Hi,

Just bought Dell Inspiron 5559. It was supposed to be a 1920x1080 but much to my surprise it has a dual graphics card where the default Intel is a limited 1366x768 and the other card is AMD which should be able to reach 1920x1080, when you have to set the desired game in the AMD CCC to load accordingly.

The thing is that this laptop was NOT bought for games at all but for office work. My requirements are little: to be able to use Windows desktop in a 1920x1080 and not settle for 1366x768. It is kind of frustrating to have an AMD card that should allow the Full HD but I am force to use the built-in Intel one (BTW, if the Intel was capable of reaching the high-res, that would have been perfect).

Is there any way to achieve that by tweaking BIOS or anything else?

I'm looking for a Dell laptop (have had two in the past). It must be 17" with a backlit keyboard, good quality screen for photo-editing.and (importantly) a well designed keyboard as I do a lot of word processing.

Touch pads are a big concern. I don't use a mouse - so the touch pad has to be first class, i.e. smooth and without that annoying random jerkiness that bedevils some laptops (including one of my previous Dells). The trouble is that you can't find out if its rubbish until after you've bought it.

Any recommendations for which Dell laptop would suit my needs?  (Oh, and a minimum of bloatware please!)

Hi,

I have a Dell L702x laptop.

I recently upgraded from Windows seven to Windows 10.

The upgrading process worked smoothly.

But the trouble is the following :
- the hard disk usage is most of the time close to 100%.
This leads to the fan working nearly all the time.

The configuration of the laptop is as follows :
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz, 2395 MHz
BIOS/Date Dell Inc. A19, 07/09/2012
NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M
Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
RAM : 8 Go
TOSHIBA MK2561GSYN SCSI Disk Device : 232,89 Go (90 Go free)

On Internet, I found other users facing the same high disk usage after upgrading to Windows 10.

Therefore I tried to implement various suggestions, but none of them reduced the hard disk usage :
Upgrading drivers
Disable Windows Search
Disable BITS
Turn off "show me tips about Windows"
Change the virtual memory from default to customized (set initial at 8192 Mo and set max at 16384 Mo)
Disable Superfetch (but was it really necessary as my disk is not an SSD ?)

Would you have any feedback in upgrading L702x (or other similar notebooks) to Windows 10 ?
Did you face any similar problem ?
Would you have any advice to try to fix the matter ?

Hi,

I bought a dual band wireless router today. I configured the router and started it. Somehow I am only seeing 2.4 Ghz wireless profile in the laptop. 5 Ghz connection is not visible. So, I wanted to check, if my laptop even supports 802.11ac specification.

I got Vostro 5470 with window 8 and i just upgrade it to window 10. After some upgrade, majority of my keyboard key is not working. I only can use the on screen keyboard to type. This makes it difficult on work .  I have installed latest driver. Please help me . Please advise. Thanks.

Is my 1TB NVMe defective?

I decided to research why when I unzip files it takes awhile when there lots of little files (compared to my work 2 year old work laptop that has a SSD for the same zip file).

I updated BIOS to 1.1.15. Updated about everything from the dell site. Still no improvements.

I ran Crystal DiskMark 5.1.1 x64 and the results made me sad but also explained the slowness.

The zip file is ~23MB (lots of little files) and unzipped its about ~92MB

It's painful to watch it unzip. My older work laptop SSD screams through this file. 

It is also worth mentioning I ran dell diagnostics and there was an error code 2000-0151, could not send DST Short. It is NOT running under AHCI but RAID (seen lots of reviewers commenting on that). I've spent the past several hours looking online at several other people's issues and possible solutions and not entirely convinced the right answer has presented itself.

UPDATED
Based on Techgee's suggestions, it reminded me of the troubleshooting I had to do for why "right-clicking on the desktop" the context menu took a long time to show up. Based on research, they recommended looking at the explorer shell (using shellviewex) and disabled Nvidia/Intel shell integration (incase anyone had that issue too).

Anywho, one of the steps was to load into SafeMode to see if it was some service. And it seems to be the case... see results being in safe mode. Night day difference

Now the hunt is to find out which service (maybe Anti-Virus) or integration plugin that is causing the slow down :( *sigh*

Hi,

I have found a problem with XPS 13 2015 (9343) Developer Edition with touchscreen on Ubuntu 15.10.

Problem is with the key combo for changing tabs in Chrome (CTRL+FN+UP or DOWN). 

It seems like this problem only affects BIOS A07 as downgrading to A05 fixes it completely.

To reproduce:

- Open Chrome

- Create 3 browser tabs (CTRL+T)

- Now just press CTRL+FN+UP (or DOWN) (try pressing UP quickly after pressing CTRL+FN). It if changes tabs just wait 5 seconds without any key and try the combo with DOWN if you used UP previously or viceversa.

- Repeat previous step and sometimes you will see how the combo key fails and it doesn't changes tabs.

The 5 secs wait between tries is important because it seems that when the combo works and you keep CTRL+FN pressed the next touches don't fail.

Downgrading BIOS to A05 fixed the problem for me, so it seems like some change in A07 introduced this bug.

Just replaced the motherboard and processor and fan and now the computer will not boot.  Volume lights cycle then nothing. Does anyone know what this could be.  At one point it did boot then screen go garbled and system locked at the dell logo.  Must be a loose connection but where.

I installed a 250GB Samsung EVO 850 (non Pro) mSata SSD in a Dell Latitude E6540.

Fresh Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit install

Sophos  SafeGuard 5.50 full disk encryption

16GB RAM

RAID On mode set in BIOS, but no RAID volume sets

A16 BIOS version

Intel QM87 LPC Controller driver version 9.4.0.1023

I am running disk benchmarks and getting about 40% of the throughput of the specs.  ATTO, Samsung Magician, and AS SSD all reporting similar results.  Appears to be running at SATA II speed 3Gbps instead of 6Gbps.

E6540 uses an Intel QM87 chipset, which runs 6 SATA Ports @3Gbps and 4 SATA ports @6Gbps

Intel Rapid Store Technology reporting 6Gbps SATA Transfer rate for the SSD.

Samsung Magician is unable to detect the SATA interface.

AHCI is not an option, as it breaks SOPHOS and the drive will not boot, RAID I believe delivers the same performance as AHCI.

I disabled 2 of the SATA ports in the BIOS, only detects the 2 drives on SATA-0 (HDD)  and SATA-4 (SSD).

The WiGig adapter has been disabled.

WLAN, WWAN, and Bluetooth are enabled.

How can I check the number of SATA ports being used? or enabled?  I am assuming the SATA ports are running @3Gbps, SATA II mode.

We have a latitude XT3 laptop 64 bit and I tried upgrading to windows 10.   However, when I did the screen goes crazy.   I am able to click on things because it is auto selecting items.   The mouse jumps around, the touch screen will not work because it acts like it is clicking on things itself.   It almost acts like it is possessed.

It works fine on windows 7, but when I upgrade to windows 10 this occurs.   I also tried upgrading all the drivers on windows 7 and the same thing happened.   I had to do a system restore to fix the issue.   What is the issue and is anyone else having this issue.

Dell Inspiron 3000 11" (3147) - 5 beeps 4 times on boot, and when it boots, there is no WIFI (network card also not listed in device manager).

All I could find on that beep code is that "5 beeps means replace CMOS battery".

But it's not "5 beeps", its "5 beeps 4 times", and my CMOS battery is fine at 3+ volts. I replaced it just in case, but it still did not help any, as expected. Any ideas?

I tried to install 2 driver versions (10.0.370.94 and 10.0.10125.21277) but result is the same. Also I look through MS sites/forums, there was no solution.

And I double checked that write lock is off and my second dell laptop with last Win7 updates is working great with the same cards. Any help is appreciated.

Is anyone ever did a warranty transfert? I filled the form 3 weeks ago but nothing yet... Even after 8 calls, more tha 6 hours on the phone nobody seems to care... My computer is down and DELL DOESN'T WANT to ship parts before warranty transfert. It is brand new and already ***. Anyone ever experience such poor customer service from DELL? Cannot imagine how bad it is

Reinserting Ram. Connector module is not popped up and can't pop it up by pushing clips outward. Any ideas about how to reinstall the ram?

Hi

This is my first time on this forum.

I have spent more than 10 hours trying to figure out why my touchpad no longer works.

I even did a factory reset to see if it would resolve this issue and it did not.

I fear that my touchpad no longer works.

The closest thing to getting my touchpad to work was from this steps in this amazon review:

By close I mean I was able to left click using the touchpad and that was it.

My laptop works fine if I have my USB mouse connected to it but there are times when I don't want to use the mouse. 

Please help!

My monitor goes from bright to dim and back and forth.  Any suggestions?

I've tried 3 times to download system detect with no luck.  Says .exe is corrupt or invalid.

Hello together,

my bluetooth constantly stops working when waking up the computer from energy saving. I am using Windows 10 on the XPS15 L521x. I installed the newest driver from the dell homepage. 
After waking up from energy saving mode, I can't see bluetooth in the Windows notification panel, and my devices can't connect. In the device manager, I see the "DELL Wireless 1901 Bluetooth" with an exclamation mark. Reinstalling the driver solves the problem only until the next time...

The problem seems to occur only when the notebook goes from standby to energy saving mode after the 3h timout. When i choose standby or energy saving manually and open the laptop again, bluetooth still works.

Does anybody have an idea how to solve this?

Well, I've been having many issues with my Dell Inspiron 3542, I have updated all my drivers and deleted tons of junk, but it somehow my PC turned into a toaster (Another word for horrible PC), even Dell Backup and Recover thinks that it's a toaster.

Back to the main issue, the PC is constantly crashing and gives me BSODs or just randomly restarts (No errors or warnings, just turns off and restarts), sometimes the CPU goes crazy and starts messing up the PC, the graphics is another issue, TONS OF DROPPED FRAMES, IT'S DRIVING ME INSANE. The Realtek driver creates static which also DRIVES ME INSANE (Good thing I use a USB Sound Card with my Headset), there's a huge delay with every button I press (Like 20ms), Windows Explorer crashes EVERY TIME. THERE IS SO MUCH BLOATWARE THAT MY PC CAN'T EVEN OPEN UP A GAME! The front Bezel of my laptop sometimes falls down and the final issue is that I can't even put my Computer to sleep or Hibernate or EVEN TURN IT OFF because of a random issue with my motherboard won't allow me too and I have to manually hold the power button for 1 minute in order to reboot my laptop, I hear a high pitched noise (Not loud) inside my PC when I turn it off.

This is a general whine. I use a Macbook for work but purchased my Dell for personal use.  I thought it would be easier to continue using Windows programs--huge mistake.

I have that sensitive thumbpad that shifts me everywhere but where I am at the moment. I constantly get pop up windows for things like Dell Support Assist and Dell Recovery (Done that, but it keeps popping up to ask me to upgrade to premium). 

I work 6 days/week and I don't have time to go through all the support forums to get rid of the bloat. I've looked at the thumbpad problem only to find out there's nothing I can do, since users with the same problem have installed new thumbpads with same results.

I have no issues with the Macbook, and all the user interfaces are so easy to navigate, unlike the Windows 10.

I just want Dell to know how frustrated I am with this laptop. If I could return it I would. I bought it last summer.

btw, the thumbpad issue happened 6 times just within this post, and I have the thumbpad set to least sensitivity.

Hi! I need help identifying which drivers to download for the model the following drivers says the following error:  Windows could not find driver software for your device.  I believe this is the problem for the reason I cannot connect to the WIFI.  Shows no connection.

SM Bus Controller

Standard VGA Graphic Adapter

Please help!!!!
