Hi, I have forgotten how to type an accent key on my inspiron 15 5555. I know there is a way of typing both French and Spanish accented keys, but can't remember how. (This is possible as I have done it - not changing keyboards!)

Any help.

Hey my Dell inspiron 5520 Won't turn on, I turned it off as usual two nights ago and when I tried to turn it on in the morning yesterday, it only made beeping sounds. I have tried to remove the battery and hold the power button to remove static but it still won't start up. It's like the more I try to turn it on, the more the beeps won't stop after 4 beeps, now it's making 4 beeps repeated over 3 times. I really don't know what to do. May you please help.

Buying external monitor for 17R SE

$

I have a Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 (17.3") 900p:

i7-3630qm (2.4ghz, Turbo Burst 3.4Ghz)
256gb ssd (Win8.1, Lightroom catalog and previews)
1tb hd (photos and data files)
8gb ram
Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 2gb

I want to buy a larger external IPS monitor to use with it. It has both Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 2gb and Intel HD 4000 for graphics. The computer has an HDMI port and an old-style VGA port. I don't know much about this stuff, but I suppose these days external monitors use HDMI.

My main question is about monitor resolution. Right now I am looking at the Intel HD 4000 properties app and it currently shows a maximum resolution of 1600x900. Maybe that is because all I have now is the built-in monitor. If I attach an external monitor with a higher resolution will it show additional higher resolution choices?

The separate Nvidia properties app seems to have no resolution adjustment so I don't know how to use the Nividia adapter with an external monitor. Will something suddenly appear in the properties if I connect an external monitor?

I am in Japan and looking at the Bic Camera website they have a ton of monitors.  I have found several that aren't so expensive, but have an IPS display. For example, just one that I saw is the Dell P2414H which is 23.8" and 1920x1080. I was mostly looking at this particular one because the resolution matches what I saw in the Intel HD 4000 properties app. If I can actually use a higher resolution then I could consider some other monitors too.

Sorry, I realize these are rather simple, newbie type questions, but it is confusing because I have never tried to attach an external monitor. Here in Japan you can't so easily return stuff if I <ADMIN NOTE: Profanity removed as per TOU>up and buy the wrong thing. I need to get it right. Thank you!

Wi Fi not connecting

Hi, I just bought the Dell Inspiron 11, 2 in 1 laptop/tablet today. I went through the normal startup process and it seemed to connect to my home wifi fine. It dropped out as soon as I opened the internet browser. It now will not connect and the troubleshooting says "Windows could not find a driver for your network adapter". Obviously this is really frustrating so any help would be appreciated thanks.

Windows Upgrades Blocked

I was trying to upgrade Windows but I get a report that Windows upgrade is being blocked by the system administrator. I am the only user of this machine and have not set any parameters to block Windows Upgrades. I even tried to turn off defender then try and upgrade but got the same response. Any suggestions as to why this is happening? I even spoke with my IT guy and he had no idea why it is happening.

New XPS 15 (9550)

I have a happy event today, my new XPS 15 arrived at home, unfortunately I am in the Glasgow office so I won't see it until tomorrow afternoon. By which time my Samsung 950 should have also arrived.

My question is, what effect does this have on the warranty, I know it sounds like a daft question as I am employed by Dell, however I only do enterprise kit. The XPS is the 32G SSD, 1TB, 4K model.

Thanks

Dwain

Installing the Broadcom USH w/ swipe sensor on a Dell Precision M4400

Hello All,

I reinstalled Windows 7 on my Dell Precision M4400. The install went seamlessly except there is a driver called, Broadcom USH w/ swipe sensor which did not install. Dell has set up a webpage for the driver which shows which version of the driver that goes with which machine and which OS. My machine is listed under several OS but not for Windows 7 Pro (32 bit). There is a driver for Windows 7 (64 bit) but I do not think I can use it.

Here is the webpage with the list of drivers:

Which one should I use?

Latitude 7350 2in1 still on sale in UK?

Hi,

I do the IT admin for a small business in the UK and have currently got a trial of a Latitude 7350 2in1 with a view to purchasing a few for staff to take out to clients etc.

When I was organizing the trial these were shown on the Dell website with various prices and configurations, but I've just had a look at the site just now and have discovered the prices and configurations have disappeared.

I'm worried that this means that they have been discontinued and would rather find out before we purchase them rather than after.....

Can anyone confirm if these laptops are still currently being supplied by Dell, or are they now a discontinued model?

Thanks

Ross

Dell Latitude E5440 - Smartcard / msata

Hello all.

I have a Dell Latitude E5440.  The user manual it says this model supports msata, but ONLY if the laptop does not have a smartcard reader.  I don't know if the smartcard reader is actually physically present inside the laptop (I don't use it) - but there is a "SC" slot on the right-hand side of the case.

Is the only reason because the two use the same physical space?  i.e. Can I simply open the laptop, remove the smartcard reader, and then install a msata drive?

Dell Latitude E5440 - swapping palmrest

I have a Dell Latitude E5440 that has a fingerprint reader in the palmrest.  I noticed that there is another palmrest that does not have the fingerprint reader - BUT - it does have a larger touchpad.

I've looked at laptops of this model stripped down into parts (such as the base plate) and there are some very slight differences.

I would like to know if I can swap the palmrest to the other type?

i.e. Can I remove the palmrest that has the fingerprint reader and smaller touchpad - and replace it with the other type of palmrest that does not have a fingerprint reader but does have the larger touchpad?

To Dell: A new laptop lineup

We thought after seeing Inspiron 7537 in 2013, that future Inspirons might follow that path.
But alas, present Inspirons are again kind of low end.
Please introduce a new segment of laptops between XPS and Inspiron. Just like "Studios"
were.

Bests about Inspiron 7000 (2013):
☺ 1. Aluminium. Lid and Palm rest.
☺ 2. Gorilla glass protection on display.
☺ 3. IPS Display (1080), though few shortcomings are there.
☺ 4. Strong build quality.
☺ 5. 4 USB3 ports. (Loved it!)
☺ 6. HDD activity LED.
☺ 7. Palm rest part on both sides are free from any port. It helps using mouse.
☺ 8. Strong hinge. (★★★★★)
☺ 9. Dual Band 2x2 Wi-Fi (★★★★★)
☺ 10. GOOD NVidia gpu with GDDR5 memory (★★★★★)
☺ 11. Battery is ok.

Shortcomings:
☹ 1. My Display has ghosting, backlight bleeding & minor color banding problems. Panel is LG
Philips LGD040E 1920x1080.
☹ 2. Poor WIFI reception due to whole metal lid. It can be cured by making cut in DELL logo
part and placing antennas there. Just like metal body phones.
☹ 3. Keyboard. Color of the keyboard should be black. It's difficult to see the markings on
the keys with fluorescent lit room and key backlit on.
☹ 4. Keyboard again. Flex. The keyboard should be rigid. The keyboard should be installed
from inside, like MacBook pro.
☹ 5. Trackpad. Sometimes the pointer skips during 2finger scrolling. Use glass.
☹ 6. Most important - there is hissing sound/white noise from 3.5 headphone port. It was
also there in my Studio 1558 laptop.
☹ 7. Rubber gasket around the Display. It goes inside if after closing the lid the laptop is
lifted using one hand with tight grip.
☹ 8. There should be only one bottom cover (like MacBook pro) for maintenance or part
removal.
☹ 9. The ports on the right side are very closely located. It's difficult to connect HDMI
cable and pen drive side by side.
☹ 10. Speakers are real let down for this laptop.

The expectations for new line up:
1. All the points from "Bests about Inspiron 7000 (2013)".
2. 15.6-inch Non-Touch 1920x1080 IGZO Display with GLASS Protection - It's very good. Easy to clean. No micro distortion like on matte display. No need for touch on a full-size laptop.
3. Sturdy keyboard with black color, installed from inside, and strong backlit with 4 option - off, light, medium and full glow.
3. Glass trackpad. No physical keys.
4. If M2 SSD is used then keep a vacant space for traditional HDD.
5. Dual fan, each for CPU and GPU. If possible with below premium price tag.
6. 1080p Camera. So that no need for external full hd cam for Full hd skyping.
7. A real 4 core CPU from Intel core i7 as option.
8. Good speakers. Either front facing (like where the battery and HDD leds are placed on 7537) or upward facing (above Palmrest deck, both sides of keyboard; or above keyboard).
9. Right angled power plug (if the placement of power port is unchanged).
10. Include USB 3.1 Type C port, but dont reduce the number of usb 3.0 ports.
11. Include SIM card tray. Internal data card optional.
12. Remove HDMI. Provide Display port.

Latitude E5570 - NVMe troubles

Hi, I switched default SSD for Samsung 950 Pro that comes with super fast NVMe interface. E5570 supports this interface - thats one of the reasons i bought it. But I cannot run it on full speed because then I loose some other functionality. The thing is NVMe is really effective when SATA operation is switch Off in BIOS. But doing so leads to keyboard being inactive after every hibernate wakeup, black screens after sleeps etc. There are other users reporting the very same thing with SATA off. So the workaround is to go to AHCI option in BIOS, but it degradates NVMe performance. Any resolution to that?

Otherwise, E5570 is great notebook, powerful, thin, quality material. Only this NVMe thing (and high-frequency noise coming from mobo - which will be hopefully solved by motherboard replacement.)

Thank You, Martin

Inspiron 15 5547 laptop pops open at the right side joint while closing - Post-2

I bought this laptop (Inspiron 15 5547 model) 4 months ago. For the last few days I was hearing a click sound while opening and while closing the laptop and found the right corner edge is popped open and a small wire hanging from it. there is a crack above the ethernet port too. Wifi no longer connects, guess due to the wire and I am unable to use my laptop.

I have read this related post in another thread where this is a very common issue due to the workmanship, but for some reason the thread seems not allowing additonal replies on it, so opening a new one to get help. here is the link to the other related post describing the same issue.

I have also sent a note to TerryB(Liaison for Laptops, Mobile Devices) on the similar issue i am facing like all others on that thread. Please help fixing this issue permanently.

XPS 13 9350 Poor Image Quality on Second Display with DA200 USB-C Adapter

I recently purchased several XPS 13 9350 laptops with the associated Dell DA200 USB-C adapter.  After downloading drives as I see recommended here, I'm able to get the adapter to work with HDMI, but the image quality on my second monitor (ASUS V247) is terrible.  Colors are distorted, and text is blurry.

I've tested the cable an monitor with a different computer, and I get the same results trying different adapters and laptops.  The image quality issue is seen with all 5 of the 9350's we bought.

Any ideas?

Laptop screen replacement

The LCD on my XPS-L702X just recently cracked. I was looking for a replacement for it and came across the fact that there is a 3D and non-3D version of the 17.3" screen I need. I am almost positive that it is a non-3D screen that I need, but am not sure how to tell which one it is. How can I do so?

If need be, I can connect it to a television to check through windows, I just need to know how to do so.
