Hi all.

I've got a fancy Dell Precision M4800 here, and the USB ports do not work with the latest Intel USB 3.0 drivers (version 4.0.0.36, dated 31 August 2015) installed.  I'm using the latest Intel drivers because they were updated three and a half months ago, whereas the Dell drivers (version 2.5.4.40, dated 6 June 2014) for the same thing were updated A YEAR AND A HALF AGO.

Anyone from Dell care to comment on why their drivers are unacceptably out of date compared to what Intel is offering on their website?  Anyone from Dell care to comment on why their laptops don't just work with standard driver packages, since everyone with more than two brain cells knows that OEMs can't be reasonably relied upon to keep their drivers and support even remotely up-to-date?

EDIT:  Thought I should mention that I tried the Dell driver package.  It didn't work.  I'm shocked. /s

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows 10 I bought second hand a few days ago. Then last night the right button of my mouse just stopped working. I tried uninstalling the mouse from the device manager and restarting, it's still not working. Can anyone help?

I have a Dell Studio 1749 running Windows Home Premium 64 bit. I want to add a Motorola H730 headset. I have the Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth module. That module doesn't see the headset and doesn't see my Samsung S5 with Bluetooth activated. My cell sees my laptop. I've downloaded the latest driver from the Dell web site. The version of that driver is 6.2.0.9603. Once installed the version shown in properties for the Bluetooth module is 6.2.0.9000. Any ideas why? I ran a PC diagnostic on the Bluetooth port and it's working OK. Mayday,Mayday

I am trying to add a 2.5" SSD SATA hard drive to my new Precision 5510 laptop.

I need to order the required hard drive interposer/adapter and bumper rails to do this.

I have done chat and phone calls to Dell sales with no success in getting correct part numbers.

I believe these photos depict the parts I need. They are taken from this thread from another 5510 owner -

First photo shows the side shock bumpers to hold the drive securely in the hard drive bracket - I have the drive and the bracket - and the adapter/interposer.

Second photo is the adapter/interposer.

Can anyone provide me with the required part numbers for either of these. The adpeter is the most critical.

I just bought this laptop . Ok, there is no hard drive indicator - I will get over it .

What about power light ???? Is it possible there is no power light indicator ? 

There is some glass or plastic on power button, just like light indicator...but it's not working ...

System: Dell XPS 13 9350

BIOS version: 1.1.7 (updated 12/09, first day received it)

Operating system: Windows 10 home (Pre-installed)

Symptom: freeze on Dell logo when restart from windows

12/09 received the new laptop.

12/12 find a failure of installment of windows update, then find out the system freeze at Dell logo when you try to restart from windows

12/12 run system diagnosis both under BIOS and windows environment: which revealed EPSA Code 151, Validation Code 125157, ending up with "Critical errors found" in the Error code lookup on the right side column, generating service request: 921522810

12/14 changing BIOS setting according to Dell agent:

Go to the Boot Tab and Change the SATA Mode = AHCI. Once you change this setting, press the F10
key to save and exit the screen. Then run the diagnostics by tapping the F12 key and selecting the Diagnostics option.Now the tests will pass. Once the tests pass, you can change the setting to defaults. The default settings are: Boot Mode = UEFI Secure Boot =
Enabled SATA Mode = RAID On

12/14 pass diagnosis both under BIOS and windows environment, but the problem remains, which means the system will still freeze on Dell logo when you try to restart from windows.

Hello,

I have an inspiron 13 7000 and I installed a ST240HM000 seagate 600 SSD. I then reinstalled windows 10.

Without fail everytime I turn the computer on, it says no hard drive detected, press F1 to reboot, I hit F1, then it boots windows fine. It has been doing this since I got the laptop on day 1 (which is when I put the SSD in it.) I have another inspiron 13 7000 that my wife uses, it behaves exactly the same after I put the same SSD inside of it...

I have the newest bios etc...

If i run the system diagnostics before hitting F1, the system diagnostics pass all tests fine, but it does see my SSD until I exit it and the system reboots and I strike F1 for it to reboot again. Its almost as if the SSD is not initializing on the first power up, only after striking F1. It must be a problem with the laptop, I have two laptops that exhibit the same behavior with the same SSD. I tried the SSD in two other laptops, an HP elitebook and a Lenovo T420 and the first time they boot up they see the SSD perfectly fine, no issues.

Please help!

Hi all,

I recently struggled with windows running slow, so i decided to reset my Dell l502x to factory state. I crated usb stick to boot the system from USB instead of hard drive. It took some time and after all wrote that the process was successful. 

I rebooted from USB, everything seemed great, after around 30 min a short Info that process was ended successfully. 

So Restart!!

No System found!! I checked the BIOS, everything ok. I run Diagnostics - Error 0146. Soo I bought NEW Hard drive.  

So with the new drive same FUN. Boot from USB, everything Fine! Restart

NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND.

So I am asking now, What shall I DO? cause it seems that I ended up without computer, with less money I spend on hard drive and No OS, since it made no other copy other than USB. 

Please help!

Dear guys,

After following exactly this great instruction, on how to upgrade your laptop with an mSata SSD, everything worked perfectly fine, until I reached point 8, concerning the formatting/new installation of the OS (Windows 8.1). My Laptop would not accept the way described to format the HDD of the device, but even after trying to install the OS with only the HDD inside the laptop, it did not work, showing instead an error message on a sky-blue ground, which leads after some seconds to two options: laptop repair or shutdown.

Please be aware, that with only the new SSD inside the laptop, the device works fine, so the installation of Windows 8.1. on the SSD worked well! Only that I can't find a way through this strange opposition of my laptop, not allowing me to format and boot my HDD, if beeing alone in the laptop or with the new SSD (with the cache-support 32GB-mSATA-SSD it works as usual).

Looking forward for your advice and help! [:D]

I'll keep this brief and to the point. I call dell for a multitude of reasons ranging from buying from dell.com to needing support. I just called about their gift card promotion, called twice and was hung up on! This, unfortunately, is not new but ut is starting to drive me to the brink. Why can't I just call, get help, not be transferred 15 different times only to be hung up on or told they can't help me. Thanks for appreciating my loyalty and money.

I recently purchased the Dell USB-C to VGA/HDMI/USB/Ethernet Adapter (Dell 470-ABQN) to use as a dock with my XPS 15 9550. Unfortunately while using this adapter the fans run at a very high speed, approximately 80%, and are therefore loud and disturbing during meetings and desk work. I have it connected to only an HDMI monitor and a USB mouse receiver. The fans also run constantly when using the built-in USB and HDMI ports, but at a tolerable level. I will have to return this item without a fix, so could someone at Dell please advise if there is a solution or if this is a known issue that will be reviewed? I have updated both the Thunderbolt firmware and software and applied all Windows Updates. Thanks

I recently bought a number (16) of refurbished latitude e6420s for a project for a non-profit.  On a couple of them the dvd drive removal latch is stuck.  I.E. the instruction 

• Press in the optical drive latch until it clicks and ejects.

is impossible to follow.  I'm not sure if the spring behind the latch is broken or something else.  From looking at a machine where the latch works, it appears it pushes a piece of metal that holds the drive into the laptop case out of the way.  The drives are working but one is a DVD-ROM and I want to replace it with a DVD-RW.  Anyone have any ideas how to solve this?  Do I need to take the entire case apart?  Thanks.

I own a Dell laptop 5547, and recently my laptop keeps randomly shutting off. Even when at 80 % battery. Also when I charge my laptop, it keeps randomly stops charging and recharging . It seems to only turn off when laptop is not charging.

Dear all

Some six months back I bought dell Inspiron laptop.  Till yesterday it was working fine.

Yesterday the laptop suddenly shut down automatically while browsing emails.

I thought it was because the battery has dried up.  I plugged in the AC adapter for the

Battery to charge.  I waited  for more than four hours.  When I press the power button

Nothing happens even dell logo is not appearing.

What is the cause and how to repair.

I use a Dell L521X - XPS 15 and have windows 10 installed. The battery life on windows 8 was 3 hours, with a usage of around 13 - 15,000 mWh. For a battery of 60,000 mWh that is pretty decent. 

On windows 10 i get a usage of 20 - 23,000 mWH which is horrendous and a battery life of 2 hours that is a 33% decrease in Battery life. I really cant understand such a bad battery performance and a drastic drop like this. Any suggestions for turning this around ? It will be useful to other people as well facing this problem.

Hi all,

I bought a Dell Precision M4800 few weeks ago and I was trying to run a full diagnostic test. Both Dell System Detect and Support Assist were not installed so when I started the full test the installation procedure for both of them started automatically. Dell System Detect has been installed (although the icon is just a blank folder and not the logo as shown in the installation dialog box and I don't know why) but when I try to install SupportAssist a message appears saying 'Internet connection is required. Check your connection and try again.' I don't understand the reason of it as my connection works perfectly. I tried to restart the procedure several times but I can't get rid of it.

I would really much appreciate your help.

recently I hot-swapped the battery of an e6520 laptop. Since then the battery light has flashed. Is hot-swapping of battery dangerous?

What can you do to help me locate this device?

I know who stole it but I can't prove that the device is mine enough for the police to get a search warrant. It has been shown in a video they posted on facebook, but the police say that it could be anyone's Alienware and doesn't give them enough to get a search warrant. 

What can I do? How can I prove that this is my device?

I do not have the mac address, I do have the service tag.
