I have scoured searching the net with various keywords, and found no solid document about this topic. So, i am here to confirm if my laptop has SATA 3 capability. According to the dell online Service Manual (E6420 lattitude), this system ships with a Sata 2 SSD (which is what i currently have on my laptop). I have found one reference in my search where DELL support has clearly said that this system is capable of SATA iii support. See the links below for confirmation:

Elsewhere, i found people guessing and running SATA 3 SSD on E6420. The service manual itself does not say anything about the speed level (SATA 2 or 3). Is there any way to confirm that people are getting SATA 3 speeds on this laptop ? I know my new SATA 3 SSD is backwards compatible with SATA 2. My new Samsung EVO 850 SSD is capable of SATA 3, and i need to optimize it for higher speeds, if indeed i can confirm that this laptop is capable of reaching SATA 3.
Currently this is the speeds i am seeing on my new SATA 3 SSD, without even running AHCI.
I am repairing a laptop for a customer. The Service Tag is BHM3Y52. The HDD has failed and I have requested a new one under warranty replacement. I contacted the customer to see if they had the original media that came with the laptop or if they created any restore discs. The answer was No to both questions.
How can I get media to restore the laptop? The HDD is not functioning well. When it gets warmed up, it starts giving error messages, so I don't know if I will be able to get a full system image made.

Noticed my screen was flickering, looking like it was going from an FLux orangey colour to a true bright white (even though I don't have FLux installed).
Most forums said to adjust the settings in Dell Extended Battery life, but this wasn't activated. I also had my power option set to high performance with everything maxed out.
Turns out the flicker was from the pre-installed "True Colour", which you can find in the hidden icons in the bottom right of the screen. Disabled it (and turned off autorun on startup in the preferences), and my whites were nice and blinding, and no more flicker.

Windows 7 SP1, latest bios (A16) and drivers installed. In the power plan the hard drive is set to turn off Never and Display is set between 2 (testing) and 60 minutes (Default).
If connected to external displays and using the laptop screen when the devices is left inactive long enough for the display to turn off it will not resume from any keystroke or pressing the power button.
Closing and re-opening the lid has no effect, and verbal threats appear to be completely ignored so far. The computer must be forcibly rebooted and then it comes up fine. I've tested with multiple monitors, connecting via different cables: vga, dvi, and display port and all these setups experienced the problem.
When the laptop screen is not utilized as a display (lid shut) and only external monitors are used it resumes fine. I have several dozen users reporting the problem but I'm pretty sure all of our 250+ E6540s have the problem as a newly imaged machine exhibits it as well as the half dozen I randomly tested out in the wild did too (even though their user never complained).
Since this issue started up in the last 6 months and we've had a good number of these laptops for 2 years my next step will be re-building an image without all the windows updates and newer drivers then rolling it forward until I see the problem. Since that's going to take a lot of time and effort I wanted to get this post out first.

I bought a Dell Inspirion 15-3537 2 years ago and have installed a Windows 7 on it.
Suddenly when I turn on the computer it's started showing the menu boot option every time, even if I haven't pressed F12 button.
I looked at the setup but I didn't find any option to disabled the CD and network boot to just let 1 option or to avoid the boot menu.
Is there a way to disable the boot menu? Or disable the keyboard?

Well there are many posts on this subject and I expected to find somewhere on the dell site a place to enter the battery details and check authenticity without some else having to look it up. Sorry, cannot find one.
So here I am with the others who have asked the question. A battery brought from amazon which says ‘original’. Now I read about all the clones how to prove it is… ?

I am using Dell Inspiron 15 7000. When i connect to external LCD using my converter (HDMI to VGA), the LCD stops displaying anything after few seconds thought it displays initially. Can anyone please help me on this?

After two calls and numerous emails with tech support and a service visit to replace my touchpad the mystery screen resolution problem continues unabated. What is the fix for this problem that is very wide spread now? I will be using my laptop and typing or mousing with the touchpad and the screen resolution changes to smaller or larger at random. I find it hard to believe that Dell has not figured out what is causing this?

I bought few years ago dell inspirion I5 6 GB ram, few weeks ago i understood that i wont be able to upgrade to windows 10 due a bios that is incompatible with windows 10,. I upgrade my bios to a11 with hope that this will help, unfortunately it didnt work, so i upgrade from win7 to win 8.1.
i have now 8 gb ram and i want to see if can upgrade to 16 gb because i need to use hyper v and to turn on more then one virtual machine at once,, again i found out with a little bit reading in google that i cant do it either, can someone help me and tell if i can upgrade the memorey or that i should buy a new computer

I've just replaced my hdd 500 gb with SSD Samsung 850 pro 256 gb on my dell inspiron 13 7348 ( i5-5200 8gb ram ) . I bought this ssd to make the boot instantaneous, or this was my intention.
I did all the steps I had to do to optimize the PC for ssd (update of bios, alignment of ssd, etc.) but the boot is still made in 10 s. Given the SSD quality, there is an upgrade or a particular driver (I think to the 7348 sold with the ssd integrated) that makes less than 10 s the start?

In the last week, at our company, when updating our E6430's, to the new A17 BIOS, it has killed 3 PC's.
the update applies ok, then after it reboots, all 3 did the same thing..
power up... "never gets to dell logo"... then you hear the HD power down and click, then the PC reboots in a endless loop.
HD is find, it will boot in another laptop, but MB is toast and dell has had to come out and replace all 3.
at this point we are only using A16 now.
I recently bought new Dell Latitude E5450 (i3 5010u, 4GB RAM, 1TB 5400 HDD, HD, backlit, dual pointing key, Win 10).
Every time the laptop on, right palm rest gets warm, even when in idle, is it normal?
For the record, I swap my 1TB HDD with Samsung EVO 850 256GB.
I think component that gets warm is contactless smartcard reader (I try to put an ID card and windows ring a chimes), if it does, how do I deactivate it as I dont want to use it in near time.
Windows 10.... close lid or push power button pc reboots when turned on rather than waking up from sleep... power plan for bot set to sleep......
A client brought me their latitude D630 that has been having a screen problem. On boot up, the screen would flicker before ultimately going all white. It wouldn't show the Dell Splash Screen but you could see the Windows desktop as a fuzzy, distorted mess. I thought...ok, needs a new screen. Before that, I plugged it into a desktop monitor and it came up fine, no problem. So, I ordered a new screen and installed it. No change. It did the very same as the old one did. So I go back in, make sure all the connections are good and secure, close it back up and turn it back on again. No dice. At this point, I'm beginning to think its the well known Nvidia graphics chip on the board. So I replace the newer screen with the older one, plug the external monitor back on and go to the Dell site to do some online diagnostics. Once there, I download their diagnostic program and start it scanning the hardware. All the time I'm watching it go through its process and paying attn to the graphics card testing....
So this all takes awhile and once the video testing gets underway, I see the external monitor flash and a testing graphic comes up, which looks like its from some video game. That runs for a few minutes and then suddenly I look over a the laptop and the video is up and showing the same video as the external monitor. ***? What happened? What caused the video to suddenly start working again? What did the online diagnostic do to fix it? It makes it sound more like it replaced a corrupt video driver which would not have been my first thought on how to fix it.
Anyone have any experience with the online Dell Diagnostic scans and if it does attempt fixes like this? Thanks.
