I have a samsung 950 pro I am trying to install into my brand new Inspiron 15 7000 (7559) laptop. There was a 128gb M2 in the slot, but it is too small for my programs. I thought the greater speed of the 950 would be nice along with more storage.

The computer does not recognize the drive at all and I have searched and read until my eyes bleed and can't find any reason it should not (or should) work on this machine.

This is the Skylake  version, the specs from Speccy say the PCIe lanes is x16. Here is a screenshot of my mobo.

Has anyone had success with this in the Inspiron? I have updated the Bios to 1.0.3. What am I missing? No matter what I read and try this drive is not showing in bios, computer management, nowhere. Is the drive defective??

My laptop is creating a loud fan noise . when i ran ePSA , i got the error code as 2000-0511 ie CPU fan problem .

I updated my BIOS to A14 but its is not yet resolved . 

I dont have an warranty , when i called the dell tech support , they asked me to change the fan kit .

So , Is there any other option to solve this issue ??

Hi folks,

Something strange is happening on my dell m6800.

When i plug me newly bought ssd hard drive, it don't detect it.

The weird part is that when i plug out and in again my Logitech mouse receiver, while my hard disk is connected, it detects it.

It also detects the hard drive if i reboot.

If i do a scan with the dell detection software, it says usb 5880 test cannot be done.

Any idea?

J have problem with my new dell inspiron 15 3542. When the laptop is on, and j charge the baterry to full, from that point, with normaly use (listening the music, surfing, etc.) the baterry least for 3-4 hours, but in the evening when j shut down the laptop, no mether how the state of baterry is, in the morrning when j want to turn on the laptop, j can not because the baterry is drain to 0%, and that happens always. J bought the laptop 6 days ago, it is new. Do anyone have the same or similar problem. Help please....

I have a Dell Studio 1737 that I purchased new several years ago.  It was working fine with no indicators of problems when last used.  The battery is new. When I tried to turn it on today, the system would not boot up.  When I plugged in the AC adapter, the white LED by the DC port turns on briefly and then goes out. When I push the on button, the lights above the keyboard flash, the fan starts, it starts to make the usual boot up noises and then everything stops. No light, no sounds. The LCD never shows signs of life.

I have tried:

1. Checking the DC voltage at the tip of the AC adapter plug. I got a reading of 19.6V even though the led on the plug is not lite.

2. Removing the battery and tried powering on using the AC adapter only. Same thing happens. Tried with battery power without the AC adapter plugged in. Same thing happens.

3. Tried reseating the memory cards.

4. In the past I have replaced the DC board. Since the LED lights are flashing and the fan starts, it appears the system is getting power.

Any ideas? Even though the laptop is well past its prime, I would love to have it running as a backup. I have repaired this laptop more times than I can remember so I am well familiar with repairing it. I am guessing it might be a motherboard issue which means it gets recycled due to cost issues.

Do I have warranty?

Hi,

I have Dell 5520 laptop old 3,5 years. In 5th month of 2015 motherboard stopped working and have been replaced with new one, warranty still was valid so I didnt need to pay anyrhing.

Before few days laptop stopped working again and wont turn on. I think that motherboard stop working one more time (because motherboard was replaced 4 times in 3 years warranty period), so my question is, do I still have warranty on part, in this case on motherboard?

I keep getting an error message, about my 65w dell adapter not working on my computer.   It is also not charging the battery.  Why,  I have an Inspiron 17 it is  1 year old,   do I need to get a new battery for this computer?

The driver was downloaded from Dell Support.... version: v.19.0.15.2

When i bought this computer, it works fine, but not now, since I upgraded to win10

Everything is fine, except the gestures.

Gestures, like scroll.... aren't working at all.

Obviously the driver from Dell Support is not the latest one..

Because the driver from synaptics.com is already v.19.0.19.1

Because I noticed that it says  Installing a generic driver may result in the loss of OEM-customized Synaptics pointing device functionality on synaptics.com, therefore I didn't download the driver from it.

My computer is Alienware15 early 2015

Any way to solve my problem? Thank you.

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone else has seen this issue with the M.2 SSD option. With our laptops, we lock the Bios and HD's with a password in the Bios in case of theft. I noticed that I could lock down all the usual things in the Security section of the Bios, but locking the SSD was not an option.

I'm trying to determine if this is normal behavior or if something is wrong. I have just updated the bios to the one released today on Jan. 5th, XPS_9550_1.1.15 and it made no difference. All drivers up to date.

System:

XPS 15 9550

Intel Core i7-6700HQ @ 2.6GHz

NVMe PM951 Samsung M.2 SSD

Intel HD 530/NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M

16GB Ram

Microsoft enabled with the TH2-/ Autumn-Update of Windows 10 the Intel Speed Shift technology for skylake CPUs. Sadly, it seems that SST is still disabled on the XPS 15. Is there a plan to activate this feature with a future BIOS update?

I have Dell Prosupport, so I thought I would share what I saw the tech agent did to my computer, in case it might help anyone else.

Phase I:

-support.dell.com ->product support ->enter service tag

-Your computer detail will show up, make sure it shows that you have the correct operating system you have.

-category ->system management ->update Dell Command ->follow prompts to install and restart the computer

-If the SD card reader still does not work (mine did not), go to phase II.

Phase II:

-search Dell drivers & downloads ->find memory card reader for windows 7/8 ->reinstall ->follow prompts and restart the computer. (I was told by the Dell agent that the driver for windows10 is not available yet. Use the one for windows 7/8)

Now, SD card reader is working again - beautifully in Windows 10.

Good luck. I feel your pain.

Dear Sir/Madam, I resetted the BIOS to factory defaults and since then it appears the message "Enter System Password" at boot up. I NEVER set a password, so I don't know the password. If I type 3 times a pass then I am getting a PPID string and the laptop turned off. My Inspiron 3521 will not boot up.  Wont get to BIOS, it makes the whine like it's about to start, then there is a click/beep that sounds just like a bad hard drive.  Replaced the Hard drive and memory- still does it. I thought originally the click was a bad hard drive, but the sound definitely come out of the speakers.  Any thoughts?

I just got the 18,000 mah power companion and had a quick question. Is it detrimental to the battery to leave it in line charging with my laptop (XPS 13) "all the time"?

I'm hoping the companion is smart enough to pass-through the power straight to the laptop when the battery is full. I'm primarily on A/C power but do take the extending trips from time to time.

After reading through all of the posts with the "beep" issues, it sounds like I may need a new motherboard? 

It seems this is a common problem with this computer or Dell laptops in general. I am upset because this computer is barely over a year old (so of course the warranty is out). 

I am technologically impaired, so a lot of the solutions offered wouldn't help me because I haven't the first clue what to do. It seems that motherboards are expensive and then having to have someone put it in for me will make it even worse. Is it even worth it?

Not sure I'm going to get a Dell next time. Never had a problem before this one, but this is way too new for me to have to spend that kind of money to fix it. 

It took me 2 days to get it to come on this time, so hopefully I can keep it in sleep mode so I can look for answers on what to do.

Feeling hopeless :/

Hi Dell community,

My laptop Inspiron 1764 from 2011 was working very well with win7 untill windows suggest I should update to win10 one month ago. The update been easy but after few hours i had a black screen and then impossible to boot.

I figured (too late) that the 1764 was not tested yet with win10 even if i had a pop up on my screen asking to update every day...

To make it short Dell told me that the only option was to go back to win7 but as my recovery CD was dead i had to buy a new one. Dell send me a Reinstallation DVD windows 7 home premium SP1 64bit. So I have formatted my disc, installed win7 from the CD, re installed all drivers from the dell web site (except ATI Radeon one) after disabling the video card but I’m still stuck with the same issue... the ATI AMD radeon 5450 still crash my laptop.

I'm only able to use it via the VGA after desinstalling the Display adapter in safe mode. Now I’m using standard VGA graphic adapter to boot without going to safe mode but with a really poor resolution and my screen still black.

I run all diagnostics on dell website and they passed.

Please help as I'm going crazy with this laptop! one month I'm working on the issue and each time i thought I have the solution it failed.

What do you recommend me to do?

Hi, I bought a, Dell Inspiron 7348 Hybrid, Laptop/Tablet, with Windows 10 about 3 months ago, and after about a month of owning it seemed to have a mind of it's own.
However my current problem causing me some gaming grief which is it's tablet mode auto switch.

I'll have my laptop sitting completely flat on the desk and all of a sudden, the keyboard disables and a pop up comes up asking me if I'd like to switch to tablet mode or stay in desktop mode, as if it thought that I had flipped the screen around to a tablet.
It then quickly changes back and forth between desktop and tablet mode which is quite annoying when you're trying to use the keyboard.

Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated! Cheers in advance!

Have a 1 1/2" black space across bottom of screen.  Display is not centered vertically.  Very difficult to bottom of documents without moving or hiding the task bar.  I have updated drivers but nothing changed.

I've read the posts that I've found related to my boot problem and have tried suggested resolutions. However, nothing has helped. This problem occurred without warning.  My computer was working last night, but when I tried to restart this a.m., it will not pass the Dell screen and F2 and F12 do not work.

Are there any other steps I can try?  I have reset the memory.
