XPS 13 9350 Dell Command Update: Intel 100 series chipset driver 10.1.1.13 / Installation Doesn't Take

Using Dell Command Update on my XPS 13 9350, the Intel 100 series chipset driver ver. 10.1.1.13 keeps coming up as a recommended update and after installing it, and then checking again for updates, it comes up again as a recommended update, so the installation is not succeeding.  Having said that, it now appears in the update history (in the Command Update app) as having been installed 3 times, so what gives, Dell?

No boot and no F12 boot menu any more after Boot Option Priorities is filled with >100 "Windows Boot Manager" items_Dell XPS 12 Win8.1

Hello everybody,

After restoration to Windows 8.1 (from Win10) I started to get an error "Windows failed to start... The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or...". F12 opened a boot menu with the UEFI OS and many identical "Windows Boot Manager" options. UEFI OS selection resulted in normal Win 8.1 bootup.

However, after a last update, the system is unbootable. Moreover, with every reboot ~10 new "Windows Boot Manager" items appears in the Boot Option Properties list of the BIOS. Since a certain number (~80), F12 stopped working while booting.

Attempt to delete one of these items in "File Browser Del Boot Option" hangs BIOS.

Toggling Secure Boot does not help, Loading BIOS Defaults does neither resets the Boot Option list nor resolves the issue.

Adding a new boot item manually (e.g. USB) is not allowed (the message "Out of Max Count" appears).

Any suggestions?

The Laptop (SPS 12-9Q33, BIOS A06, i7-4510) is still on warranty.

Dell Inspiron 7520SE with Full HD Display

I would be most grateful if anyone can help with this problem. Thanks in advance.

My Dell 7520 display screen only works in a certain position. When I tilt the screen up or down to any other position, the screen display gets all jittery or unreadable.

The Dell support guy came home last week and said the problem could be with the screen or the cable.

1. He first replaced the screen with a 1366X768 display, which worked fine. But that was unacceptable to me because of the nature of what I do on the computer.

2. He came the next day with a Full HD screen, but that didn't help. The problem persisted.

3. He then tried changing the cable, but it led to a different problem of a black or blue screen.

4. I asked him if the cables for the 1920X1080 display and the 1366X768 display are different. He did not have an answer to that. He phoned his supervisor, who was equally clueless on this.

Does any anybody know if the cables are different? And if so, would they be in a position to tell me what part number I could ask the support guy to bring.

Another problem was that my original laptop has a matte screen while the support guy insists that the replacement screens come only in the glossy finish. Is this true?

Inspiron N5110 dead motherboard?

0

I was given an Inspiron N5110 that apparently has a dead motherboard. There is absolutely no signs of life from it on AC or battery. It has the CN-0VVN1W motherboard in it. I've found several different versions ebay, but I don't know if I have to have the EXACT same model or not? It has an Intel cpu and that's all I know. Which is the best board to replace with IF I can replace with a different model? Does mine have the Nvidia or Intel GPU?

Thanks

Touchpad issues - Windows 10

Hi,

I upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday (bit late to the party) and have noticed I'm having issues with my touchpad. I get the black arrows caused by virtual scrolling and the general settings are not the same as I had before.

It's a Synaptics touchpad, and if memory serves I think I found a work around to enable me to access the (much better) Synaptics device settings before, as opposed to having to rely on Dell's Pointing Devices Software.

Is there a way to access the Snyaptics device settings or am I stuck with just using Dell's software? If so, is there a way to get rid of the awful black arrows that appear when I have virtual scrolling?

Thanks

Latitude e7404 Wireless Does Not Automatically Connect.

I have a couple of Latitude e7404 Rugged Laptops running windows 7 32-bit and I am having trouble with them automatically connecting to my wireless network.  When the PC hibernates, or is logged off and logged back on it does not automatically connect back to the network even though the network shows to be available.  I have put the power setting on maximum, unchecked "allow pc to turn off this device" in device manager, but neither has worked.  These laptops are being logged into and out of on a daily basis by multiple users, and trying to get them all to connect back to the network via the icon in the system tray is not working.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Mobile Precision 7710 BIOS update 1.4.8 failure

I am new to the forum and this is my first post.  Just wanted to give a heads up on an issue I recently discovered.  I haven't found much on this I guess because the system is still pretty new.

I received a brand new Precision 7710 and the first thing I do is complete all Windows updates and do any driver updates that need to be done.

Here are the laptop specs:

Computer:  Mobile Precision 7710
BIOS Version:  1.3.12
OS Version:  Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

Manufacturer: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1535M v5 @ 2.90GHz
Clock Speed: 2.9Ghz
L2 Cache Size: 1024

17.3" UltraSharp UHD IGZO(3840 x2160) Wide View Anti-Glare LE D-backlit
6 Cell (91 Whr) Long Life Cycl e Lithium Polymer battery
240W AC Adapter
64GB (4x16G) 2133MHz DDR4 Memory
AMD FirePro W5170M, 2GB GDDR5
1TB 2.5 inch SATA Solid State Drive,MPWS
Win 7 Pro,SP1,No Media,64bit,O pti,ENG
Intel Dual Band Wireless 8260 (802.11ac) W/ Bluetooth
Intel Xeon E3-1535M with Smart Card and Thunderbolt 3

I received this laptop on Monday March 21, 2016, saw that there were approx 4 or 5 driver updates on dell.com/support.

I chose to download all updates to the desktop and update from there as I always do.

I saved the bios update for the next day March 22, 2016 as I wanted to be in my office to do this update.  I am well aware you can easily turn your laptop into a brick if the update goes south.

I come in and begin the update via the Precision_7X10_148.exe on the desktop I had downloaded from dell.com/support for the service tag of my laptop.  The progam runs and all looks normal.  After about 5 mins, the bios update is complete.

Laptop reboots and  I come to a Windows Boot Manager Screen with the following error:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause...

File:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD

Status:  0xc0000001

Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

At this point, when you would reboot there was no dell splash screen and the only thing you could access was the boot menu by pressing F12.  Trying to get into the bios by pressing F2 only brought you to a black screen.

After much troubleshooting with various ways of trying to boot, I found that if I changed the boot config to UEFI with secure boot On and reboot I would get a screen full of snow.  So I rebooted and started pressing F2. I got into the bios but could only see a few inches of the bios.  Like this:

After a lot of google searching I was finally able to find some instruction on this per user MustangChris04 at the following website:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/next-generation-dell-precision-mobile-workstations-press-release.782179/page-74

His instructions were as follows:

"I was able to recover from the colored snow by repeatedly hitting F2 at boot until you could see the BIOS behind all the snow. The screen remained with the colored snow, but you can see in the attached photo there was about an inch of workable screen. With that, I went to the BIOS, used the arrow keys to go to the Video option and then expanded it to the switchable graphics option and disabled switchable graphics. Once Video is highlighted, expand the tree and highlight switchable graphics. Then, the keystrokes to disable switchable graphics is as follows:

TAB
ENTER
TAB
TAB
ENTER
ENTER
ESC

That should then restart with switchable graphics disabled "

Once I followed his directions the laptop rebooted, saw the dell splash screen, and booted on into windows.  I did reboot back into the bios to disable UEFI with secure boot on.

In the end it was all a moot point.  Prior to learning the above intruction I had already called the unit in on service.  The tech came out and replaced the mother board and ended up with the same result and I had encountered on the first go around.  The tech called dell and they are currently doing a system exchange.

However I couldn't let it go without further troubleshooting.  So I am posting this here to hopefully help in preventing someone having to make a call to dell.

In my opinion, there is something faulty in the bios update version 1.4.8.  Precision_7X10_148.exe.

Teredo Tunneling Pseudso-Interface

After much searching and diagnostic running, I found that the Teredo Tunneling Pseudso-Interface  cannot start. I got this message when I did the first fix and repair but then I'd get a message that it couldn't be fixed. I tried a new diagnostic tool and it said the  Teredo Tunneling Pseudso-Interface device cannot start (code 10)

I finally found it under the Network Adapters and it has the little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark beside it. Everything I've read says to use the back-up disc that came with the computer to re-install it. My computer did not come with a back-up disc. In that case it says to contact the manufacturer to get a copy. When I get on Dell.com, they say no results. Does anyone have any idea how to find a disc or how to replace this component? I don't want to junk the computer because of this. I have it so that I can now use it, but I'm backing up all my work and not doing anything too sensitive on it. Updates will not run.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Hi All,

I have a HDD issues from a couple of months, I think they are related to HDD bad sectors (I have ran chkdsk a two times), to avoid major issues, I am planning to buy a new HDD, but the factory HDD contains software to restore my laptop as factory default (Operating system, dell software, etc). If I buy a new disk in Dell I suppose the new HDD will not contain all those programs if so How can I get all them into my new HDD?

Thanks in advance for your help

New M.2 SSD Drive - USB Power Surge

0

Hi all,

I just purchased a new M.2 512GB SM951 Samsung SSD drive to replace my existing SSD (256GB) in my XPS 9550.

So I wanted to clone my existing hard drive so I purchased an M.2 USB 3.0 enclosure.  Every time I connect it I get the error message "USB Power Surge on Port - USB needs more power" - or something to that effect.I tried purchasing a USB 3.0 Splitter cable so had it plugged into two USB sockets - that didn't work.  I then purchased a powered USB hub - that didn't work either!!!So i'm at a bit of a loss here??

I tried uninstalling the USB drivers, and restarting the system like some suggestions on the web but no luck.

So I'm all out of ideas here!!

Can anyone make a suggestion because i'm all out of ideas and this is driving me nuts!!

Thanks !!!

Screen light on when unplugged, dims when plugged in

I have an Inspiron 15 I bought late last summer (2015). The screens of my previous Inspirons all lit up when plugged in, but dimmed when running off the battery. This model brightens up when unplugged, but dims to the point of not being able to see screen detail when connected to a power source. Is this right, or a defect? Thanks!

Questions about Inspiron 7568

0

Just bought this laptop and I've noticed a couple of odd quirks about it:

1) The up and down arrow keys also double as PgUp and PgDn. Problem is, I can't figure out how to use the PgUp/PgDn buttons to scroll sites one page at a time as opposed to only one line at a time. If I use those keys in combination with the Ctrl key the page scrolls all the way to the top or bottom.

2) The left and right arrow keys will only move the cursor back or forward one word at a time. There doesn't seem to be a way to move the cursor to the beginning or end of the line itself.

I've never used or heard of any laptop in which the arrow keys function in this manner. There must be a solution. Does anyone know what it is?
