XPS 12 9Q23 Brief Cursor Freezeup

$

I have reposted my issue here as I have a new and probably important clue.

My laptop cursor hangs up frequently for 5 to 10 seconds. This only occurs after I close and reopen the lid. I have tried a number of things but nothing seems to fix it including:

- Loading the latest drivers for my trackpad, mouse and video.

- Turning off palm rejection on the trackpad

I have the settings set so closing the lid is supposed to do nothing and as long as plugged in, the laptop is set to never sleep.

I have tried playing an audio clip while the problem is active and the audio is not affected.

My system is an XPS 12 9Q23, running Windows 10 64 bit with all updates.

XPS13 (9343) - Wifi issues

Hi,

I've bought an XPS13 (9343) laptop in January 2015 and I am currently experiencing weird networking issues as I moved from Switzerland to the US last week.

The university wifi network (eduroam) works flawlessly, but my home wifi (standard Comcast router) is causing troubles: I can connect, although the signal strength is much lower than on my cell phone, and internet works for the first ~30 seconds. Afterwards, it stays connected but no data is transferred at all.

What I tried so far:

- Using my smartphone as an "antenna" and sharing the connection via USB: works!

- Trying all possible driver versions from Dell website: no difference

- Reinstalling Windows 10: no difference

- Using Linux Mint instead of Windows: same issues

- Replacing the network adapter (Broadcom BCM94352Z) by a new one: no change

Any idea on how to fix this problem? Plugging my phone every time is not such a practical solution and as I bought my laptop in Switzerland, sending it there for warranty repair is not what I wish either ;)

Thanks!

Alex

How to recondition/recharge discharged Dell Latitude D610 battery

$

My Dell Latitude D610 worked with a bad battery as long as I had it plugged in. I had bought a new but non-OEM battery and charged it, but trying to save it for only as needed, I just used the other old battery plugged in.

Now the new battery won't recharge and the old one doesn't work even if plugged in. The I believe nice guy who sold it to me told me that I likely damaged the new battery by letting it fully discharge, even though I never had this problem with the original DEll battery.

Any ideas what might be wrong? And whether I can fix or re-charge/re-program the new battery to work?

PS On looking online I see some reference to a coin cell battery for the D610. Don't have mine in front of me but mine appears to differ-to be a larger perhaps 5" L x 3W x 3/4"D battery approx. that slides in and out of the bottom with a finger release lock.

Inspiron 11 3147/3148 Touch Screen infamous ghost touches

Hello,

As with everyone with these laptop models, I have the issue where a part of the screen becomes unusable and starts doing ghost touches.

I've isolated the issue to TWO particular devices and I've made a script to fix this issue everytime it happens.

THE PROBLEM STARTS when the touchpad and/or screen stops receiving power (at least 5 seconds), like for example when you close the lid, or when it goes into suspend mode. When powering it back again, the problem starts.

My partial solution evidences that this is A DRIVER ISSUE. Stopping and restarting the problematic devices fixes it.

To automate this process, here's the Windows batch script that I run everytime I resume power of my laptop. It requires Microsoft's DEVCON utility to run.

devcon disable *USB*0396*
devcon disable *ACPI*DLL068E*

devcon enable *USB*0396*
devcon enable *ACPI*DLL068E*

I can provide more specific info if a Dell engineer/s gets the proper attention to this issue.

Thanks.

(Inspiron 15 3542) Touchpad wont click while key is pressed

OS: Windows 10

Recently Ive been having an issue after resetting my computer that my touchpad will not click while a key is pressed. This is interfering with my ability to play a game, making it nearly unplayable. It is also bothering me when I browse the internet. I have made sure to disable palm rejection, but I still can not click while a key is pressed, and for 2 seconds after. This is very annoying. I have checked that the driver is up to date. This didnt happen before the reset, and my settings are as follows:

Sensitivity:

Touchpad: on, Pointer speed: Middle, Touch pressure: Minimum, Palm rejection: Minimum and off, Tap to click: off, Activate touchpad by zigzag: Off

Buttons:

Touchpad buttons: on, Double click speed: Middle, Left button: click, Right button: shortcut menu, Two finger click for shortcut menu: off, Disable navigation in button zone: On (motion in button zone disabled)

Gestures: ALL GESTURES OFF.

Inspiron 11 3000 (3147) "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" disables touchpad ALL THE TIME

$

Dell 2-in-1 3147:

The "DELL Pointing Devices" dialog shows a "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" checkbox. If this checkbox is clear, the touchpad works properly. When this checkbox is marked, the touchpad does not work at all.

I have tried both USB and Bluetooth mice, and neither one allows the proper action: the touchpad should be enabled without a mouse, and the touchpad should be disabled with a mouse.  That's how it works on other systems.  It just doesn't work at all on this system.

I suspect there is some interaction between the touchpad and the touchscreen that is interfering with this setting.  But I have another laptop with a touchpad and a touchscreen, and the mouse detection works there (it's not a DELL).

Yes, I have toyed with the idea of deleting the DELL touchpad control application and installing a "stock" Synaptics touchpad driver.  But I don't want the DELL  "update" app to overwrite it with the DELL touchpad control app every time it sees "the wrong driver" loaded.  And I don't want to take the chance that the touchpad driver and the touchscreen driver are somehow linked together, thus disabling one when I disable the other.

Any ideas on how to get the "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" action working would be welcome.

New Hard Drive Setup

My fathers hard drive *** out on his inspiron 1545. I purchased him a crucial bx100 250gb ssd to replace it. It hasn't come in yet but I was wondering what steps I need to complete to get his laptop set up? He had mentioned that when he first set up the computer it made him create some kind of backup disks. Is that what I will use or do I need the dell disks that came with the laptop? Thanks.

Vostro 3500 Drivers Installation

Just reinstalled a fresh copy of XP into my Vostro 3500.

All good so far,

Went to install the drivers from Dell support and hit a minefield. Was hoping for an integrated setup program instead found multiple (30-40) files, some zipped, others not.

Some downloads indicated they would automatically install. Useless. How can I download on my Vostro itself when I need network drivers to connect to the internet. I planned to download files onto a USB drive, connect it to the Vostro and install drivers that way.  Tried, but kept getting error messages about this file being part of a set or something and load the first disc.      ????

Any help greatly appreciated,

Dell Latitude E6410 - windows 7/8/10 does not boot from usb/dvd on HDD or SSD

Hello ! I tryed to find answers but I could not find something exactly like this:

I installed Windows 7 , 32 bits on my Dell Latitude E6410, all good !

I purchased an Kingston V300 120 gb SSD. I could see it in Bios ( could not boot and install windows on it )  , and I could see it in Windows.

When I tryed to instal windows on it, it shows the  " windows is copying files " and after that I get a white scren and is restarting. Bios is version 15, AHCI settings.

This was the first problem.

After that I mounted the HDD and SSD with the RAID DRIVE ( master and recovery ), demounted them and now I cant use my HDD either.

On both of them it says that there is no boot drive ( something like that ) .

Anyway, I have another HDD with Windows XP and that one Works! THe problem is when I try to instal windows 7 on it. It has the same problem, it says " Windows is copying files " -> White Blank Screen -> Restart, on and on.

So , I think it is a bios problem or something like that .

Can you please help me ?

Inspiron i7559 freezes in intervals

I've had my inspiron i7559 for about two months and it has worked great until about 2 or 3 weeks ago it started having a problem where after random amounts of use it will start to freeze every five seconds for about one or two seconds. The actions I perform during the freeze are then carried out after the freeze (typing, moving the mouse, etc). Also any audio will buzz or slow down when this happens. I am fairly sure it is not due to any recent software I have installed and I have already run disc check which found no errors. I also ran the dell diagnostic tool and found no errors, and I have scanned with anti-,malware and anti-virus programs. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Inspiron 5520. Windows 10 and Touchpad Problems

$

Hello - I upgraded to WIndows 10 Fall 2015 and things worked fine for awhile.  Now, however, the Touchpad will NOT stay turned off.  Actually, it says it's turned off but continues to function anyway and, as you all know, that's troubling when you use a mouse.  I've been reading that Dell doesn't have the right drivers and does not plan to create them.  So......my question is - what next?  Is there a fix for this OR do I sometime replace this *** laptop and get something other than a Dell?  Can that company really care so less for it's customers?  Please help.

XPS M1530 Laptop Missing Drivers

My hard drive in my xps m1530 has blown for the second time now. The first time I had a repair shop replace it. I didn't want to do that again.

So I went to my wife's dell studio. Her charging port was broken so it couldn't charge. So I swapped the hard drive from hers to mine.

Now I'm missing some drivers and every driver I've tried from the Dell site hasn't worked. It has Vista Home installed as the OS. The following are the missing drivers:

There are 3 Base System Devices, Biometric Coprocessor, Ethernet Controller, and Network controller. I have a flash drive I've been using to try to get the proper drivers installed. So far non have worked

What have I done wrong? Any ideas of finding the drivers, or solving the problem. Everything works fine but I have no Network or Internet access. Help please!!!!!!!!
