MSDM  was different  and did not work).On contacting customer care, i was transferred from one department to another and their final solution was to have me send the laptop back to their service center. This was after 4-5 hours on the phone with the customer care and after having to explain my problems around 9-10 times. I just received my laptop after a month and half and i have to send it again!! What kind of customer service is this!!!! Installing a legitimate version of Windows(which i have paid for) is common sense!

Customer service is supposed to resolve issues,not introduce new ones. This is extremely irritating .I have tried being patient for over a month.I have been extremely inconvenienced due to this.I am a student and I am behind on my work due to such issues.

Looks like Dell does not want to retain its customers!

I have a Dell Latitude E6440 , i5, Windows 7 64 bit laptop.

I'm trying to startup it up and i get the message "PXE-E61 : Media Test Failure, Check Cable".

When i check BIOS, i only have CD and NIC listed with no HDD, meaning the HDD is not detected. I do not want to open up the laptop and check the connections because this may make the Warranty invalid.

Please assist in sending an Engineer to have a look at it. Our Offices are based in Dubai.

1.   have the Dell control vault file from the Dell support site already downloaded in a separate folder or drive.

you do NOT want the "DDPA" or "firmware update" or ""control point" files!

2.  the Dell file is not the "latest" USH driver, but do NOT install a later version yet!   (such as you will find using driver updaters).  

the original Dell file will install BOTH the Windows Biometric control vault and driver, and also install the Dell Controlvault and driver.   do you need both of those?   YES.

so what happens if you do install the 'new' Dell controlvault version first?   the new version will NOT install the Windows Biometric, which means your fingerprint scanner won't work!

3.  so when installing Windows 10, do NOT connect to the internet.  you want to first install the Dell controlvault that you downloaded earlier from Dell support.   if you connect to the internet before that, Windows 10 is going to find and install the 'new' version, leaving you without a working fingerprint.

4.  you are now able to go to settings, accounts, signin and be able to see "hello" fingerprint signin choice.  go ahead and install your fingerprints now, before any internet connection.

5.  later if you wish, you can then put in the new Dell controlvault version you find on driver updaters.  you will see both the Dell and the Windows controlvaults available for updates.   do NOT update the USH for Windows!   only the Dell one.  if you update the Windows driver it will kill your Dell fingerprint functions.

finally i am not sure about this but i think if you accidentally did install a newer version, either from windows updating the drivers by itself or because you used a "driver updater" software, you might be able to cure it by installing the older Dell controlvault file from the support site.   again, you do NOT want "DDPA" and all the others; just Controlvault.

Hello, I have a Dell 1749 laptop with an Intel i5 CPU 2.40 Ghz M 520. My computer is also equipped with a Samsung SSD 840 Evo and 4GB Ram. For various reasons (delays in the use of music editing software among others), I think about change the CPU and install a more powerful one. Just got my laptop 2 days ago and the first day it seemed to work just fine, though the fans would turn on once in awhile and are very loud.  But now they seem to be on more often than not while just doing simple things like typing this message in a web browser.  Even now temps are 62C, then jumping to 74C and up to 94C when I open a new tab and close it using ctl+t, ctl+w.

I am using Intel XTU (Extreme Tuning Utility) to monitor it and see that Thermal Throttling is happening fairly often and my CPU Utilization is staying pretty low generally below 10%, sometimes peaking to 25% like when I open/close a new tab.  Just repeatedly opening/closing a new tab 5-10 times got all cores peaking above 90C which kicks the fans into overdrive.

A review I saw on youtube showed the fans are silent while idle and the reviewer claims the fans rarely turn on unless you go into the BIOS and enable fan performance mode.  Is there something wrong with this unit causing the temp to be so high?

The LCD of my laptop started displaying pink and black spots on the screen two days back. These spots pooped in all of a sudden and continue to remain there. One of them are the at the left hand side top , other three almost at the middle as pointed put in the yellow colored circles.

Also there's a pink colored delineation of roughly 1 cm at the bottom of the LCD screen. This vertical and horizontal pink lines have persisted for more than 2 months. 

However there's no problem in functioning. 

Help would be really appreciated.

Hello, I have an XPS 15 9550. Sometimes, I use some programs that cause the computer to heat up a little bit, expecially the case in the lower part. Therefore, I would like to purchase a notepad cooler in order to help the laptop to cool when it needs. I don't know which one I should buy. Probably I should buy a notepad cooler that has fans in the lower part of the keyboard (not close to the screen) in order not to interfere with the fans of the computer. 

Does any of you have experienced a similar problem? Does any of you have bought a notepad cooler? Which one is the best?

I'm the owner of an Inspiron 7520 that I've buied in 2012. I've tried to update my win7HP 64bit SO to win10 on line.

The process has been aborted, I don't know why. Now when I try to power it on my Inspiron shows the DELL logo, then a black screen with a flashing cursor and that's all.

I cannot access recovery menu by pressing F8.

I've tried to install win10 ISO by CD but it doesn't work.

I've tried also to install win7 by the original CD and it apparently works. It starts the installation but then it asks certified drivers. I've tried to insert the CD containing the original drivers by DELL and also to insert a CD containing the SATA controller drivers but it cannot find the drivers.

Can anyone please help me??? Thank you.
