Hi. I have an Inspiron 15R SE coming (see evalue code DNDOM12S.) I understand it has a 1 TB 5400 rpm internal SATA 2 drive. The general page links to reviews that mention the 32g mSATA so I didn't realize that the system apparently DID come with a drive with a mSATA petition but no longer does. 

I would like to install a an SSD since I have a crazy amount of NAS space.  I would like to know:

If I get an mSATA drive will the system I referenced above have the correct daughter board / port to install?

If yes, can I an SATA 3 SSD and get the faster transfer speeds?

If no, what's the part number of the daughter board I would have to order and install to use an mSATA drive?

Would it make more sense to get a caddy for the optical drive and install an SSD there? Is that also an SATA 2 connection or will a SATA 3 drive work in the optical bay?

Also I thought I read somewhere that the BIOS can not be set to boot from the optical drive caddy? Is this true?

Does anyone know how to disable the default monitor on an Inspiron 660, it doesn't give you the option in its BIOS. I setup a GTX 650 in my PC and really want the benefit of using it fully however the default monitor keeps popping up even when not connected. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello dell community, I am new here and just want some help from experts to get things right after all I didn't find any help after a hour long search in internet.
I am using dell 15R 3521 model with pre-installed windows 8 and everything was right until I make some updates in windows 8 through windows online update. Now the problem is I can't turn ON my bluetooth driver with keys, mobility center, windows 8 settings, so what I hear was the fault in windows 8 update itself which created this bluetooth bug in all system from online forums. I wanted to reinstall the bluetooth driver so I uninstalled it but I have no way to intsall it back.
If anyone could help me installing bluetooth back and making bluetooth work again in my laptop.

I recently purchased xtw with win 8 pro. Touch and pen worked and it seemed like a great buy, but the touch quit working. The pen works fine. I've tried several drivers but nothing seems to work. Win 8 pro was on machine when I bought it. This swwms like a great laptop for win 8 if I could only get it to work. Does anyone have an idea whats wrong?

Hello,

First of all i "say" apologies for my bad english knowledge i hope u can understand me.
I'd looked a main topic for my question but i didn't find. I'm sorry for administrators.

I bought a Inspirion 15R (5521, intel i5, ati radeon 8750) with OEM ubuntu 12.04 LTS one week ago. This operating system is would be fine for me but got a problem.
Ubuntu's grapics interface is using only my Ati radeon 8750 VGA. Consequently my notebook is very noisy all time and hot after 1-2 hours use and bettry life is shorter than Windows:( In Windows everything is OK:
Is it possible to use only Intel HD 4000 GPU or both of them? (Primary Intel, Secondary Ati if necessary)

Will you support newer versions of ubuntu with drivers and softwares in the future via a repository? I mean 13.04 or next LTS version.

After performing a pc checkup because the pages on internet search engines were "not responding", I found the checksum and pattern tests failed. I ordered a new cmos battery and that did not work. Same fail results, I ordered another battery and I still get the same fail results.  Any suggestions?

 Hi folks, my first post - I recently bought a Dell i15RV - 1382 BLK from MicroCenter and according to their website it included an 8 in 1 card reader that says

Card Reader	8-in-1 Memory Card Reader -
Media Supported	Secure Digital MMC Memory Stick Memory Stick PRO xD SDHC SDXC

  after spending a half day wondering why I couldn't get my xD card to insert - I found (with magnifying glass) the following on the front of laptop above the card reader slot - SD/MMC-MSPro - so I assume that MicroCenter's web site is incorrect and I didn't get a card reader that will accept my xD picture card - I feel kinda

stupid. Was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks, Jimmy

I've been doing some research, but I need a bit of clarification. I have a Vostro 3460, and I would like to fit a backlit keyboard. 

I know the 9MN92 is the US layout keyboard for this model, but I can't find a UK layout part number, or compatible. 0RNPJ3 and RNPJ3 look like possibilities but are they compatible? Has anyone fitted one to a 3460? 

Any info would be helpful

This problem is obviously very common based on the number of  posts I have read about it. What can be done to fix the problem? All of my work is done on this laptop. I cannot afford to waste any more time trying to fix the issue. Is Dell taking care of this faulty model?

Hello,

i've noticed that the new alienware 18 laptop's  keyboard doesn't have those white squares on the keys.

i quite liked the old way, because it really made the keyboard stand out, seem unique.

is there a way to get a new keyboard for the alienware 18 with the old look?

Hey, I bought a M14X alienware off my friend, and it ran all games (League of Legends, Minecraft, BLOPS II) smoothly at 80+ FPS. Now, when I even open a browser my cores  are running extremely hot. I have cleaned out my fans with compressed air. What I am thinking now is there may be some issue with the thermal paste. Just want to make sure before I take any action. Is there something else that might be causing this?

Hello,

I've just bought a new XPS L421x with windows 7, intel i7, 8GB RAM, and 1 GB dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M. I have been using it for a week and this laptop is not what i've expected at all.

First the screen is pixelating the images and videos. I ran the same movie on a Samsung laptop (which has same resolution) and also connected my Dell with the TV to compare the screens. The difference was so obvious. My Dell is pixelating the videos and images. Also, there is problem (figured it out by comparing the 3 screens). When there is scene played in dark conditions, the image is simply absolute black. The actors shadows moving around are not apparent (and the fame video file runs perfect on the other two screens).  And when i played with contrast and brightness till the videos became (stupidly) bright, the dark scene are still abnormally black. As if the pixels that should be dark and the pixels around them just turned off.

Second, it's overheating. I ran the laptop on the balanced power plan while just browsing on wifi and the CPU temperature (according to My Dell) is 70-72 celsius just after 30 mins from turning on the laptop. and when i am installing any software or copying files from the portable HarDisk it reaches 90 degrees. I am having it on a flat desk. Also, it's not just the processor that's hot, the outside case is extremely hot too. Like it burns when i tried to have the laptop on my lap. Not to mention that the fans are running at full speed and extremely annoying. And i am even more annoyed knowing that they are not even cooling the laptop down.

Third, the battery works for max 3 hours on the balanced power plan and 4 on the power saver plan with just browsing on wifi. Now Dell claims that the battery lasts for 11 hours and i know it's marketing <ADMIN NOTE: Substitute character removed as per TOU> . But i thought it would at least survive for 6 hours with normal usage on the balanced power plan. I am sorry but if the current lifetime of my battery is normal, then DELL is lying and misleading it's customers by it's false claims in the ads.

There is something terribly wrong with my laptop and this is my first purchase from Dell and it will be the last unless the technical support people (thankfully) save me. Please help. I've updated the Bios, two graphics drivers, audio driver, and the chipset. Still no change in any of the previous mentioned problems

Hello.

My Inspiron N5110 laptop has a weird issue.

At very rare times, my laptop shuts down after I put it on sleep mode.

I know when it's happening because the power light doesn't flash.

When I turn it on again I receive the Windows message that has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.

As far as I remember it happened 4-5 times.

All of the times I only had Firefox (with lots of tabs) running and nothing else.

By the way, my laptop had other issues in the past including, problems in the fan, -and since the day I bought it-, it had speakers and hard disk problems.

I got these parts replaced and they seem to be running in diagnostics with no errors (except for the fan which still makes weird loud noises, might have to replace it again).

If this also helps, my laptop is always plugged in.

It's very important for me to get it fixed because I am a student and don't want to lose anything important.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1300 that has been giving me trouble.  I ran a diagnostic from the BIOS and it said that the "Start DSI Short Test failed". 

Could someone tell me what this is, and if it is repairable.  Thanks.

I have a dell N5010 laptop.  I started getting the blue screen of death.  I ran malwarebytes and my antivirus on it with no avail.  Now I don't know what I've done. I was able to boot up in safe mode but now the only thing I can do is get into the bios but can't get it to do anything else.  Anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I get to a screen that has Realtek PCIe FE family controller series v1.19 but won't load past that.  I need help!!!

Hello,

My Dell INSPIRON 15R gives 8 beeps on start up while the display does not work. I understand this does indicate an issue with the lcd. However, when I connect it to an external monitor there is no display on the monitor either but strangely it works when connected to a projector. I tried with several monitors and the result was the same, and it continues to work with the projector. Request assistance on this issue.

 My hard drive on my Dell Inspiron N4010 crashed. Best Buy is installing a new hard drive but need the Recovery Disks. They suggested that Dell would be able to help me on getting a new disk. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!
