Brand new Alienware 17 R3 overheating

0
0
Got a brand new Alienware 17 r3 here with the i7 6820hk that appears to be overheating. When using it, it'll work for maybe 5-10 minutes before locking up, processor gets somewhat north of 78 degrees. Laptop lives on an actual table. I got it stable by turning in performance fan mode in the bios, but that seems a bit hacky. Is this normal behavior, or should I be looking at an exchange?

Inspiron 1525 doesn't start after CPU replace

I have an inspiron 1525 notebook. I replaced the CPU but unfortunatelly the new one was wrong. After that even if I put back the original CPU the notebook doesn't start.

I press the power button. I see the leds light up and moving from left to right and back on the volume and media control touch panel button like Knight Rider. :)
After that the notebook turns off and about 2 secs later turn on again. I see the lights moving like Knight Rider. And that's all. After that I hear that the HDD is working but non of the leds are lighting and screen is blank.

Any idea?

Would it be possible that an incompatible CPU kill the motherboard?

Thank you

Swapping DVD Drive for a SSD & Upgrading RAM

0

I bought Dell Inspiron 15 3521 on Jun 2013. The warranty expired on Aug 2014. The current specs are as under.

- Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
- Intel Core i3 3217U 1.8GHz
 -500GB 5400RPM HDD + 4GB DDR3 RAM
- 1GB Intel HD 4000 + 1GB AMD 7670M (Switchable)

I am planning to replace the DVD Drive & replace it by a 64/128GB SSD & upgrade my existing 4GB module to 2x4GB = 8GB. I dont use DVD Drive at all. The laptop is mostly used for coding purposes, for emulating virtual machines, dual booting Windows & Linux Distros.

My Aim :
1) Install SSD in place of DVD Drive for primary partiton : For Operating System & Important Programs
2) Retain existing HDD for secondary partition : Storing Data & Secondary Programs

My questions are :
1) Is it possible to swap DVD Drive for a SSD?
2) Will I gain massive performance increase after upgrading to SSD given that the laptop is used only for coding, for emulating VMs, dual booting Win+Linux.
3) Will 64GB SSD suffice for my usage ?

Bad Company - Adapter/Charger

I bought a Dell Latitude E6420 laptop. I was quit happy. Untill I plugged in the charger.

I have Dell WK890 charger, 90W, 1.5A, 100-240v. I am from Israel and it should work for me.

But when I plug the charger, the LED on the cord is lighting blue, which indicates it works.

I realized after 3-10 minutes, EVERY TIME, the LED goes off and the charger won't light my laptop.

This happens EVEN IF THE CHARGER IS NOT INSERTED INTO THE LAPTOP.

I tried using diffirent methods, replacing battery, uninstalling and installing drivers, I was looking for a solution for almost 5 hours and NOTHING AT ALL works.

Dell XPS 13 core i3 overheating

Hi...

I've just bought Laptop Dell XPS 13 Core i3,...after 2 days I used my laptop...the keyboard was getting hot.

I call support center and told me to upgrade my BIOS from BIOS 4 to BIOS 6.

I used my laptop all day..so I must plug in the charger and keep working. But the keyboard is getting hot.

But when I unplug the charger...the temperature colds down slowly.

Is it normal? Because I have another type of Dell....it's ok when plug the charger and keep working.

What should I do?

And...should I upgrade to BIOS 8? what about windows 10? Can this Laptop compatile with windows 10?

Thanks.

Latitude E5550 - BIOS Upgrade Failing

I have just received a Latitude 15 5000 Series (E5550) with BIOS A07 installed. Looking through the drivers and software section for the device on the Dell webpage indicates that an update to the A10 BIOS was released on 30-NOV-2015. The changelog indicates that it resolves a specific issue that I am encountering. However, on download and install of the BIOS it fails with an error stating: "Cannot update a Latitude E5550 with a BIOS for a Latitude 5550". I have re-downloaded the update multiple times to verify that the download isn't corrupt. As well, I contacted Dell support via chat and he indicated that it was due to my OS being unsupported for the installer (Windows 10 Enterprise). Since the machine didn't have any use, I reinstalled Windows 10 Pro (knowing it wouldn't fix the issue) and retried the update. Failed again with the same error.

Curious if anyone else has encountered this and if they have been able to relay this information to someone at Dell who understands.

Anyone know where to get a XDYGX connector?

I've had an order "in production" for a month now for a ssd cable for my XPS 15.   Is there any reseller that might have these?   I can't get any answer out of dell on what the delay is.

Dell 7447 turns off when woken from sleep

So ever since I got my Dell 7447 it's had this issue. It's running WIndows 10, and it goes to sleep fine, but when I try wake it from sleep, it starts to wake, then makes a noise as if it's been hard shut down. Then you turn it on and WIndows says you didn't shutdown properly.

This is very annoying, as it wastes so much time and means I can't put the thing to sleep.

new computer had to reset need help

I have a new Inspiron 13 700 series and I am desperate need for help,I am not able to get any support from Dell, scheduled a support call for today, receive call then hang up. I had to reset my computer because could not receive support from Dell, on how to fix my computer after I did a restore session, and my laptop would not work properly after that.  So that left me with the only option to reset my computer however I am now missing some of the soft wear, particular my one year Microsoft office edition, trying to install but says it does not recognize my account, which is my computer sign in.  I am so frustrated and mega disappointed by Dell

I know this lengthy and I don't have a specific problem, however could anyone  guide me in the right direction as to  where I could receive some proper help!!!

Much appreciated

6430u, Win10-Pro & Fingerprint reader and trackpad scrolling

I tried updating my 6430u from Win7Pro to Win10Pro and while it went well except for a couple of glitches. The fingerprint reader would not initialize in Win10Pro when it works just fine in Win7Pro and the Trackpad would not scroll by moving my finger down the right side of the trackpad in Win10Pro while it works fine in Win7Pro.

Anyone have solutions to these problems? Point me to a post or article on how to get these to work? I did a Dell auto-detection for drivers after the upgrade of the OS and nothing showed as needing updating.

thanks for any help.

New Dell XPS 15 (skylake) takes forever to shutdown /reboot

Hello,

I have a new i7 XPS 15 9550.   For some reason if you click on shutdown or reboot - it will exit windows quickly HOWEVER it then stays on a black screen for about a minute.   The power light is still on on the button.    If I click reboot - same thing - it takes over a minute to reboot as it goes into some long shutdown process before it actually tries to reboot.

Hello,

My dell xps13 developer edition doesn't boot anymore.
I changed a little the partitions. My boot partition use to be sda3, I changed it to be a logicial partition (instead of primary), thus it became sda5. Now, my computer doesn't boot anymore.

I am a little lost on the next step to make it boot ( probably changing something in the mbr ) ??

New Computer (Dell Inspirion IN00791030A-1) Incredibly Slow

I bought recently (less than 10 days ago) a new Dell Inspirion IN00791030A-1 Laptop, and it has been anything but user friendly since getting it. It had horrible resolution issues that made it almost impossible to see anything, as well as tinny/low quality audio with tons of stuttering and lag issues.

Now, I've managed to fix most of these issues (that shouldn't have been there), aside from the lag issues.

It's initially very fast in restarting/shutting down, but slows to a crawl the second I try doing anything with it. It has no viruses, all bloatware has been removed, and yet it still occasionally slows to the point where my text lags upon being typed. It's much slower than my 2-year-old $400 HP computer, which is saying a lot.

Right now, I am just running Google Chrome (only add-ons are Adblock), Steam (no downloads), Skype (no call), and iTunes (no music playing). All perimeters on task manager are normal/low impact, yet the text occasionally lags and opening new tabs/pages on chrome has outrageous load times (internet is NOT slow).

It gets worse if I begin to do anything. I often stream movies using Rabb.it with my friends, and if I'm in a Rabb.it stream while also in a skype call (no video call, just skype+rabb.it), it will slow to the point that the audio (both on the call and the video) stutters, and the video will occasionally freeze.

If I initiate a download on Steam, it also slows to such an extent that I can't even surf the web. I've not tried to play a game on it, but god only knows what that would do.

Any tips?

Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2 in 1 rubber adhesive suggestions

0

Hey everyone! I'm new to the Dell support community; this is my first laptop and I love it:

I've been using the laptop for college, and I usually just put my laptop right on the desks. Lately, I've noticed that one of the bottom rubber "feet" has been sliding away from its usual spot and has left things messy because of all the glue; any suggestions on how to get it to stay? Are there any safe adhesives for laptops? I contacted Premium Support and they didn't have any replacements for the rubber (and I didn't want to get a replacement for the whole bottom half of the computer!)

Thanks for any help!

Is the advertised processor speed always a lot higher than the actual/max (2.50Ghz vs 3.10GHz)?

0

I'm a complete tech philistine, so please forgive if this question is as dumb as a sack of hair....

Just curious because I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series laptop that was advertised as having 6th generation Intel i7-6500U processor (4M cache, up to 3.10GHz) yet when I look at the system information it says Intel (R) Core (TM) i7-6500U CPU @ 2.50GHz

Is this one of those things like broadband speeds (you never get quite the speed that the supplier says you might) or like when a hard drive says it has 1TB space but there is really only 900GB of usable space?

Just seems like quite a difference between 2.50 and 3.10GHz (I could've paid £100 less to get a 2.50GHz processor)

Just want to check for my own peace of mind, Thanks
