I have a dell laptop (Vostro 1440) for 4-5 years.
My problem is that I have Disabled booting from USB Ports and CD/DVD Roms, then locked the bios setting with a password about one year ago.
"And I forgot the password"
Where can I get the master key or master code for my laptop.
Please help.......
Hi, pretty sure my ATI Radeon 4670 mobility card has died somewhat in the last few days (random lines across screen - like ghosted image, only boots in safe mode, BSOD due to atikmdag.sys)
Googling makes it sound like card needs replacing but is integral to mobo so need a new board.
Wondering if anyone has any ideas on replacing either card or motherboard or where to source them from.
Running the i7 chipset on win7 pro x64.
Other forum posts seem to suggest Y507R is the mobo needed as it supports the i7 socket.
Any advice or help available as I would like to rescue this one (paid the extras for the full LED display, slot load blu-ray rewriter etc...) rather than it end up as a door stop?

n5040 won't shut completely off. Did a clean install of Windows 7 from a DVD after replacing a failed hard drive and haven't been able to get it to shut off since without holding down the power button? It goes through the shut down procedure and the display goes blank, but it just sits there with the power on light on and the CPU fan still running. I even left it like this over night on battery but it ran out of battery some time during the night.
I upgraded to Windows 10 thinking that might fix it, but it didn't. It still won't power completely off without holding down the power button.
No help with google search so I came here.

I'm curious if I can add in 2 16GB SODIMM DDR3 ram chips into the XPS 15 9530 or if the BIOS or motherboard has some limitation to 16 gigs of ram?
Also wondering where the 32GB ram options are for the XPS 15 and Precision 5510. And WiGig, what happened to WiGig wireless cards?
Has anyone found a way in Windows 10 to get to the native screen resolution for the M65:

I ignored the incompatibility warning and installed the Windows 10 upgrade from Windows 8.1 on my Dell Precision M65 notebook computer. Windows 10 runs great on it, except that the generic Microsoft video driver does not offer a choice of the native resolution for the M65 screen. Dell and NVidia say they do not plan to develop compatible drivers for the Quadro FX 350M card in the M65.

We buy a lot of our office computers here, but not worth it if you can't get help. That is money right there all the wasted time.
You can't even email unless you have all of the information and that's what I needed so I couldn't even email! Ironic!!!
Bad, Bad, Bad and I know I will not buy anymore Dell for myself and hopefully can stop the company as well for our new move next year and new computers will let know this awful situation. They take the money and then shut the door.

I have a 14" Dell Inspiron 5447 with Windows 10 version 1511. Whenever I close the lid of the computer and put it to sleep, Windows makes a sound. When I wake up the computer I see that the sound is Windows notifying me that the touch pad has been disabled. I've disable the touchpad notifications in Windows 10 notification settings and that does not always "stick". How can I prevent this notification from happening?
Another problem with the touchpad driver is that after I wake up the computer pressing a key on the keyboard the login screen does not come up. I have to press a touchpad button and then type in my password. This was intermittent with the original version of Windows 10 but now is consistently broken with Windows 10 version 1511.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Last Friday I took delivery of a Latitude 3150 laptop running Windows 7. I have a problem with the keyboard.
Most of the time, when I press the 'Q' key, nothing is displayed on the screen.
On the other hand, if I press one of the other keys near to Q on the left hand side of the keyboard (eg 1,2,tab, w, caps lock, a, s, shift, \, z, x), the keyboard will display that key, followed by dozens of Qs, as if I am holding down the Q key (even though I haven't touched the Q key).
At other times, I can produce a Q on the screen just by very lightly touching the Q key. If I touch other keys this lightly, nothing is displayed.
Should I assume that this is a physical problem with the keyboard? I hate to think how many hours I spent transferring files onto this laptop, so it would be great to find a solution which didn't involve having to get a replacement laptop.

I'm wanting to get a better processor because my current processor is awful its and AMD A6-6310 quad core and it runs a 1.8ghz im just looking to upgrade to probably another AMD that's at maybe 3.0ghz. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 15 I also have AMD Radeon R4 graphics, And help is appreciated.
When I got the Inspiron 1564 a few years ago, I made, as suggested the System Repair Disc (Windows 7 64 bit).
I need to do a factory restart of the system...no major problems, but most things are on the C:\ ...which is quite small and the D:\ has next to nothing and is quite large. So, reinstalling everything so that all programs are put on the D:\ makes more sense to me.
I have gone into the WRE and am looking at the system Recovery Options. My options are:
1) Startup Repair;
2) system Restore;
3) System Image Recovery;
4) Windows Memory Diagnostic;
5) Command prompt; and
6) Dell Factory Image Restore.
Which do I use?
What is the difference between System Image Recovery and Dell Factory Image Restore?
Why do I have a System Repair disc? What does it do?

I recently purchased a brand new Dell XPS13 9350. Since the first day there has been an excessively loud high pitched whir that persists for a long time, even with light usage. It is so loud that is extremely distracting and my ears ache after a while.
I have tried calling support and it was clear they did not have a good understanding of the problem. After having them take me through a few system recoveries (on a brand new system, mind you) I gave up trying to to fix this through technical support.
I have updated my BIOS and drivers. Specs: Intel i5 Skylake, 8GB RAM, Windows 10 Home 64 Bit.
Any advice on how to fix this? It's extremely disappointing to have such a problem on a brand new computer.

Hello, Everyone. Just took delivery yesterday of a 7710 mobile workstation. Have some problems with it. (Won't run sfc /scannow, hangs often when I click on a file). I'm thinking the easiest solution might be to run a Windows 7 repair, but I have no reinstallation disk. Is it possible to get a key and download an image?

Hello guys got a problem with my laptop!!!
Even though i set the sleep time on the screen for 5 min on battery and 10 min when plugged in, the screen just switch off after 1 min or so... That's very annoying.
I have now been without my laptop for 10 WEEKS !
DELL lost it and have failed to provide a replacement despite endless emails and phone calls.
Can somebody PLEASEintervene from the UK and resolve this.
