SSD Drive

I have a almost one year old Inspiron 3452 laptop, and would like to replace the 500 gb hard drive with 500 gb SSD drive, but am not sure how to go about the OS side of things, as its at present running Win 8.1, and Dell didn't supply any OS discs at all. I have a original Win 7 DVD, which is one that can be installed on any PC, i don't want Win 10 at all,as i have tried it on this laptop, but it totally screws up wi fi use constantly disconnecting itself.  Cant see any drivers for Win 7 on dell downloads, no licence key on laptop for 8.1, dont want to pay out for a win 10 disc. all help appreciated...Thanks


XPS 15 9550 WIFI Hardware issues

XPS 15 9550: File Explorer takes 4 seconds to open (the whole unit is very slow)

I have the 1TB SSD in this XPS 15 9550 UHD touchscreen.


When I click on File Explorer, it takes up to 4 seconds for that to open. No connected USB or network drives to search for.

The unit is very slow as well. Everything updated to today.

7510 external drives not working

I have just received my new 7510 with 32gb a 1tb ssd.

nice looking machine BUT not one single external hdd will be recognized and as i backup to a 2tb drive this is a must.

has anyone had the same problem and how to resolve.

if not it will need to go back. disappointed. 

Dell inspiron 5537 Power Problem

I have laptop dell inspiron 5537, laptop black screen/ No display with power led on light

 when I press power button the led light flash three time than it become light without flashing

and the display still off and no others led lighting

I try to hold power button for one minute but the laptop didn't have any reaction

I try to remove battery charger and work on the charger but it still without any response

I try to clean the fan but also without response

I want any solution for this issue

XPS 15 9550 CPU speed is as low as 0.75ghz after mannually install windows 10 with all drivers installed and BIOS updated

I've just bought this XPS 15 9550 in Jan., and I really enjoy it at first.

However, one day, microsoft as pushed the update to 10586 version of windows 10 and the machine will always fail to install the update, so I decide to download the image file and install it myself.

The installation goes smooth, but after a few days' use, I found the computer is really slow when playing videos and games and I happened to find out the CPU speed shows on the performance label in task manager will always be 0.75ghz and 0.78ghz. It cannot go above that. I've also found that the utilization of the CPU can not be larger than 30%.

I've already updated my BIOS to 1.1.19, reinstall the system a few times, choosing the high performance battery mode, etc. and all these does not help.

I also downloaded the intel power gadget and found the power consuming for my CPU is always low and the CPU speed remains to be 0.80ghz.

Also, I've met the problem that after plugin the AC power, the CPU speed will fall to 0.39ghz...

Anyone got any idea what's going on here and how can I fix the problem? I'll really appreciate it. Thanks.

How to place 2nd HDD/SSD in an XPS 17 (L701X).....there is no bracket!

I would like to replace my HDD for an SSD, but I would like to keep using the original HDD. The XPS 17 has two HDD positions, but only one of them has the mounting bracket. Where can I get a second bracket? There is none listed in the parts list on the website. 

I'm fine with another type of bracket that fits, but so far I'm drawing a blank when searching for it.

Windows 10 is missing at least one network protocol

Hello Community,

I own a Dell Inspirion  7000 Series, the problem is, that after the reinstall of Windows 10 some network protocols are missing.

When I enter credentials to login to a remote computer (for network shares)and store them in the credentials manager, they are saved, but when trying to accessing the server shares by entering the IP adress, I run into the problem, that the computer askes for the credentials again and than is saying that some network protocols are missing.

Any idea on how to solve this? It was working on this windows 10 machine prior to reinstalling windows.

Dell Inspron 4110 not turning on normally, while pressing Power button, d together it's turning on and working normally

I'm using Dell Inspron 4110. Now, my lapi is not turning on normally (i.e by pressing power button). But, it's turning on by pressing power button & button "D" together and working fine and it's not restarting normally. I run the pre-boot assessment and its showing that my processor fan not working and showing the error code:2000-0511 and validation: 46535. when I checked, the fan is not working.


I tried to update the BIOS but it's not updating because of My laptop is not restarting normally.

 

Please let me know what happened to my laptop and what is the solution. Thank you.

CAC issue with Dell Latitude E5450

We have recently received Dell Latitude E5450s at and now we are encountering an issue on one laptop where it will not read CACs. While I have re-imaged the computer numerous times, reinstalled the CAC software, used different versions of ActivClient, flashed the BIOS, reinstalled the drivers, used different drivers. I have also used the internal CAC reader and an external one, same issue.  ActivClient shows that it can read the certs, Windows shows that it can read the certs, but when I go to use a Smart Card login and it still says "No Valid Certificates". I am at my wits end as to what is going on. Please help.

XPS 9350 BlueScreen on Windows 7 CAB drivers

I am using the standard CAB files for Windows 7 x64 and injecting them into the image during the WinPE phase.  However, getting bluescreen error 0x0000007B right on disk.sys on the PnP phase.  I have tried different BIOS settings, Legacy BIOS, AHCI and RAID, but no success.  I was wondering if anyone else had this issue and how to get around it?

Hi,

This past January,  I bought a DELL vostro 14 – 5459, i5, nvidia 830. I’ve been in contact with the local service branch of DELL five times but unfortunately they have not been any help so I am hoping that through the forum the problem can be solved:

It takes it more than 5 minutes (measured) to restart.

It won't shut off unless I force it by pressing the ON/OF button for a while.

It crashes with announcements like: “unexpected store exception" or "Inaccessible Boot Device", both with a blue screen.

I uninstalled driver by driver until I realized that the driver causing the problem is: "Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver". When I uninstalled it, the booting and the shut-off worked very well (15 – 20 second each).

But the problem is that when I uninstalled this driver, the computer froze almost after every mouse click. And took it about 30 seconds to perform a simple action like opening a folder or opening the start button menu, etc.

I tried this method of installing and uninstalling the driver a number of times and it behaves the same way consistently.

This is the way I installed Windows 10:

1. I cleaned the HD completely.

2. I made a clean install of Windows 10.

3. The bios were on "UEFI" with "Security Enabled"

4. I downloaded the drivers for "Windows 10 64 bit" from the DELL site.

5. I checked the driver's Checksum

6. I installed the drivers exactly as they were written under the "Installation Order" tab on the DELL site.

Horrible Experience and bad resolution

I wanted to warn those of you who are considering ordering a PC/Notebook/Laptop with Dell to reconsider. 

I found my way to Dell because I have used them in the past and I needed to order a PC for work. I ended up placing the order online and then I was told that the delivery would be on the 23rd of February, which was roughly 3 weeks away and I was hoping to get it expedited (I even offered to pay more) but they told me that there was nothing they could do.

I wasn't terribly upset, it is what it is.

Over the next few weeks, I was checking my order online regularly, and, there was no change in status. It said in production during this whole time. I also signed up for shipping notification via email so that I would know when it went out because I need this laptop ASAP.

To my surprise, I received a call the day before the laptop was to be delivered. The customer support representative that I was dealing with, called me to inform me that the order that I had placed had been cancelled due to the fact that they used the wrong SKU for an AC adapter in the order. 

Obviously, I was surprised to find that they had done this and didn't let me know, or even update the system so that I would have enough time to order another laptop with them or find some sort of resolution to this issue. They didn't substitute another AC adapter, they just stopped production on the unit and didn't even have the decency to inform me in a timely manner that I was out of luck.

The representative said that they do have units that are available for priority shipping that would be shipped tomorrow and I said it would be okay to work out a quote for one.

We ended up working out a quote for a Laptop that was not what I originally ordered, it had a smaller screen, a smaller HDD and it didn't have the processor that I wanted, but it was ~200 dollars more. 

TL;DR - This is pretty much the worst customer service I have ever received. The ridiculousness of the situation is that they made the mistake, they didn't notify me of it in a timely manner, they even had the gall to offer me something that wasn't what I wanted as a replacement AND they wanted me to pay more. What a joke. This is the first time and the last time I will ever order anything from DELL. I definitely will not recommend them to anyone. I have been a long time customer with IBM and I believe that is where I will stay.

ThunderBolt 3 Dock - TB15 - No Support

I'm starting a new thread in hopes that Dell acknowledges and fixes this problem!

The Dell ThunderBolt 3 Dock - TB15 has both a Service Tag number and an Express Service Code number printed on the bottom of the unit. Neither of these numbers are recognized by the Dell support website. I purchased and received this dock almost 30 days ago. Here are the numbers:

SVC TAG -<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>

Express Service Code - <ADMIN NOTE: Express service code removed per privacy policy>

Can someone from Dell please explain why valid service tag and express codes on a product that has been shipped to customers is not recognized by the dell support system? When will this be resolved? It is bad enough that this product, so far, doesn't work correctly. Not being able to access support information is really unacceptable.

Inspiron 15R 5537 WEBCAM NOT WORKS on WNDOWS 10

Hello everyone, I did a reinstall of Windows 10 and apparently it worked fine except for the webcam, when it start the camera the LED next to the camera is turned on but no image appears, when I close the application the light does not turn off and if I try to run it again appears a message saying that other program is using it so I have to turn off the laptop

I followed the instructions for troubleshooting, uninstalling the device and restarting the laptop, windows installs again the drivers but the problem is not corrected, also has made updating drivers for the computer less than the BIOS. I had a bad experience with an update BIOS with the same equipment and the mainboard was damaged and had to be rerepleaced.

Someone have any idea about this issue

Dell XPS 15 9550 Thunderbolt and Fan Speed

Downloaded the newest Thunderbolt driver this morning. It MAYBE fixed the occasional outage problem that many are having with Thunderbolt/USB-C port adapters - jury is still out on that.

Here is what it DID NOT FIX: The fan speed. No matter what I plug in to that port, the fan revs up and stays up. 

I disconnect all USB-C adapters and revert to my USB 3.0 equivalents and everything works fine. I have a 3.0 LAN/Gigabit port and a Plugable 3.0 to HDMI adapter that are working great with no fan revving.

The minute I use my USB-C versions, that fan gets spinning. Why? Watching my Task Manager, I can see 1-4% CPU, 20% Memory, 1-7% disk. There is NO REASON for that fan to be running.

Until Dell and Intel get that Thunderbolt port dialed in, I'm staying on good ol' USB 3.0. At one level, that is frustrating as I bought the XPS 15 partly because of the promise of the "One port to rule them all."
