Update M3800 RAM - Warranty doubt

Dear all,

I bought one year ago my M3800, with the extended warranty for two years (including extra damage etc.).

Now I would like to update the RAM to 16GB but I'm worried about the cited warranty. Do I need to pass through DELL Italy to perform the upgrade or can I simply buy all the needs on Amazon and upgrade it by myself?

Dell Inspiron Needs Windows 7 Reinstall

How to go about reinstalling Windows 7 on an Inspiron laptop.  No disks received with laptop,  No need to backup files (it's been a solitaire machine) but it's messed up.  Want to just re-do and make it like-new.

New laptop battery won't charge past ~83%

I just got a new, 6-cell battery  to replace the original one in my Dell 3521 laptop. The old battery only lasted for about 1.5 hrs at full charge, and this one seems to do better, but it doesn't even charge to 100% other than the first time I put it in. Once it discharged after that initial charge, it started only charging to about 83% but never exactly the same amount each time. It's not the plug- the old battery still charges fine with it and will charge to 100%. It's not the Dell longevity mode or desktop mode either, as that's turned off. After charging up to 83%, it gives a message of "plugged in, not charging" and "Battery charging disabled" in the "status" window. I've already tried discharging the battery to 0% to try to reset the calibration, but that did not help. I've also tried resetting the battery by unplugging the laptop, removing the battery, holding down the power button, and putting everything back in. I have updated my BIOS to the latest version; still nothing. Any thoughts?

XPS 13 L322X touchpad or cursor issue

I bought my XPS 13 L322X about two years ago and loved it at first but it wasn't long before I started experiencing issues with the computer deselecting the window I was in then hearing "ding ding ding ding" as my fingers kept moving before I realized what had happened. After a few weeks of this I went back to my old laptop to try and find a solution but eventually gave up. Fast forward to now and my old laptop is dead and I have what should be a perfectly good ultrabook as my only option now.

So to cut to the chase, I am wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and has found a satisfactory solution? I assumed the problem was the touchpad issue that I have been reading about but it seems to happen even if I don't touch the touchpad. I upgraded to Windows 10 thinking the issue might be software and not hardware related. I haven't fully tested it yet but was hoping someone might have some information to share.

I'd really rather not have to buy a new computer but this issue is really frustrating and makes the computer unuseable for most tasks.

Dell XPS 9530 Some keys stopped working

Hello. I purchased my laptop a year ago and now it is out of warranty. Several keys on the keyboard have stopped working or sometimes produce wrong characters. I went to the service center and the technician told me that the keyboard cable is broken and needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, Dell rejected my prepaid order, saying something like parts for this model are no longer produced. What do I do now? Is it maybe possible to get an english keyboard from the US as the local service most likely requested the keyboard with a ukrainian layout? This notebook cost me around $2500. Very frustrating to have it broken so soon and receive no support from Dell. 

Inspiron N5050 shows wrong hard drive capacity

I put a new 1tb hard drive in my Inspiron N5050 to replace the 500gb one. I moved all my content to the new hard drive using the repair disc and system image I made from the old hard drive. Now when I go into "computer" it still shows the 500gb (actually 468gb) hard drive not the 1tb hard drive. How do I get the computer to recognize the proper hard drive capacity? Sorry if I posted in the wrong place, I wasn't sure where to put this post since it could be in several places.

XPS13 / TB15 Charging

I purchased the XPS13 / TB15 (180W) for the docking capability / replacement of my desktop.  My configuration is the TB15 connected to 2 monitors, Ethernet, lighted keyboard, mouse, and speakers.

Having read many of the problems experienced with the TB15, I did the step-by-step driver installation prior to connecting the TB15.  The installation worked almost perfectly.  I did have a problem with the second monitor being identified, but a simple reconnect of the Display Port cable solved that problem.

My current problem with this configuration is that my XPS13's battery drains when connected.  It shows that it is plugged in, but the battery power still drains.  I thought perhaps this might have been that I have a 180W verses the 240W power adapter.  Thinking that there might be too much drain from the peripherals, I purchased an external USB 3.0 powered hub, but this did not help.  I still need to connect the regular power adapter to keep the XPS13 working.

My question is on the power adapter for the TB15.  Would the 240W adapted allow the XPS13 to charge when connected to the TB15?  After reading a Dell Linux forum, the TB connector has limited current, so the 180W/240W only make a difference with the connected peripherals, e.g. external hard drives.  

Perhaps I am missing a Bios configuration to allow charging or some other software configuration.  Does anyone else have this problem?

All USB ports no longer recognized by Windows 10

Wireless mouse DOES work in start-up diagnostic screen

Windows 10 installed JAN 2016 after hard disk replaced.  USB ports worked fine.  

Signals from external drive and flash drives flickered for approx. 3 weeks before drives were no longer recognized.


Machine Type: Dell 17r 5720
All machine drivers are updated from Dell Support including:

-Series/C216 Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1E2D & 1E26 updated
-Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader updated
All Generic and Root Hub drivers installed

Dell System Detect does not install on Windows 10

Hardware failure?

Dell inspiron n7010 Memory upgrade issue

I have a Dell Inspiron n7010 and just purchased this memory  Kingston ValueRAM 8GB (1x8GB) 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 SODIMM Notebook Memory KVR1333D3S9/8G

.  the computer will not boot i get the reboot issue, i am running windows 10.  Also it will not boot in Ubuntu.  So I suppose i got the wrong memory. 

Bios is recognizing the memory but other than that I am having issues 

Please help me fix the issue if possible. . 

I thought after reading that this memory would work fine,  IF NOT  please provide me with information as to which memory will work for the machine A 1 8gb chip would be cool,  but if i need two 4 gig chips that's fine.

I m using dell inspiron 15 3537 since last couple years now and never had a problem but couple of days back while surfing.. suddenly my screen turned pinkish and strats flickring i tried all above given methods but nothing helps.. my service tag is <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>

For the last month I have been running down reasons why my fan is very active.  
After Malwarebytes, virus checks & Dell Diagnostics.  Windows now updates, a virus/trojan has been eliminated.  Now the fan is much better behaved, mostly idling.  
My last 'rundown' is Chrome Browser which seems to absorb cpu up to 75%, keeps MsMpSvc also at a high level and the fan intermittently works hard.
I googled HwInfo and, I understand there is a Dell fan monitoring problem that may be enabled by using the Dell interface.  I haven't been able to work out if my Dell will report fan speeds (I don't want to control them).

I downloaded HwInfo and I am pleasantly astounded at the enormous amount of information available.

Meandered through Google, found reference to monitoring fan speeds using Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, downloaded and it failed to install.

Intel core duo CPU P8700@2.53GHz, 4GB 800 MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Ram, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS, 17" Widescreen WXGA+(1,440 x 900), HD 320GB (used 92GB) Serial ATA FFS (7,200 RPM), Wireless 802.11 a/g/DraftN mini card.

I would be grateful for any suggestions how to monitor the fan speed.

Alienware 17 GPU Fan Not Working ePSA Error 2000-0511

I recently discovered my GPU fan stopped working and does not spin at all. When I look in MSI afterburner or HWiNFO it says the fan is at 100% but it is not moving at all. I tried flashing latest BIOS and am now on version A14 but still no go.

I then ordered a brand new fan and replaced the old fan and yet it is still now working. I ran ePSA diagnostics with the new fan and am getting the following error.

Error Code 2000-0511

Validation 130354

Msg: Fan - The [Unknown Fan] fan failed to respond correctly.

I have tried reflashing the BIOs to A14 after installing the new fan and it still does not work.

Please let me know what the next troubleshooting steps are.

TB15 works fine with XPS 9350 if wifi is disabled

After making sure that the pc was fully updated has the TB15 worked fine with 2 monitors and LAN connected, as long as Wifi is disabled. It's OK just to diable the WifI via the button in the message area.

If I enable Wifi do I get disconnected/connected about every 10 minutes


Is there a version of the Dell inspiron 7559 without the gtx 960m graphics card?

Guys I messed up real bad... I saved up money for a year to buy this laptop and finally yesterday ordered it in ebay, and afterwards going through the details I noticed it didn't say that it had the gtx 960m video card but rather intel HD graphics built in. The price is the same as the other versions of the laptop with the gtx on eBay and I just happened to be a complete moron not checking twice as I should've and order this particular version http://www.ebay.com/itm/272181768757?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT


My question is does it even exist? Dell 7559 without the gtx 960m? It's the same price as the ones with the gtx video card.

I don't even know what to do...

I bought a XPS13 back in June 2015a and am not happy with it at all. There seems to be a constant lag/stutter. Have been through this with Dell support a couple of times but they don't seem to be able to assist.

So I am thinking of doing a clean install of Win7, currently using Win10 upgraded from Win8. Win8 came with the purchase.

I am wanting advice on a couple of things:
1. Will I be able to install a new Win7 without any of the Dell stuff?
2. After installing Win7. Can I just go to Dell's website and download all the firmwares for this particular model?
3. I also bought MS Office 2013 with the purchase of the laptop. It is an OEM license. Can I install Office again and use the license?

Retrieve COA via Service Tag

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a used Dell laptop. It says that there is no OS and no COA... 

I don't know if they are aware that there should be a recovery partition or that the COA is supposed to be located (on this model, since I have another one identical) under the battery...

BUT, in the case that they really don't have the recovery partition and the COA under the battery, is it possible to get it (or another one) via the Service Tag/Express Service Code?

Problem with reaching sign in screen on laptop (new)

I likely exceeded password attempts to log in and now I have a constant screen showing "restarting". I need to stop this and be able to log in properly with the correct password.
