I just downloaded the disk image (iso) of my new computer's operating system and when I try to burn the image to disk, it will not fit.  It is the Win10 iso for my specific computer and is 4.9 GB.  Why would they give you an image than cannot be put on a DVD.  Windows 10 does not take up that much space when you download it from Microsoft.

Dear All,

I am looking to system restore my Dell Inspiron 13z laptop to factory settings. I have read through many guides, other posts, and the manual for this computer however I am incapable of finding the necessary solution.  My Dell DataSafe and Local Backup does not provide the option to restore to factory settings.  The tab is there, however it is not clickable.  If there is anybody who can kindly help me with this I would not be able to thank you enough!

Basic Specifications of my 13z include Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit. The system model is Inspiron 5223 and my DirectX version is DirectX 11.

further details to my config:

- system bios is current (v1.1.9)

- all windows 10 updates are installed

-  all dell updates are installed

- dell diagnostics quick test successfully completed  without any errors

? is there any hidden bios option, which has to be enabled???

Many thanks for every answer! robert

Vostro 2520 5 beeps pause 5 beeps contstantly

Hi,

Our work laptop keeps beeping 5 times, then pauses, then 5 more beeps and does this continually. It will not log on, keeps logging off and does this in a loop.

It seems to do this every 6 months after we change the cmos battery. We have purchased many different types of batteries from cheap to expensive and the same problem happens every 6 months.

Is there an issue with this Vostro 2520 laptop?

The Tag number is:<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>. Express Service Code is <ADMIN NOTE: Express service code removed per privacy policy>

We are unable to get it onto the internet as it will not load properly. When this happened 6 months ago and after replacing the CMOS battery we did all relevant Dell updates and was hoping that this had solved the problem but alas this is not so.

Any help would be most grateful.

Kind Regards

Jacquie

SD Card driver causing system freeze on Latitude E6430

I have a Latitude E6430 running Windows 10 64-bit. When I put the laptop to sleep and then wake it, the SD card reader attempts to mount as a disk drive, and then the system completely freezes (no mouse movement or anything). I found that disabling the SD card reader in Device Manager works, but I use the reader fairly often and would like to be able to have it activated. Is there a fix for this?

Windows 10 Battery Life Issues

I recently updated my Dell Windows 8.1 laptop to Windows 10, and I was able to update it smoothly. However, I've noticed that my battery life is considerably smaller. The laptop is over a year old now, so it's not in perfect. Before, my battery could last 3-4 hours, now it's down to 1.5-2 hours. I use Battery Save Mode, my brightness is only 20%, and I Ieave airplane mode on because I read it improves battery life.
I did a Power Efficiency Diagnostics Report to see if there are any issues, but I don't understand what some of it means. Could anyone look at it and give me some advice? Thanks for any help! PS: I've only put in the errors and not the warning to make it more brief.

2x Dell Vostro 1550 & 3550 Keyboard Malfunction (out of the Blue)

Hi Guys thanks for reading this I hope you are all well.

This is an odd one so I will start from the Beginning. A friend of mine purchased a Dell 1550 (second hand) after I pronounced a clean bill of health for it, then when my friend replaced the hard drive in the 1550(a) the keyboard stopped working, on the HDD was a pre-installed version of Elementary OS.

The Mouse pad works just not the keyboard. Simple I thought, when replacing the HDD he must have not put back the keyboard ribbon, or so I thought.

It was in there properly, so I thought it must be the OS but it won't boot into the BIOS settings (F2 or temp boot F12).

Fortunately I got my hands on another Dell 1550 (as this is a good friend who I owe a favour), I then Replace the keyboard from 1550a with 1550b, and it does not work!
I then try putting the keyboard which I switched BACK to 1550b and that Stopped Working?
So not only did 1550a not accept the new keyboard it seems to have stuffed it up some how.

I then search the forums and Try removing the battery, power cord and holding the on button for 30 seconds but still to no avail. (on all of them), I also removed the battery for a few hours and tried again but still the keyboard would not work!

Now. I got another Dell, a dell vostro 3550 and got its keyboard (very similar except with a back light, out it into Dell 1550b and it did not work in 1550b or 1550a, I put it back into the 3550 and only the back light (which was not plugged in) works. This was running windows 8 (and you cant go into the bios).

This has stummped me, does anyone have any thoughts?

Slow Inspiron 5000

Two months ago I bought my third Dell Inspiron 5000, nothing wrong with the previous two just time to upgrade. However this will be the last one I buy and will be asking for my money back. Since day one this computer is the slowest thing on earth. Can't even keep up with my typing and I type with two fingers. It takes several minutes to start and two hours to back up my phone. A ridiculous amount of time that I don't have. I ran the dell diagnostics and nothing came up wrong. I called your costumer support and after deleting everything and over one an a half hour on the phone your tech states that I should buy a faster computer with a 750 ram, he stated that because this computer is meant to "conserve engergy" it runs so slow. I'm not a very literate tech person because it is not my field of expertise. But when my 2007 Inspiron is running faster than the 2015 there is clearly a problem. Very very very frustrated and disappointed. Not a computer I will buy again or recommend to anyone. And last but not least very poor costumer support.

Installing windows on default UBUNTU machine- dell inspiron 3551

I have bought dell inspiron 3551, pentium 4 laptop with default ubuntu OS.

I need to change the OS from UBUNTU to windows but I am facing following problem/s.

When I try to boot the system, the initial windows files load successfully until windows 'splash screen' but then it say: The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor for an updated BIOS. (please refer to the following screen shot).

I tried to update the BIOS but the latest version on dell website is A00 and the same is installed on my machine.

If I will get past this (with your help) I would need help for changing the default file system from fat32 to NTFS to install the windows. I am trying to install windows 7 ultimate 64bit from a year old copy of the image.

I need help ASAP from dell support or someone who has done this before.

I will really appreciate your help.

Thanks

RS

My Dell ins. 1525 won't turn on at all. I tried charging it for a few hours, But nothing. When I say no sign of power, I mean it. It won't show any lights, any reboot screens when I try to hold down the power. I tried f12 for a hardware check, but it won't respond to anything. I DID see smoke come out of the laptop (yes  I'm serious) the last time it was on. I turned it off, But then when I tried to turn it back on, nothing works. Can anybody help?

I updated webcam driver, uninstalled and reinstalled driver to no avail. Keep getting "installation error" message. Dell Device Manager shows latest driver is installed and device is functioning property. However webcam is not working.

Dell XPS 15 9550 Fn key options

$

Currently, one can only toggle between Fn keys being media keys or F1-F12 keys. On my old Dell XPS 13, when Fn keys are set as media keys, Alt + F4 would still close the window. On this Dell XPS 15, one has to press Alt + Fn + F4 to do the same when Fn keys are set as media keys.

Can we have a BIOS update that automatically changes the Fn keys to be F1-F12 when a modifier key, such as Alt, is pressed?

I know I can toggle between media/F1-F12 via Fn + Esc but it's a stupid hassle to have to toggle each time I just want to close a window. I want Fn keys to be media keys EXCEPT when a modifier key, such as Alt, is pressed.

I got this laptop (from give away) and am not able to login for 2 reasons-one, don't know the password the former user had put in, and two, it says "no hard drive/or use the USB drive".

Please (1) how can I log into 'safe mode' on this laptop (it has Windows 7 Home)?

And what kind of hard drive (internal or external) will work better for this model?

Thank you for all your answers.
