I have a new 7710 that came with a 256GB NVMe SSD. I have upgraded it to a Samsung 950 Pro 512. I am using Windows 10 UEFI.
I have a question on the bios setting. Should it be AHCI or RAID. The machine came default with RAID On and came with Win 10 Pro pre-installed.
Currently I switched it to ACHI, used the MS Download and installed Win 10 Pro. Once in windows, I installed all the dell drivers and also the Samsung NVMe driver.
I have read on different forums that the bios setting should be RAID, but also read it should be AHCI.
Question: Which should it be. Is one better than the other?
Or is it just that if in AHCI, it will use the MS NVMe Driver (or Samsung NVMe Driver) and if in RAID, it will use the Intel IRST drivers?
I assume if AHCI like I have it, then I can use the Samsung NVMe Driver. I have read if not in AHCI, the Samsung NVMe Driver will not install.
If I switch to RAID, then I would need to use the Intel Rapid Storage Tech (IRST) Driver and not the samsung driver (I read samsung driver will not install if AHCI).
So I am confused if one is better than the other (AHCI or Raid).
FYI, I have been using for around 10 days and no BSOD due to the PCIe NVMe drive.
