I've been the owner of the dell M6800 for one year now. One year of troubles crashes and problems. The problems come from the dedicated AMD M6100 FirePro graphic card.
On the first day I received my laptop with Windows 8.1, I installed my usual CAD software and it had crashed. “The graphic driver stopped responding and was recovered”. After a week the support it turned out that turning the switchable graphics off was the only solution.
How is it possible that on a computer like that, dedicated to professionals, very expensive... crashes on day 1?
How is it possible that the only fix is removing capabilities that are advertised by dell and payed (a lot) by the buyer?
How can such a PC still be sold by dell (many years later), without any fix?
But until now everything was ok. Disabling the graphic card turn out to work just fine for me. Until I decided to switch to windows 10. The problems are back, and they are worse: they are also present with switchable graphics disabled.
When I start my computer the screen is corrupted and I have to go to sleep mode and start again. But even then I still have problems with some software and I get the message: “The graphic driver stopped responding and was recovered”.
I was reserved about the update to windows 10 however on the dell website there is a list of computers tested by dell with windows 10 and they say my computer has been tested:

And now I like it quite well, and I use the developer’s options for my work (building windows 10 universal apps with visual studio): I don’t want to go back to windows 8!
I've been in contact with the support for over 1 month now:
1 they are unable to find a solution
2 they made me try all the drivers they could find: none turned out to be correct
3 they will never admit that the product has a default and always reject the fault on me
4 they say they cannot support my system because I changed the operating system
5 they make me wait one week between each time I send a mail and I have to remind them or I would never have any news
How is it possible for an enterprise grade workstation that 4 months after the debut of windows 10 no dedicated driver is available?
How is it possible that people paying that much for a laptop are treated like that?
When it comes to selling and making money dell is all in with windows 10, but when it comes to supporting pro users, nobody’s here to help.
Furthermore, I’m sure I’m not the only one in this situation here are some other posts about the subject:
But that’s not all, I’ve also have BSOD when I run torrent based application with error PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. A lot of people on the web report that this is due to network driver issue.
Finlay my 4 core 8 thread i7-4700MQ, is now only recognized as a dual core processor. This is maybe due to the intervention of a technician. He changed my mother board and my graphic card. Other than this new problem, no change with graphic bugs.
If you are interesting in buying a dell workstation, my advice to you, don’t! You won’t get what you pay for!
Now if someone has a solution, I would be glad to hear it!
If you have the same problem, please comment this post, maybe when can make dell do something.
