Inspiron 1420 LAN problem

$

I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 running Windows Vista Home Premium that I am attempting to connect to my satellite modem. However, when I click on the Network and Sharing Center and then click on Manage Network Connections, the only option it displays is a Wireless Network Connection; no option to connect to a LAN. However, the computer does have a LAN port and when I connect the Ethernet cable from the satellite modem to the LAN port, an orange light does appear. Also, according to the owner’s manual for this computer, when setting up a satellite modem, I am supposed to choose Broadband Connection and then enter a user name and password but, technical support at Hughes.net says that there is no user name or password and instead, whenever I plug the Ethernet cable into the LAN port, it should automatically detect the settings and provide me with the option to connect to the Internet via the LAN. So, why does my computer not display an LAN connection in the Network and Sharing Center/ Manage Network Connections?

XPS 15 9350 hard disk not found

I booted up my computer this morning and it told me there was no internal hard disk found. So I ran the ePSA tests and it says everything is working properly including the hard drive. So then I went to the BIOS and I can't tell if everything is OK there, it says there is no fixed HDD but underneath that it says there is a msata device which shows the 512 GB hard drive. I'm at a loss I have no idea why this happened or how to fix it. Please help!

Anyone that can give me the algorithm unlock code I would greatly appreciate it.   Unfortunately the Dell Latitude e6420 does not generate a code after 3 wrong tries but rather  prompts you to restart and try again.

Thanks in advance

Dell Inspiron 15 3542 bios firmware update problem windows 10

Hi all,

I have a problem with the wifi of Dell inspiron 15 3542. I updated it from win 7 to win 10 and the wifi keeps connecting and disconnecting until it can't find any wifi network.

I decided to update the firmware of the bios.

The bios firmware was in ver A01 and the latest is A10. I couldn't update fro 01 to 10 and it kept saying unsupported system.

So i tried to take it step by step. I wanted to update from 01 to 02 to 03.....10, but i did a mistake and i updated from 01 to driver 3443A02 and not 3442A02. Now i want to restore previous versions of bios firmware but i can't find a way.

What should i do?

thank you

Hi,

First time poster.

I have been reading up on the razer core, and other thunderbolt 3 external gpu cases. Does the latest version of the XPS 13 with an updated bios support external graphics over thunderbolt 3?

Which thermal pads can I use for my laptop l502x? +Photo

Hi,

I want to replace my thermal pads for my l502x laptop. The RED one in the photo is the one which is broken and I need to replace it. But I don't know exactly which is the thickness needed (0.5mm, 1mm or 1.5mm). I've searched on the service manual and there is no information about it.

Also, I don't know which is the diference between the thermal pads marked as RED and the ones marked as GREEN

Thanks

New XPS 15 Wifi briefly disconnects at login causing Group Policy to not completely run

We have two of the new XPS 15 laptops.  These do not have any Ethernet ports on them so to get them setup on our domain I have to export our CA generated trusted root certificate from my desktop to a USB drive, and then import it to the local computers enterprise root trusted certificates store.  Once the certificate is installed we can join our hidden Enterprise WPA2 wifi network.  I enter my domain credentials and it authenticates.  Now with network access I can go rename the machine and join it to the domain.

Normally on other laptops such as the Latitude series, I have it just connected via Ethernet cable, so I can just join the domain and the domain policy auto-enrollment will grab whatever certs it needs / establish that trust relationship and on reboot the enterprise wifi group policy will populate the wifi settings.  Not so much with the XPS 15, though I did order some USB Ethernet adapters because maybe that will make this "priming" process more successful.

The issue I have is that once rebooted the wifi is connected and I log in, but while it logs in the wifi disconnects for a bit and then reconnects.  It appears as if your on the network, but none of our software deployments via Group Policy get installed.  Event log shows that it can't find the path to these GPO's or the domain is not reachable.  However I can ping and open those very same GPO paths referenced to as "not available" in the event viewer.  I do a continuous ping of the laptop as it logs in and sure enough during the login process the wifi is disconnected for a few seconds.  Its not long but I guess its long enough where some basic group policy stuff does not apply.  Other group policy applies via gpupdate /force, or waiting the group policy update interval, but we know that software installation via group policy will never deploy unless it is run at the very beginning of the login process.

When customizing the XPS 15 there were no options to opt for an Intel Wifi card.  We only use Intel Wifi cards because we've had bad experiences with other brands.  This seems to be a Dell branded (I guess broadcom card), so do you know of any driver updates or driver tweaks we could use?  We already have both local policy and group policy settings configured to always wait for the network at login, and delay processing of group policy for 60 seconds.  These two settings help the vast majority of other posters out there with this issue, however its not helping with these XPS 15's.  They are running Windows 10 pro.  I cannot "forget" the wifi network because group policy put it there so forget this network is grayed out... or else I'd try to eliminate it and re-add it.  Once my USB to network adapters arrive I may try dis-joining it from the domain and rejoining it via the wired usb 3.0 network adapter.

I think it was real short sighted to not build Ethernet jacks in here or not allow the user to customize the XPS 15 with an Intel wifi card.

Is it possible to reset Security Tools Administrator password?

$

I've used the Dell Data Protection | Security Tools program to activate encryption on a self-encrypting drive on a Windows 7 machine. The system is operating normally and I know the password that's registered with PBA so I can unlock the drive. However, I realized that I do not know the Administrator password for Security Tools itself (not Windows--that one I know). As a result, I can't add other user accounts to those that are registered with PBA.

I have a disc that was created during the setup process that has a "Dell Security Tools Backup Data" folder with an "OpalSPKey.<machine>.recovery.dat" file. Is this file usable to reset the Security Tools administrator password? Is there some other way?

That disc also has a backup File System Encryption Key. I know what that is for, but I figure now is the time to ask: if I need to recover the filesystem, how do I use that disc to do so? I'd rather learn now than when I need it last minute.

TB15 Appears to overheat. Monitors (HDMI and Mini DP) flicker off frequently

I updated all the drivers and TB 15 firmware and the drivers on the XPS side too.  Using with an XPS 13 (9350).

I have the three USBs on the back of the dock, the HDMI and Mini Display port plugged in.  The TB15  gets rather warm.  After I have been working for 15-20 minutes the monitors both lose connection at the same time and then have to cycle back up.  Once this happens once it begins to happen about every minute.

This appears to me to be an overheating issue.  Bad unit?  Bad product?  Should I send this thing back and go to the cheap dock?

Touchpad issue with Inspiron 7348, Windows 8.1, no sensitivity adjustment for touch pad

My Windows 8.1 equipped 7348 has the touchpad freaking out quite a few times a day. Still in warranty but can't seem to get much of a response from Dell Tech Support. Tried their 'chat' but after waiting 45min. the touchpad freaked when I finally got someone on the other end... it ended up closing the window. No happy.

Anyone have an idea how to set the sensitivity on this thing to 'sledge-hammer'?

XPS15 boot dvd

I  have a brand new XPS-15 (5550). I've made a DVD recovery DVD using an external DVD writer but I haven't been able to boot it. I found the article at  https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN142679/EN/ so I've been following it to make a manual boot option. The article doesn't tell me what should be in the File System List field of the Add Boot Option field.

I don't see DVD mentioned in the field and I can't modify the field - if I click on the existing text which is highlighted, it remains highlighted. If I try to delete it by using the Delete key nothing happens.

Is anyone able to tell me how to make a functional boot option?

Thanks

Mike

I noticed a couple days ago the system time on my laptop did not adjust for daylight savings time.  I have not changed any settings.  I have been having problems with WiFi connection but that should affect the system time.

I have Dell Inspiron 15 3543.  It's less than a year old.

Dell M4600 with Premium Color IPS Panel

$

Since Dell REFUSES to address other concerns I have, via PM on this forum, public posts on this forum, emails and calls to support... this will be the start of a lawsuit and I am hoping for maybe a Class Action.

I ordered and paid for a M4600 with the 1920x1080 premium color IPS display.  I have documentation saying I paid for this from dell.

When I ordered my M4500 - I also paid for the premium RGB display and got screwed out of that..

on the M4600 - every single diagnostic program I run shows I have a TFT 6-bit color display when I paid for a IPS 10-bit color display...

DELL - what are we going to do to resolve this issue, as well as the engineering issues I have on both my M4500 and M4600??

While I did not buy these machines when they were new/current - I did order them directly from Dell as clearance items and paid dell directly for them.  My employer also orders $400,000+ per year from dell and we are considering moving to HP this year... I have some say as to how that will go.. not 100% control but enough to at least delay the purchasing pending resolution of all the issues I posted about my machines as well as business machines...
