Dell Inspiron 3542 Won't Turn ON

0
0

I tried a lot to find a solution online but was my bad luck. My laptop's not starting even after pressing the power button. I can hear a sound of constant tick-tick-tick-tick as long as I keep the power button pressed.

After trying a lot of times, it suddenly get started and again when I tried to move it gently, it turned off.

Real problem is that the vendor whom I purchased through didn't update the warranty of my laptop and now Dell wants me to wait for another 10-15 days. I have every proof that I've bought it in February 2015 and still they want me to wait. That ***!

Never expected it from a company like Dell. Customer satisfaction was the reason I choose a Dell device.

A guy whose earning only through his laptop can't wait for a that long. Extremely disappointed.

Buying a Dell laptop? You are in for trouble

I have always had a Dell desktop or laptop.  I recently purchased a Inspiron 3147 laptop.  It had a distorted audio problem, among other things.  I sent it back to Dell for repair 2X and had a service tech come to my house three different times.  They replaced just about everything except the battery and keyboard.  During all this repair, the service tech was having problems with the touchpad & keyboard connections.  They were intermittent, and difficult to get pins aligned in the micro-connectors.   The keyboard was somewhat intermittent after all these repairs, now half of the keyboard is non functioning, due to these repairs.  Dell would not ever replace this laptop.  I am now stuck with a piece of junk after having it for ~ 14 months.  Buyer beware from Dell.  You only get to talk to the people in India, and they claim there are not any supervisors in USA.  In the trash it goes, and off to buy another laptop.  It will NOT BE A DELL!  They have lost a lifetime customer.

Latitude E5540 Power Adapter Noise

I have noticed the 65 watt power adapter for one of my user's Latitude e5540 is making a whining/whirring noise.  I know there are internal components that operate at certain frequencies; however, typically those shouldn't be in the range of human hearing.

Can a Dell support tech confirm whether or not this noise is cause for concern?

Inspiron 5735 Three beeps, still functioning. What to do?

I bought this computer about six months ago, and when starting up this morning, it started giving me a three beep warning when starting up.   The machine is still functioning normally, by all appearances, but I was wondering what steps I should take to troubleshoot it.

Vostro 2520 wifi Driver from Dell Drivers (Win 10)

I cannot install the latest wifi driver for win10 from the download site - i.e. 1704.    I installed the 1506 driver that in Device Manager shows up as Dell Wireless 1703 802.1 (the driver date showing as 11/12/2014).  When I try to install the 1704 update it says 'The update installer operation is unsuccessful'.  Looking at the View Installation Log things look ok until it reads .... Hardware id is not found in drive inf.  Either the device is present or the device is not supported.....  This seems a little strange to me as this is a Dell laptop and Dell driver.  Any advice appreciated.   (My specific issue is not having internet access despite a connection to my router.   I need to ensure I have the latest drivers.  As per Device Manager - the date of the install driver says 11/12/2014).

Inspiron 560 won't start; power button flashes amber; four RAPID beeps--FIXED!

Hey gang,

Mrs. Orca's Inspiron 560 had a meltdown yesterday.  While she was using it, her display froze and began blinking, then froze entirely.  She shut down by pressing and holding the power button.  Attempts to restart were unsuccessful; the system fans worked, but the computer emitted four very rapid beeps over and over and the power light was blinking.  After banging my head on this for about six hours, I stumbled upon the solution without knowing how I did it.  I consulted with my IT friends and here's our consensus fix:

What probably happened was this: She got hit with a transient voltage spike.  The computer's power supply has a built-in system protection circuit to keep the motherboard and hard drives from getting fried.  When the spike hit, the system protection cut in and shut off all of the power supply's outputs to the motherboard.  Obviously, the motherboard freaked out and stuff stopped working.

The rapid beeping I heard on startup was a probably warning alarm from the power supply telling me that the system protection circuit had been tripped.  I verified this by looking at the front panel power switch, which was blinking amber (normal is steady green); the rear panel power light (which was steady green) indicated that the power from the wall was OK.

I reset the power supply like this:

  1. Unplug the computer from the wall.
  2. Press and hold the front panel power switch for 15 seconds.  This drains any residual power in the power supply and motherboard.  Check that the rear panel power light (located on the power supply just below the AC connector) goes out.
  3. Open the access panel on the side of the computer.
  4. VERY IMPORTANTTouch the bare metal frame with a bare finger to get rid of any built-up static charge, then disconnect the power supply connectors from the motherboard, hard drives, etc.  (I think the CMOS battery on the motherboard provides a small voltage to the power supply so it remembers that something's wrong; disconnecting the power supply drains that, too.  I could be wrong about this.)
  5. Wait a couple hours, then reconnect the power supply to the motherboard, hard drives, etc..
  6. Once everything is reconnected securely, place the access cover back on the computer.
  7. Plug in the computer.  Check that the rear panel power light is on and green.
  8. Connect only the keyboard, mouse, and monitor.  Do not connect any other peripherals at this time.
  9. Press the power button on the front of the computer.  Check that the power button lights up steady green and no beeps are heard.  Check that the computer boots normally.

This worked for me.  If the computer does not boot and you still hear the rapid beeping, your power supply or motherboard may need to be replaced.

Hope this helps,

-terry-

Inspiron Flickering Screen on Battery Power

Hey everyone, I'm having a very strange problem that I cannot seem to fix. I've tried a lot of troubleshooting steps and none of them have seemed to work, so here we go.

It is a Dell Inspiron 14z 5423. The customer originally dropped the laptop and it cracked the screen and ruined the hard drive. I replaced the screen and the hard drive with an SSD, and I just did a Windows 8.1 (64-bit) reload a few days ago. Downloaded all the drivers directly from Dell and installed everything with no problem.

The problem that is happening is a weird brightness or flickering of the screen but only when it is booted into Windows or on battery power. If it is plugged into the AC adapter, the screen looks perfect with no issues. I can also have it on battery power in the BIOS or the Dell diagnostics with no flickering issues. It only occurs inside of Windows and on battery power, which led me to believe it is a driver or power management setting issue.

I have tested it with three different screens and it happens on all of them, so the screen is not the issue. I have tried all sorts of uninstalling and reinstalling of the graphics driver to no avail. Messed with Intel power management settings, sleep and hibernation settings, brightness settings, pretty much everything I could think of. To be clear, everything is up-to-date on this laptop. All Windows updates, the latest BIOS, and drivers.

I am open to any and all suggestions. My next troubleshooting step would be to order and install a brand new battery to rule that out as well, but someone out there must have experienced this before or have some ideas for fixes to try. The customer is wanting to get it back quickly, and I've already been fighting this issue for a few days.

Here's a link to the video of the issue:

Any and all help is greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Back of Inspiron 5520 got slightly wet with water

The back of the Inspiron 15R/5520 on the right side where the power jack and USB port got a little wet this morning.

The laptop continued to work fine on battery;

From reading other problems here, I have removed the battery, held the on button for 30 secs, and tried booting with just the AC power cord.    It does not power up.

I installed the battery and tried powering up without problems.

When connected to the power cord, the power light is not lit.   There is also no battery charging indicator.

I also get a message that the USB port is not recognized.

Right now, the battery is removed (less than 1 hour left on the battery).

Any advice is appreciated.    The laptop is long out of warranty.

Just recently purchased a Dell XPS (9950).  This laptop has two usb 3.0 ports but when I turn off the laptop, it stop charging anything that plugged into them.   Say I'm charging my iphone and then I close the lid, the charging stops.  I believed that these two ports are able to charge when the pc is off.  I tried calling but...

Can someone help me out with this, its a brand new laptop and I really, really need this feature.

Thank you

Disable touchpad

I have never been a big fan of touchpads, I would much rather use a mouse. Is there any way to disable the touchpad on my Inspiron 5558 laptop? On an unrelated topic is there a search function I can use in the forums here. I'd rather not add a new post if the problem has already been solved in the forum previously.

Dell Inspiron 3542 Dead

My wife has a Dell Inspiron 3542 15" laptop and it has worked perfectly the warranty ended on the 12/11/15 and this morning she went to start her laptop and nothing, it won't power on and the charge light is off, I have tested the power adaptor the light is on and there is power at the plug,

I have tried taking the battery out an plugging in the power, nothing

I tried taking the battery out unplugging the power and holding the power button, nothing

I think it may have a dead motherboard, which is not good in a 14 mth old laptop.

Any other ideas

Can't get dell system detect to work on my dell 8400

I downloaded and even got the icon but I keep getting the message below

Action required: Please install Dell System Detect (DSD) or retry the download. If installation was successful, you will see the DSD icon in the Windows taskbar. You may need to update an application setting. Right-click the DSD icon and select “Use secure connection (https).” Then, refresh the browser to begin the process again.

When I right click on the icon I only have 2options - about or exit. This is the first time I had trouble with the detection of course it's been a while since I've used it.
