Replaced motherboard, need to change the service tag. (XPS 15 L521X)

$

Installed a new mother board in my XPS L521X from another damaged unit. Motherboard works fine except that now my service tag has changed to the other unit's tag.

How do I change it back to mine?

I'm running Windows 8.1 x64 on UEFI boot with BIOS version A16 (latest).

Tried BIOS update with no change, read about utility tools like smbios, plattags (platformTags), svctag.exe, asset.com but all the forums seem to suggest that they only work on older systems.

PlatTags works on new systems but seems to only edit the owner and asset tags.

Help please.

Dell XPS 15 9550 Crackling Noise coming from speakers when plugging and un plugging power supply.

$

Hi

I Got my XPS 15 9550    Build Date Dec-16-2015 Bios Ver 01.00.07 4302.13 UEFI

The fault I was able to find so far that is disturbing issue.

Condition1  - "When pressing  brightness keys F11-F12" (little crackling distorted noise from speakers)

Condition 2 - " When music playing out of speakers also at sometimes can hear crackling noise coming" ( like speakers can't handle the frequency properly)

Condition3 major one -  "At the time of plugging in power supply in or out of laptop."                                                                                                                                                When video/audio/u-tube playing I can hear  short crackling noise lasting about (4-6 seconds) output sound also gets distorted coming from laptop speakers same results happening when using headphones except crackling noise less noticeable sounds becomes more distorted like a tape that about to get jammed.

So not sure what's goin on there I have latest Audio Realtek driver installed & Bios 01.00.07.

As far as power laptop came with 130W so crackling happening even with 130W also I have Precision m3800 laptop that use same power source try that as well same results so it is not defective power supply it is something else

Makes me believe that issue with speakers hardware picking up some kind of interference  (or crammed to close) or insulation are very poor.

Will be returning that one for full refund as this one I got for gift cant give it like that.

but I have ordered 2 so will try another one soon.

and also  CPU throtling as mention still  not  happening when plugging power source.

to sum up the major issue I experienced is the speakers as very poor sound with crackling noise here and there. power supply  (plugging /un plugging  while audio playing) cause most cracking noise.

plugging headphones in and out while sound is playing sometimes becomes unresponsive crashing.

So the speakers and sound  quality output  are very poor on this one.

besides  that seems to be good

Feed back would be good.

Did anyone experience similar issue and if yes what was your resolution possible fix (hardware replacement / drivers ect / settings adjustments)

Regards

Edward

When trying to update the Intel Management Engine Interface driver (2013), I get an error message stating that the update was not performed.

The current version of 2012 this not working. With the following message in the Hardware manager.

This device can not start. (Code 10)

An invalid parameter was passed to a service or function.

And when trying to update I get the following log: (Please visit the site to view this file)

I also tried to download the old driver to try to repair and get the same error.

How do I make this update or at least recover the function of the driver?

I am using a Dell Inspiron 7520.

No power - Inspiron15 7537

I hibernated my laptop in the evening and turned off the adapter and now it won't power up.  The adapter shows power is reaching the laptop but the power light does not show at the front of the laptop and pressing the power on key doesn't work.

None of the solutions on the Dell pages work as you seem to need to have the laptop on.  Any suggestions - is it the battery?

Thx David

E6530 touchpad vs mouse in W10

$

Since I upgraded to W10, the function key (fn-F5) for turning the touchpad on and off no longer works. The similar key for multiple screen selection (fn-F8) still works, but it appears differently than it did in W7. So I'm guessing that these keys are mapped to Window's functions, and that they don't operate at the BIOS level. So it would appear that W10 isn't playing well with the mouse/touchpad options. I'ved looked through the control panels as well and can't find anything there related to disabling/enabling the mouse or touchpad. Any idea how to get this to work again?

Inspiron 5758 only 1 Language recovery.

Ok so i bought my laptop at BestBuy. (in quebec canada)

i told the guy i wanted windows 10 to be in english because i was buying the Demo for a huge discount and the demo was loaded in french. he said i can select english when i do my first boot up.

I started it up, only has french option to begin.

i went ahead and reloaded the recovery and same thing... french only, so means the whole recovery only has the french version right?

i managed to download the english language packs for win 10. Thanks for that option microsoft.

Is there any way to change the recovery option to have English too? or do i need to send my system back in to BestBuy Geek Squad to do this?

XPS 15 9530 overheating constantly, coil whine and fan issues.

I have had issues with my XPS since I got it, and overall have been very dissatisfied with the service I received given I paid NZD $3000 for my laptop. However, as a last resort before just starting fresh with another brand I would love to enquire  (as the email contact brings me NO response) how much it would cost to replace (and if it is complex to do personally) the heatsink of a fan, and clean my laptop. The warranty ran last month, and as previously stated it wasnt actually good for anything at all given all the issues ive had, and the lackluster response (oh wait, I could pay $1200 to fix my laptop :\) despite at the time it falling under warranty. Anyway, given the warranty is over I would love to at least try to replace the heatsink and maybe the fans and HDD in the future to try recover my moneys worth, but dont really have the knowledge (or the money) to pay insanely large amounts of money to Dell to do the job. If anyone knows an estimated cost, and how complicated it is to do this, I would greatly appreciate recommendations. Thanks, and hopefully someone can help me out.

Inspiron 5759 suffers from same keyboard bug that XPS 13 had a BIOS update for

I cannot get through a paragraph without a double space being inserted randomly. It occurs typing normal speed, or fast.

It seems many users (read a few threads) had this same bug occur on their XPS 13 devices, and in fact a BIOS update was released specifically to resolve this problem: http://www.dell.com/Support/Article/us/en/04/SLN297563

Will us Inspiron 5759 owners be so lucky, or is Dell unaware that the same issue is occurring on Inspiron laptops? (FWIW, I had stock BIOS [1.0.6 A07] and updated to the BIOS released 11 Dec 2015 [1.1.3 A09], but no joy.)

I have done all troubleshooting steps, and this does not occur with an external keyboard hooked up.

Please Dell, release a BIOS update to fix this, like you did for the XPS users who complained on this forum.

Inspiron N5010 display scattered but passed the LCD Test

Hello,

My Inspiron N5010 laptop stopped working last night. I at first thought that the display was broken. I did the LCD test on it and it passed. I could see every solid color perfectly. Then I was looking around the forums and they said maybe it was the motherboard. So I plugged it into an external display and that also worked very well. The screen is kind of scrambled. When I first turn on the computer, the screen is totally blank. Then when it gets to the Windows 10 booting screen, the screen flashes. You can kind of see the logo for about a half of a second between the flashes, There are horizontal lines and a little bit of static.

Here is a short video of what I see when I turn on my computer. (Put it in slow motion if needed)

drive.google.com/.../view

Once it gets passed the windows booting screen, it pretty much does nothing after that. The screen it totally black. I can also remote desktop to it perfectly. Maybe a flicker every minute or so, but that is about it. I am not sure what it can be since it connects to the an external monitor perfectly and the LCD test works fine (Holding D and pressing the power button).

Thank you for your time.

P.S. I don't think it is the OS or hard drive since it doesn't work in the bios either.

Dell Latitude E6420 with Windows 10

Hi I have Windows 10 pro software & want to install it on Dell Latitude E6420 and Dell website is saying E6420 is not tested for win10. What should I do here. why E6420 is not tested when every other model is tested in this category. "Dell is not testing or developing Windows 10 drivers for this product. If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected."

New Dell E6420 Battery is not being recognized

$

The battery on my Dell E6420 has lost its ability to maintain a good charge, so I decided to replace it after years of use. I now have a genuine new Dell battery. I attempted to install it but the battery is not being recognized by my system. The battery indicator on my laptop is flashing nonstop orange and my PC does not "detect" a battery. My AC adapter is fine and is in good working order. My old battery is type M5Y0X and the new battery is type T54FJ. I have researched this issue extensively and have done the following with no success (listed in no particular order):

-Updated my BIOS to the latest release.

-In the BIOS settings, I tried changing from Express Charge to Standard Charge

-I've shut down my PC, removed the battery and AC adapter, held down the power button for at least 20 seconds to discharge before reinstalling the battery.

-Using Device Manager, I've uninstalled 3 listed entries of "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" underneath the "Batteries" tree, and then "Scanned for hardware changes" which then repopulates these three entries.

-Cleaned both connecting ports on my PC and new battery.

I have scoured this community and other online sources and have found no other solutions.

dell 14z mother board issue

$

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 14Z laptop which is out of warranty. There was some problem with the mother board and i got it replaced after paying 13000 rupees. I was told that it comes with a 3 month warranty period and was also informed that the mother board that i get will be a refurbished one. When i asked the technician if the refurbished mother board will last atleast a year, he assured me that it will work fine. But not even a month after i got it fixed, the mother board has stopped working. In spite of my regular calls to Support team and a confirmation from the local technician that the problem is with the mother board, i was delayed by the Support people saying that the problem is not with the motherboard. It took almost a month for the Dell people to send a technician to get the mother board fixed.

The issue doesnt end there. It has been 3 times now that the technician has come, and all the while it was DOA(Dead on Arrival). I am completely fed up with the kind of service that was given. When i said i no longer need this kind of a service and that i need my refund back, they first tell me that i will be getting only 12000 as refund for the 13000 that i paid. This was what they said on Saturday. Today i get a call saying that i cant claim the refund and that they are going to send some Superior technician and get it issue resolved as if it were the technicians fault if the mother board is a faulty one. I hope i will be getting better help with this issue.

Thanks.

Very Disappointing Service in Dell Malaysia

$

To whom it may concern:

I am a user of VOSTRO 5470, below were the chronological of my case when I call Dell Malaysia for help in servicing my laptop after the screen break down.

  1. I lodged in my report on 5-12-15, my case number is 921167835.
  2. 4 days later, ONLY I was informed that my laptop is out of warranty (was informed under warranty initially).
  3. After 6 days, ONLY I received quotation for parts replacement.
  4. After 9 days, I finally paid for the parts successfully (after long time suffered with payment troubles).
  5. After 16 days, I received parts after long time waiting.
  6. After 17 days, I received email asking for my address.
  7. After 19 days, I received call asking for my address AGAIN.
  8. After 23 days (TODAY) when raised my concern on the engineer service to person in charge, AGAINNN I am being asked for address (replied long time ago)

Remarks* I can share you history of email for referance.

I am deeply disappointed by the support given by DELL, I have enough with this kind of service. There were many times my email get replied that the person in charge is away, "please expect late reply", and i end up waited for days for a reply. There are too much difficulties to make good communication.

I would like to raise your high attention, and direct me immeidate EFFECTIVE resolution.
